The Boys Season 4 Is Finally Getting Good 

It feels like we're finally getting somewhere from what's felt like a season and a half of, "Homelander stares into the medium distance, ears ringing, face twitching." and "No, Butcher, this is the last time." And where we're going seems genuinely interesting!

homelander's problem is that he desperately wants ryan to save him, but that's completely backwards: it is up to *him* to save ryan; but he's almost certainly not up to the task. a tragedy waiting to happen. in the m/t I really liked the scene in which homelander had ryan make the asshole producer debase himself before the intern he'd been harassing. without saying it, this was homelander's way of saying 'oh, so you want to help people, do you? well sometimes you have to be *cruel* to be kind'... the only way he knows how to give someone a gift.

This episode did get the most laughs out of me so far. I about lost it during the hospital scene when that handsome patient guy was hitting on his nurse by telling her he was a nice guy, only for Hugh to phase through the wall and accidentally rip the guy in half. That and when Stan Edgar corrected Frenchie on the manner in which they would poison the super sheep. It was exactly the type of dark humor I want from this show (albeit a little gross). The problem is this season took five episodes to get there, instead focusing on superfluous filler arcs that no one seems to care about and heavy handed political commentary. The former I can get from old school anime and the latter I can get from just about any major news studio.

Episode 5 is an improvement over the rest of the season, but still down from where I'd like this show to be again. I don't think I got as big of a kick out of it as you did.

When I first saw MM I thought it was either a recast or a new character. Paused the episode on the spot and tried googling why the old actor wasn't in the show.

Season 4 Best Of: Homelander becoming more unhinged, unraveling Btucher: unraveling and becoming darker, a mirrior to Homelander Hughie: Developing, some of his story is kinda dull but not awful MM: Dealing with stress and anxiety, underrated Frenchie and Kimko: lackluster start to their arcs, but Frenchie seems to be undergoing a change, we will see Starlight: her beef with Firecracker is not interesting and the abortion plot device felt a bit contrived, not as invested, but shes still decent. Also Sister Sage is not as smart as she seems. Shes a politically savy grifter and many RU-vid channels can apply the same tactics and some will convince you to follow them for years.... The biggest issue is that we dont have another Solider Boy type or Stormfront. Nuemen is alright as a secondary antongonist, but whats her deal? What is she after? Neumen is also tied into the political aspect and is the weakest link, Whats her plan, is she seeking power to prevent Homelanders rise? Is she in league with Edgar? Is she more or less a stand in for Vought as a villanious faction?

I’m glad that Kripke made the decision for season 5 to be the last one. The show was beginning to overstay its welcome for me.

I was so confused by the thumbnail because "yoked" has two very meanings, one referring to someone being muscular and the other is a description for getting punched in the face. Did Gen Z or Gen Alpha create a new definition for this word like thet did "cap"?

This season has its flaws, but still has had a lot of great bits! Hughie has felt a bit less "victimy", and most of the characters are still engaging. It DOES feel like the ball IS finally rolling. I think I've bedome desensitized to the overt anti-alt-right depictions. I just rolls off me. Maybe because of the show's merits. Regarding your point about there being Superheroes and current events: They seem to represent a mix of Military Industrial Complex/Cult of personality The MCU-ish schedule preview, including poking at DEI "woke" stuff did have me laughing. (Not sure they would have got away with that three/four years ago.)

I didn't find flying sheep funny. I don't know why. The budget allows for some crazy shiz. So flying sheep just didn't jam with me. The endless other ideas or what could've been...

I am positive in real life he has gone through some form of chemotherapy. Recent interview with him and the others he's lost even more weight than in the show and by weight I mean lost a lot of his muscle. He claims that he was eating too many pizzas so had to go on a diet but when you go on a diet you don't try and lose muscle mass as well.

Idk wtf happened to the show, but its main focus isnt about the boys and their fight against homelander anymore. Its about shitting on opposing views whilst also harboring their own twisted views of r@pe like with hughies scene being "hilarious"

I would agree, it needs to take a shit or get off the pot already because it has been spinning its wheels a bit, but I havent hated it like some folks. Its been fine but it has gotten a bit stale since it started and really does need to get at it already.

Y'mean Kimiko, not Kovifeld. The show has gotten so anti-republican that even though I am not american, I am just sick of it and the stupid pointless gore and violence they cram into the show. Like, are we to believe there is a lab full of people who experimented on Homelander and none of those people changed jobs since he grew up, nor were they a least bit concerned he might take revenge after seeing him kill someone in public? And surely they know about all the other murders Vought covered up. And what are they even doing there, when there is now no supes there to experiment on???

Common mate, Starlight's face doesn't even flinch. Well, I hate The Boys series because they did deviate from the comics. Loved the comics, so the series is not on my favorite list, woke or not.

Honestly, after the 3rd episode, I decided to just skip the rest of the season. I'm tired of the gross out stuff like the scene in the sauna. And I stuff like Frechie's romance with a random dude when he murdered his family and after the relationship with Kimiko has been building for 3 seasons, makes no sense whatsoever.

Let me tell you, I´m a right leaning guy, and get where you´re coming from in regards to this series. I read and collected the comics, and was on board for the show from the first season, which I still think was the best (I enjoyed Season 3 also, mainly because of Soldier Boy, which is also a great character). However, I feel the show gradually became too partisan, when it was initially more balanced in its satire. I think it´s perfectly fine to take potshots at both the left and the right´s many flaws, but when it becomes too one sided, it just feels mean-sprited and petty, and that´s how Season 4 felt at first to me. But I do agree with you that episode 5 flipped a switch and set up the rest of the season for an interesting end. We´ll see. Thank you for your honest criticism, and for being a voice of reason in YT space.

Just like the British political system, everything is shifting and challenging the norm, in a good way, after all. Its just a TV series, I'm glad this season has went back to the boys fucked up roots, it's an epitome of showing how people can get offended and pushing the agenda on those such as reviews and they vote negative, because it is something not seen in series since the 90s, back when there was no cancel this and woke shit that. We need more things like the boys in our lives, to show that the world is fucked, and we just gotta deal with it, and if you can't, then tough shit, it's the world your living in.

I watched the first 30 minutes of episode 1. The strawmanning of Rittenhouse and the over the top right wing radio host who I guess was supposed to be Margery Taylor Green stand in. I was done. I’m Canadian and I don’t want to watch a show that is just modern day American politics about the orange man. They seem to earn their 50% rating and US seems to deserve another Trump run because they didn’t learn their lesson the first time.
