lmao we found hairspray in the cabin.... but you know what? we were responsible enough to have a bucket of water nearby and only aim at non flammable surfaces
What makes this even more sad is one of the main things taught in the Boy Scouts is “leave no trace” and one of the main points of the scout law is Obedient
ORORORORO!!! I spend half of my day sleeping! ORORORO!!! Then I sometimes get up and tell you that I am a famous content creatorORORORORO!!! Please don't sleep while driving, dear jay

1990s We had to cut sod and dirt and build fires in pits, then replace the sod to cover up sign of our fire. Nowadays This guy just destroys everything, teaching kids to just wreck state park rock formations
@@catharticc bro what are you on. First off that isn't what the commentor said, don't put words in their mouth. Secondly, with a title like "The Boy Scout Troop From Hell" you'd expect something absolutely horrid to earn that title. My kid brother comes and farts in my room and walks away, I don't call him "The brother from the sixth layer of the inferno"
I was in boy scouts from 10 to 18 and I can tell you - if any scout master caught me even throwing a branch into a lake we'd get a strong talking to. This story always blows my mind.
Dude, this is an exception to that rule, this rock formation is clearly dangerous and could have killed. It may be an unpopular opinion, but these men did nothing wrong since they were trying to protect people. When I was in Boy Scouts, my troop leaders would frequently move logs out of the way of hiking trails to make them more accessible to people. How is this any different?
Im particularly pissed about dinosaur print fossils being destroyed. Its not like they are making any more of those. I have a feeling that their reason would make me even angrier.
Geologists : *sob as they try to glue the rock back in place* Jokes aside. I can't stand people destroying natural and cultural wonders. Its so frustrating. We will never get it back!

Bro, I used to be in the BSA. Oh the reasons I quit. - Potsmokers in the Order of the Arrow - Everyone in my troop generally being assholes and because their parents were leaders, nothing was done - Getting kicked out of camp for a misunderstanding - Genuine fights that were chalked up to messing around The list goes on
Yeah, Unfortunatly I was in a troop in the Triangle region of NC that was EXACTLY like that. Fortunately I moved to a different troop in a small town that was waaaay better, and more like how Boy Scouts was intended to be
@@smhgaming3259 At the time I quit it wasn't legalized anywhere in the states dumbass, even to this day it isn't legal in my state. I ain't trying to get in trouble with the law.
Man, I quit because I was tired of the sausage fest. Tired of hanging around dudes. My grandmother (who got me into BSA. From cub to life. Never got to go white water river rafting though.) could not understand why I was tired of it. Until I told her that "there was not enough vagina". Haha good times.
I’m an Eagle Scout and have aged out of the BSA for a few years now. I’m sorry this was a bad experience for you. In Boy Scouts, you need to find the right troop (great guys AND great adults. One won’t cut it). I was fortunate to find that troop during my time, but I understand that there are plenty of troops out there that aren’t perfect like the one I was in. Your troop sounded awful. Why was it you were kicked out of summer camp?
I remember hearing about this shortly after leaving Boy Scouts. I chose to go with CAP (Civil Air Patrol) afterwords, which was arguably one of my better decisions
In 1997 I joined the army right after scouts….not the best decision, lol. Almost a months away from the end of my 4 enlistment, I got locked in for 5 more years and sent to Afghanistan and then Iraq.
As an Eagle Scout, i'm ashamed of what scouts has become, but I'll never forget all the wonderful memories I've had with my fellow scouts and leaders. Spending the night and playing hide and seek on a batttleship was the true highlight of it all.
I think the phrase "Boy scout troop from hell" might be better served on one of the many accused of or convicted of touching children. but hey, maybe boulder pushing is a lit more serious than fondling children, I'm not an expert on it.
Really sad, because the scouts is a great organization overall, I was in it for several years. Really sucks that a few incidents from the 80’s and 90’s ruined the reputation...
When I was in boy scouts back in the 80's and 90's, we had no issues and we took seriously of "Leave no trace". We always made sure our campsites were cleaned up. We literally would get in a line and walk very slowly looking for ANY litter, even if we didn't put the litter there we still picked it up. We always believed in "Leave it better than we found it"
Right? There’s the boy scout troop where the little boy went missing in the woods and it was a big huge mystery for decades… then it turned out his skull had been passed around and was sitting on the mantle of one of the troop adults until he finally died and his kids told the truth about what happened. That’s what I thought he was going to cover. Also, wholly unrelated, but I’m like number 69 on your comment. Nice.
@@manuelcjr52 yeah but gfm has literally done this title on people before who have actually done horridness crimes I get that it's a national landmark but all they did was pushover a rock
@@manuelcjr52 still such a title makes you think they were torturing their troops or murdered people. Something really horrific just comes to mind when you hear from hell. Not saying what they did was ok but even from a vandalism of historic landmarks perspective this is still tame in comparison to other incidents.
At the very least with the dinosaur footprint story, they were able to recover the pieces. I don't think they're ever been put together, but that important piece of history is at least preserved in *some* way.

I was a boy scout in Brazil during all my childhood, even between other boy scouts organizations the BSA has a bad stereotype attached to them. They've seem to had gone on a tangent from what the original boy scout idea was, I'm not impressed they're struggling
I'm both a believing "Mormon" and a former Boy Scout (though I never particularly liked Scouting.) I don't think the BSA or The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is to blame but rather the ignorant leaders who broke both the law and went against the teachings of the church and BSA. I mainly don't like the bad example they set for the scouts (especially when teenagers already make foolish decisions.)
Ex mo here and I agree. Every youth camp I've been to I was taught to respect nature and clean up before leaving camp. These people were completely out of line.
I mean not really, my friend with some kind of chronic illness can go on some pretty long hikes as long as she has pain killers and can take breaks every ten or si minutes. Not defending anyone just point this out because disabled people get called fakers alot.
@@joelglanton6531 Blind/deaf people can hike but finding work that doesn't require eyes and ears is pretty hard. People with neurological and mental and learning disorders can hike but finding a job where people have the time and patience for them can be difficult. And like I said some people with chronic pain can hike if they take a break every so often, some jobs don't let you take more than a 30 minute lunch break once in 5 hours.
I remember being part of the Boy Scouts One incident I remember fondly was during a camping trip, we decided to have a meal before heading back so our troop used large metal cans and light a fire and cover it so it would act like a mini stovetop. These were used to make grilled cheese sandwiches with hamburger buns. I messed mine up so it was burnt to a crisp, the taste was absolutely horrible and I almost puked. I still think about that sandwich to this day.
As a boy scout i realized he did not follow the out door code As an American, I will do my best to - Be clean in my outdoor manners. Be careful with fire. Be considerate in the outdoors. Be conservation minded.
I was laughing at the entirety of this video, even with the dramatic music playing in the background. "This was contradicted by the footage of him pushing an ancient two-thousand pound rock" LOL "When pressed by a journalist, Taylor responded" ~"You didn't see how hard I pushed"~ *LOL*
It's a fuckin rock that 99% of the world has never seen on person or even probably looked it up. Get over it people. Idk how the social media world has so much time to worry about the dumbest shit. Smh. Plus it's not like the guys did it with bad intentions.
I started to write a comment in defense of these fools, until they said *ABSOLUTELY* when asked if they'd do it again. This shows a lack of remorse for their actions and that type of ignorance is more infuriating then their act of vandalism. 🤡

I'm always entertained by the self righteous indignation of park rangers over stuff like this. That rock was way too easy to push over, and if it could have potentially killed a kid trying to climb it or push it over themselves, it was worth toppling. The rock is not sentient, the rock is not capable of suffering, but people are. If I've learned anything, it's that the internet loves a good witchhunt.
thats so dumb, it was two men literally having to strain themselves super hard to push it over. don't be so dramatic. people are right to upset over needless destruction. its not a "witchhunt" those men were dumb and deserved punishment. sounds like you need some education too.

@@cranklabexplosion-labcentr8245 I'm willing to bet only locals and nature enthusiasts did. Ask a random person in NYC what Monument Valley is and they'll probably assume it's a memorial in DC.
To be perfectly honest, I don't think this is that bad. It came from a place of ignorance rather than malice- and while the monuments could never reform- there are HUNDREDS of monuments that aren't a whole lot different around it, maybe even thousands. The more frustrating thing in the story was honestly the disability claim. I guess I just don't really think this warrants a 10 minute video out of the hundreds of crimes which occur every week.
Absolutely correct, I'm personally not mad about the rock being pushed, at least it was by an adult that made sure nobody could get hurt. For all we know a few kid could have found it and tried kicking the dirt away under it to make it fall, and been crushed.
"boy scout troop from hell" is possibly the most click bait title I've seen in a long time. They did a dumb thing and filmed it. Do the boys looking up to their scout leader deserve to be called "from hell"? GFM so stupid.
As an Eagle Scout I am disappointed in the actions they took and agree that they should have faced more consequences. However I am deeply saddened by the decline of the BSA
If my scout master caught us doing something like this he would have us hoist that Boulder back were we found it, then demoted and forced to go through everything all over again. He was so determined on the leave no trace policy that he had us pick up litter we found while camping or hiking. And to this day I pick up litter I find when I’m walking.
I'll be honest, I don't want to see this guy's life ruined over this. I think his charge was fair. He did not deserve jail time. He has a family to take care of. The state of a boulder is not more important than a human life. Even if it's much older than us, the only ones who care about it are other people.
I’m an Eagle Scout, from Ohio though lol. Honestly it is sad to see how far the BSA has fallen. I got out around 2009-2010. It really tanked shortly after.
I was a Boy Scout from Ohio too, never got my eagle I left before I could do my last requirement. I still try to live to scout standards and take my scout masters lessons to heart.
I think they shouldn’t be arrested at all. It wasn’t really them trying to vandalize anything. It was just them being naive (and slightly dumb tbh). The whole disability problem is separate, I think people just hated these ppl and blamed them more than they should because of this aspect
This might be a hot take but… WHO CARES?!? Dude was out hiking with his troop and yea he fucked up but dayum its just a rock and the entire internet goes crazy. Yes they are in the wrong but GFM is making this seem like a murder. Sensitive society.
@@mattwolf7698 well i mean more importantly it’s not a tree. I say this is a sensitive society because it is. this is something that maybe, MAYBE, should be a local news story at most, yet the internet and people like him are making this seem like they murdered someone. I’ve never understood how a few bad apples gives a bad name to an entire organization. Our local troop & pack do amazing things in our community it’s still ab overall good program when you get into a good group.
I thought that they were going to talk about the guy that South Park portrayed. The guys in the thumbnail look like the scout leader from that episode.
I mean, if the rock was actually gonna fall on someone, i could understand why they did it, i mean, who wouldnt want to save a child who could be cryshed by a giant rock?, however since this was faked, its a blasphemy.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but why are animals and nature allowed to change and leave their marks on the world around them. Even our ancestors, but whenever modern humans do anything to what people consider a "natural wonder" people freak out.
Art, I just want to commend you for your quality work. I've been watching this channel for several years and look forward to seeing more. Oh and you need to get on In The Field again since your video got taken down.
I’m not saying what they did wasn’t wrong, but people really sitting there wanting them crucified over a rock. And by all means, tell me the importance and love you have for the rock formation you probably had no idea about until this story came out.
I’m against the destruction of natural landmarks, but you’re right. People got way too bent out of shape over this. The people should have been satisfied that these clowns not only embarrassed themselves, but got into trouble with the law at all. The punishment needs to fit the crime, and to the stupid people, this is worse than rape, because the original 5 year sentence they demanded is far longer than any rapist gets.
Goblin Valley was used as an alien planet in the movie "Galaxy Quest" It's where Tim Allen get his ass kicked by a rock beast named Grishnak. Shame to see it defaced.
It definitely came from a place of ignorance. Legally, I think they got the appropriate charges. But, all the hate mob and shit, I can't really many common people deserve that kind of shit because I don't believe the man's actions came from a place of malicious intent.
Bullshit! He committed an act of vandalism & knew what he was doing and worst of all, he was proud of it! So much so that he admitted that if he had the chance, he'd do it again.
I cannot imagine how my dad would’ve reacted had he found out the boys in his troop had done this. He would have been so incredibly livid. This is ridiculous and I can’t believe that they just forgot everything about what it means to be a Boy Scout. I know the scouts aren’t perfect and there are some bad seeds at the top, some history, but there are just as many Boy Scout troops out there who are actually doing good. And this makes me mad, and I am just a scout big sister.
Its a fucking rock get over it. No one would even notice if they hadnt posted the vid. Its not the pieta. Im more concerned he falsely sued someone and claimed he was disabled.
I like how upset people get over a damn rock. Yes it's a natural wonder blah blah blah. Literally surrounded by hundreds more of these "unique wonders." But someone buys ancient land to build a Walmart nobody blinks an eye. The internet was outraged because they were told they should be.
With the boulder story I’m gonna be honest. I don’t blame them. Though it’s an old rock, it was a death trap. They could’ve gotten away with it if they just didn’t record.
It's kind of supposed to be a place where children can be crushed by giant rocks, just like the ocean is supposed to be a place where children can be drowned or eaten by sea creatures. It's not the place's fault that humans are easy to kill, and these places are explicitly NOT for human habitation, so trying to make them more safe for humans defeats the point of visiting these human-free areas, you go there to see an environment untainted by human need, so if the human need to not be squashed by boulders results in people destroying goblins, tainting the area, then that's no good, the goblins are supposed to be looked at, not made safe.
@@crazybobert5243 I just don't want people dicking around with deadly stuff as if it's their job to make it not deadly. They're big rocks on small pedestals, it's an inherently not super safe place compared to places where the rocks are directly on the ground. However, it's also pretty neat to look at, since it's a rare phenomenon, so don't go messing with them, it's both dangerous and disrespectful to future people who might get to see this cool geology. Personally I don't care about geology beyond the cool worm fossils, but I'd be pretty pissed if someone destroyed a bunch of those, so I can understand why others are concerned with dinosaur footprints and goblin stones, even if those aren't nearly as cool as worms.
Am I the only one who thinks this whole controversy is stupid? "OH MY GOD! THEY MOVED A ROCK! WHERE ARE WE EVER GOING TO FIND ANOTHER ROCK!? OH, THE HUMANITY!"
It was a several million year old irreplaceable geological marvel. It's the same thing as punching a hole through a Van Gogh painting, doesn't matter if it wasn't made by human hands, it's art made by nature itself.
the formations are cool and all, but people are some serious bootlickers if they think someone should be jailed for the nonviolent crime of knocking a rock over, even a fine is lame as hell since im sure most if not all of that money wont even be spent on the park
After reading this controversy about the Boy Scouts I think this is the first and only time Ive ever thought "thank God they only ruined a natural landmark instead of the usual sexual assault of a minor."
