“He isn’t called Butcher because of how many people he’s killed. He’s called Butcher because of how many people died to make him who he is. He’s a more ruthless monster than you can ever know. Because he has nothing left to lose and doesn’t fear anyone. Not even the gods among men. He’s the product of a system which shattered his life. He’s the man who managed to break the seven. He’s the man that made normals into the monsters that no country can match. He’s Billy Butcher. And he’s coming for you.”
Replying to a 1 year old comment but yeah, the ''how many people died to make him who he is'' part fits his character perfectly imo. Personally I think that Butcher is the embodiment of the collective rage of all the people who were fallen victim to the traumatizing, mind-bending oppressions of the supes, elites and whatnots. I can heavily relate to his character because he speaks for the oppressed.
Billy is the perfect anti-hero, he's broken, he's ruthless and he doesn't care what happens to him, he's probably the most dangerous character in the show; and in a show with a psychopath like Homelander, that's saying something.
I love his character because it has so much depth he has so much Rage it’s pure hatred and anger for what they did to her and therefore him.......... But deep down.....he is in so much pain......he’s being slowly tortured over and over and over again Not of the body But of the soul......... Because he wants his wife....... but now she doesn’t want him not this monster he’s grown into....... I think his arc is going to be the best on the show........
After the finale of season 2 I can see butcher totally fucking snapping and going down an even darker road as much as I'd love them to go the comic route I care far more about TV butcher than I ever did with comic butcher
@@billyboot6117 dude when butcher grabs the crowbar I thought he was gonna beat Ryan to death with it either way I hope they don't go the comic route now like I said in a previous comment I care far more about TV butcher than comic butcher
@@Johno1992 you beat me to it. I really truly hope they don’t destroy his character at the end like the comic did. The show has such potential to make the ending so much better.
It's insane to me how Karl Urban hasn't got an Emmy for this role. In a world where Homelander exists, Karl Urban's performance as Billy Butcher makes him the scariest character of the show. That takes some fucking talent.
That's hwo his career has been. Always do a great job but someone else steals the spotlight. He made leopard nimpy cry with his portrayal of Dr. McCoy but people only remember 2 actors from the show. Was amazing as eomer but was sidelined for other smaller characters.
I hope that changes for Karl..this is a drama with continuing characters and I think he should be nominated as or win as best actor in a drama. Science fiction needs to be added to drama category because it IS drama.
His performance is soooooo undermined by Homelander. His entire redemption arch and learning to let go of his rage and pain was THE most compelling arch for me this season. Urban as an actor is extremely underrated in this series. That monologue he gives to those collateral damage victims in S1 GAVE ME CHILLS. “Where’s your rage? Where’s your self respect”. You can seriously feel Burcher’s pain and how much he itches to hurt someone he can’t hurt or even touch for that matter. How broken and lost he is deep down inside. But then there’s the duality between him and Homelander. In Season 2 they realize their basically the same and one of the same kin. Billy’s father beat him to make him stronger. John’s “Vogelmbeaum” father figure substitute experimented on him to make him the STRONGEST man in the world. They both just seek the approval of their mother figures. Butcher and Mallory. John and Madalyn. The life they live, their mannerisms, their care free don’t give a shit attitude. Butcher casually calls god a cunt to a Priest while Homelander lets Vought know he can do whatever he wants. Both are ruthless empty sociopaths who don’t care about anyone and just the world/mankind as sacks of meat and don’t care who they hurt as so long as their goals are met. They both suspect a traitor in Hughie/Starlight. They are basically two sides of a coin and THE best actors in the series. They need Emmy’s fast.
Well people always prefer a blockbuster movie over a more subtle piece of art. That piece of art is better, but the majority of people prefer something their minds can easily process. Good vs Bad. And villains always get most of the love because they get to play with a lot of power. Wether it's Joker, Homelander doesn't matter. As a character, Homelander is very one dimensional. A kid that got experimented on and turned full on EVIL. He's not a complex character by any means. Whereas Billy Butcher is a lot more complex of a character and quite layered. He isn't fully evil or fully good. He's in the middle, in that gray area. Probably the only character in the show that sits there. Everyone else is either good or bad. This is why I fuckin hate characters like Hewie. Most people love someone like Hewie for very specific reasons, he's the cliche soap opera type of character. Just nice, too nice. Billy is the realest character in the show. Karl Urban deserves an award for his performance.
@@TK0S3 i agree. Homelander is transparent and his issues are so clear. But butcher is so complicated. U just dont know whats up with him. He shows care but then again act like a jerk. He keep u guessing
Billy Butcher isn’t a good man. But he can be. He took some pretty big steps at the end of Season 2. I hope he doesn’t end the same way his counterpart in the comic ends.
Butcher isn't frank castle. Billy crossed the moral line long time ago. There is lot hints that billy killed innocent people before. Something the punisher would never do.
Garth ennis, the writer of both “punisher kills the marvel universe” and “the boys,” probably just likes the idea of trench coat wearing bad mfs offing supes, as do the lot of us; so u don’t suppose the thematic differences between the two, however minute, rly matters when it comes to this epic edit
It's very difficult to understand the human mind, mostly when it doesn't find peace and needs something to cope with so that they can acquire some sort of meaning for their existence in this meaningless cruel reality
The best superhero show to ever grace on earth. The show is redefining the superhero genre and i think both dc & marvel needs to take notes from this masterpiece.Btw this is the best butcher tribute.
I hate all those superhero movies. Same bullshit just a different suit. Just discovered this show, and I’m hooked. I hardly watch tv, I’m really looking forward to watching the next episode.
Almost everyone thinks their the hero in their own story but the few that have the courage to look in the mirror and see the monster inside them are the ones that can be more than a man more than even a hero they can rise above both and be somthing completely different somthing better
I've read the comics and it's fantastic on its on way but I love how they diverted Billy's character iteration on the show. It has so much more depth compared on the comics. He's not the typical ranging killing machine (and I know that's what he is supposed to be bc it's Billy Butcher) BUT THE SHOW! BILLY IS GOLDEN I'll pick it over the comics any day. I hope the creators won't follow the ending on the comics
I love billy so much. I hate how I relate to him as much as I love how I do…. Never give up… unless you’re facing god himself… you fight… you move on… you get stronger… until….
I never understood the absolute hatred directed his way on the show. Mallory recruited him and the others. Without her, he wouldn’t have even known about Homelander. And in the show, the group didn’t end because of anything he did (like Raynor seemed to hint). It ended because of Lamplighter and Mallory’s grandkids. But everyone seems to point the finger at him…like MM’s wife did. Did I miss something?
Oh wow now that you mentioned it, it makes me wonder as well. Why did everyone want him to fuck off upon meeting him in the 1st season when it was not his fault their last operation went south.
Imagine you heard that Billy will die in season 4... Just imagine... And then... Just cry... For real when Billy dies in season 4 there will be no more reason to stay for me... He is basically the best character in the series... His humor his kinda love for the people...and also the hidden love he can't show...but he's my fav. And he will always be... Like I said when Billy dies nothing will be the same :(
very much doubt that will happen, even though its said that he only has 12 months to live i think he'll survive somehow, maybe by taking compound V for real
William Butcher is the realistic character, that in real life people hate them too for being realistic. And he got balls of steel to tear apart anyone. He's heart didn't skip a beat when he faced Homelander. G.O.A.T Character.
His personality is more like the comics Punisher isn’t that what the creator of the comics went for since he also created a Punisher if not The Punisher. Either way this was an awesome edit great work!!!!!!
If anyone deserves peace its Billy Butcher-he's being tortured over and over by Homelander and the likes of the seven, and all he wants is for them to answer for everything they've done Given that he's now only got months to live I hope he gets the chance to redeem himself before he passes, like Klaus in The Originals
