SUBSCRIBE FOR MORE CELEB INTERVIEWS! Emmy-Winner Jake Hamilton talks with the stars of THE BOYS -- Karl Urban, Antony Starr, Jack Quaid, Erin Moriarty, Karen Fukuhara
People always talk about Anthony Starr being the perfect cast for homelander, and I agree, but honestly this entire show is perfectly cast. Jack Quaid is practically Hughie
@@WalterDaDog99 why bring up the comics under a cast interview of the show, I bet you are one of those people that only heard of the comics after the show came out
You can tell Karl Urban is the veteran here. Keeping to himself, letting the other two take the spotlight. When you play in Lord of the Rings (two movies), a Bourne movie (Bourne Supremacy), portrayed the successful rendition of Judge Dredd and is actually better (IMO) than the Butcher in the comics.... you can have that slight smile on your face and stay relatively quiet, too.
@@Tilly1770 hugely underrated in Outrageous Fortune. Two completely different characters. Brilliant actor. Would love to see him in more mainstream blockbusters
Man's getting old now. His portrayal of Van and Jethro in outrageous fortune is nothing short of phenomenal however. He's one of NZ's finest without doubt.
Karl Urban reminds me so much of Brad Pitt from Inglorious Basterds and Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. He's cool, calm, and has a commanding way of talking.
@@aniquesheikh2355and thats cool, i like homelander as well. But honestly i watch the show because of the butcher. And i belive that bunch of ppl like him more as well.
i'm not sure anyone could replace Homelander as the main villain. I think the show is pretty much over once he's dead, but at the same time, they can't just keep indirectly opposing him forever.
@@adamwieser I agree. You can't *replace* Homelander but Stormfront did an amazing job of stealing the villain spotlight in the second season for a handful of episodes. They could do maybe one season after Homelander's death but it would have to be with someone that's already been established. They could never get away with the network television cliche of introducing a new bad guy and instantly making him the main villain.
I love homelander. I love the capacities of the actor to express so much just by facial moves. Everytime he is in scene I get amused by how he reacts at other people.
@@UnluckyDomino I’m pretty sure Homelander is going to be there until the end, for everything you said. But also bc Eric Kripke knows what he’s doing when it comes to running a show, case in point Supernatural and the first five seasons which were great.
Yeah, that's the main thing with Homelander. I think writers are also aware of it - they just cannot write Homeland off until the very end. He is just too important and the biggest selling point of the show. Any other character can go away, but not Homeland.
@@thebrightestsun4685 I feel like home lander should win it would be a fitting end considering the tone of this show this "bad guys die good guys survive" bs is boring and this isnt an avengers movie
Star and the writers have to be lauded for creating the most heinous fictional character I have ever seen. Homelander causes an actual visceral reaction I have never experienced with any other character. Star’s eyes, facial expressions and vocal inflections put him on a par with any “villain” performance I can think of.
Hmm... I acknowledge its your perspective, and Homelander definitely is a psycho with no redeeming qualities, apart from what he does just to keep his PR going, but honestly I also find the character quite tragic, when taking into account his life experience. I mean, the guy was Made in a petri dish, everyone around him has always treated him like some instrument or a weapon, not a sentient being who has needs and wants, and he was always pressured to live a lie for someone elses gain, while actively ignoring what such treatment might do to someone like Homelander, who already is so different and alienated from everyone around him. Personally, I find someone like Joffrey Lannister so much more morally repulsive, as that brat got basically everything he wanted, and was made to feel special, despite him actually being a cowardly moron, who was incompetent at everything, except for sadism, which was what drove his mojo. Granted, Homelander also has some of the same traits, but I dont think he enjoys hurting others as much as it just relieves the pain he himself has accrued over his own life.
Absolutely agree, I've never wanted to see a villain taken down so badly in fictional media. I wonder if they ever will until the very end, because what would the show be without him?
not gonna lie, I started watching these interviews moments after binging the 3rd season. I instinctively had a visceral reaction watching Antony speak lmaoo
Anthony is a good looking guy, but outside of all the makeup and costume he just looks like a normal guy. He seems like a sweet man, sort of the total opposite of his character. Karl is my favorite. I loved him since Xena: Warrior Princess.
@@minuit6305 I recently watched all Xena episodes on TUBI. You can tell when he played Cupid he had a blast and realized how silly it was. And yes he has almost a Jason Segal or Bruce Campbell sort of unique face. I imagine the moment they called cut he couldn't help but to laugh. Even Butcher I cannot imagine him not finding the accent, dialogue, and silly shirts funny. He just seems like a great sport with it all. Butcher is my favorite character on the show, and Karl is a big part as to why that is the case.
bro, the dude that plays homelander isnt method acting or Stanislavski, he is literally playing himself. Whenever he talks on these interviews im so intimidated
Maybe they can have him have amnesia and be the nicest guy ever. At the end he gets his memory back and is disgusted with himself on his sweet he was 😄
@@neshwhat702 pretty sure it was a joke intended to play on the fact that Karl Urban's attempt at british is hilariously far off and just sounds like aussie/kiwi (from my perspective as an English person, and everyone else I know lol)
I'm really curious who the person is that Antony is referring to. Also, Jack seems so friendly and fun to be around. Kind of like Hughie without the angst.
Idk why it’s probably not but something makes me think it COULD be tom cruise? He’s a huge action star (and I really admire his dedication to his films and he seems like a really nice guy) but a lot of people hate that he’s into Scientology which can be pretty messed up in certain parts from what I know. Not sure what parts tom is involved in but a lot of people disagree with all of it. Again, I’m not sure if he’s ever met tom or whatever but it seems like a good guess. (By the way I’m not in support of Scientology I just like tom cruise 🤣)
A couple of hours ago I was entertaining the possibility that one of these characters might die in a surprising way, and wrote about it in a comment section of a different "The Boys" related video. Then I came across this video, and the moment they were asked whether they would prefer their character make it to the end or die in a surprise twist, I realized that if there is a place to share that perspective, its here, so here we go. Its not something I want to happen, as Starlight has become one of my fave characters in the show, because imo her personality has evolved so well throughout the series, but thats exactly why imo her death would be quite the payoff to her Arc, considering the increasing risks she takes to do what she perceives to be morally right, Especially in "Herogasm''. Also, imagine how that could advance the story for Hughie, who also has had quite the journey over the series, and who Ive empathized with since day one. He claims he is "doing whatever it takes to save Annie", but based on the last conversation between the two, its clear that his motives arent as pure as he might think, which is exposed by him obviously becoming corrupted by the power Temp V affords him - and it Totally makes sense, considering who the guy was at the beginning of the story, and what he has gone through since. Therefore, imagine who Hughie could become after Annies death, and what extremes he would be open for, when taking into account how far he is willing to go already. I mean, the moment in "Herogasm", when Butcher told Hughie to get away before SB blasts Homelander, only for Hughie to get back at him with "No Fucking way!" - I felt that...
If you kill Starlight you have to kill Hughie, too. He'd be useless. There's no way he survives Annie after Robin. His life became "support Annie." He'd curl up in a ball and stay there till Homelander comes and puts him out of his misery.
@@dhpennell3 Well, now, after the last 2 eps of s03 have come out, my theory didnt age well anyway, and honestly I was left quite disappointed, as the potential after "Herogasm" was huge, but now... Also, Hughies character was on a dark path, but he already wasnt so hot about going with the original plan anymore in 3x07, and my original idea stemmed from him possibly going even darker, which imo would have been slightly more interesting than what we got, even if somewhat uncharacteristic. Therefore, the possibility of Annies death might actually push him to go all the way like Butcher, and the conflict Butcher might feel in that case could also be cool. Either way, Im just spitballing, as anytime a series releases a good episode, excitement just inspires creativity, and I wish that what followed 3x06 was more important...
from the trailers and first 3 episodes, it looks like they will find and bring soldier boy to public, so that his popularity increases and home lander goes insane, not to mention he is already boiling with anger from the last season and from what's happening in the first 3 episodes. Then as grace said, its always about supes, one supe gets another, then someone has to get soldier boy since he would have no opposition now, then somebody else, and thats how probably the seasons will go on
Man, I feel totally the opposite of the actors. I think Homelander should stick around because he's such an entertaining threat and he raises the anxiety level in every scene. I would kill off Starlight for the impact of losing someone so nice and sweet.
I wonder if the cast likes Antony Starr. There was another interview where they said he was the most like the character he plays. And Erin Moriarity over here doesn’t seem too thrilled to be sitting next to him. Maybe he takes method acting a little too seriously.
Antony Carr is clearly in character here : "Unkillable? Really?". By the way.... Homelander is totally awesome. He does whatever the sxxt he wants .... because he can. And some of the boys injecting V and becoming super powerful for 24 hours.... and feeling great about it ? That's totally genius.
Yeah she’s had tons of work done. It was distracting when I watched season 3 every time she was on screen. Very uncanny valley. I looked it up and she’s 27!! The plastic surgery has aged her so much.
Antony is perfect for Homelander. He's got that super hero looking face but also a douchey looking face at the same time lol. And can put on that super evil looking face when he wants to. Great actor.
