To be fair, Tek Knight and Ashley thought Hughie was Web Weaver and was there willingly; they thought it was consensual and even had a safe word.

@ericaavery9382

I thought about that initially too. While that fact means it isn't as overtly vicious as it could have been, a good point I read elsewhere is that Web Weaver's job being contingent upon his participation makes it non-consensual anyway. Moreover, confusion is always why you restablish consent and safe word before every BDSM encounter. And at the end of the day, despite that they didn't know who he was, Hughie did not consent, which is the upsetting part for survivors.

That consent issue is a little muddy. Webweaver had been in kinky encounters with Tek Knight before and Tek knew his safe word. The situation became uncomfortable because Hughie was taking Webweaver's place incognito and didn't know the safe word. He had to play along for a while so he wouldn't blow his cover. Hughie overstepped his own comfort zone in the ruse and was ultimately unmasked as a result. The safe word was pretty funny though, considering who Webweaver's Marvel Universe equivalent is.

The answer is No. By the end of the episode Hughie's trauma is addressed seriously. Earlier in the episode, hughie is truly believed to be web weaver, Tek Knight even says "I know this is a little vanilla compared to what your used to". The humor comes from the misunderstanding and the shock of what Tek Knight is into, as opposed to assault in of itself. The situation doesnt get serious until Tek Knight finds out who Hughie is and truly threatens to violate him. Thats when the wrtting makes it no longer funny and actually takes it seriously.

I think the main issue is that people can forgive grotesque stuff, such as the whole dungeon debacle, if the writing is there - and things are handled with respect, and it has some sort of impact on the plot in general. In the case of The Boys S4.. most of the grotesque stuff is just that - grotesque stuff - poorly written, with no impact what so ever.. and no matter how much some chuds might want to drown out the dissent here.. it's just an awfully written season.

They did however within the moment itself there was a lot of comedic moments in there like everything with Ashley and the Zendaya quip. I did see a spoiler regarding Hughie for the next episodes. I know they push the envelope, but I do find it an odd choice to have that happen to the same character twice within two back-to-back episodes. Especially when they treated Starlights situation in season 1 so seriously.

I just don't think it's a great idea for media to keep creating characters that have traumatic situations happen to them. Trauma should not be normalized even if it happens in real life. Continuing to show these situations in media just continues the conversation about things that shouldn't exist anymore. In order to move forward as society we have to take the power away from trauma and not glorify it.

I can’t say for sure when teknight found out web weaver was an imposter. But a huge tell from the beginning is should’ve been the lack of a web hole. So all that bdsm was to torture this imposter.

He told him that everything that they did was vanilla compared to what he’s used too which meant that he thought he was webweaver by then. They also show when tek started using his powers and then began doing to question. Around that time It seemed like he figured it out then.

The whole Tek Knight dungeon scene added nothing to the overall story and was just drawn out way too long. Personally feel this was one of the weakest episodes in 4 seasons of the show. It was so drawn out. If they did 15 or maybe even 10 episodes a season, then maybe you could justify the pace of this episode but to have essentially a gap filler episode filled with the Tek Knight dungeon scenes was a waste of time. If this is the best the can come up with, it's probably good they're stopping at 5 seasons.

Not the best season, but wasn't that line crossed in very first episode with starlight? plus Hughie was told he should sit it out, but he chose to go through with it. People just hop on cancel trains for no reason. "... the truth is the masses are f... stupid" ~ Episode 6

Give me a break. It would be different if he was a verbally “unwilling” participant. Safe word or not, he kept saying he wanted more so how else would they have known it wasn’t webweaver who consented. This is a bit too much.

4:25 This was how I ended up figuring it out too. I had become suspicious in the last few episodes, but this episode I noticed that the scientist Butcher had kidnapped (sorry, I can’t remember his name) would only ever talk to Butcher and never even addressed the fact that Kessler was in the room. That was when I knew the reveal had to be coming.

It's nice that you to avoid giving spoilers like not revealing Kessler, but letting us know you're excited for what is in store with butcher basically tells us that he survives this session. Bit of a slip there.

Maeve doesn't have Compoound V in her blood anymore, Grace. It was all burned out of her by Soldier Boy's blast, and she's no longer a Supe so she wouldn't be vulnerable to the suped up version of the virus.

I don't think the episode crossed the line, mainly because even though Hughie was traumatized, most of it was in his head from Tek Knight preparing to do something that he was prevented from doing. The cake thing was ridiculous, but didn't cross the line. I almost feel worse for what MM had to deal with when he met with Web Weaver.

I think this episode was okay… fun and goofy. The only issue I have is that it was drawn out too long. Tek Knight scene should’ve been quicker and resolved mid episode. I like how they revealed Sage’s weakness to Homelander and solidify Neuman’s importance to Homelander… but they could’ve added more depth to this episode.
