Im so glad someone else thought the octopus scene was so isane. Not being able to see her physical made it feel so human and so deeply disturbing that the Deep treats living beings like that.
I feel like there is no more romance shown in hughie and starlights relationship so it feels so stale. Hughie sleeping with the shapeshifter and the abortion doesnt really hit because their relationship is lowkey forgotten about

I really didn't get the impression that Ryan 'turned evil'. He just didn't commit to killing Homelander, but from what we can tell, he also didn't return to the tower. He is probably out there watching everything happen until there is something he has to act on and then will turn on Vought, not because he was asked, but because the line went too far. Yes, he left and killed Grace, but if you were bombarding a kid with the thought that they had to kill their parent they'd lash out too. He doesn't kill anyone else from that point, that's not really 'turning evil', it's hitting a breaking point and lashing out.
I think having 3 deaths on his mind, each one more and more truly his fault, is a danger. Parallels homelander a bit. What you. Do with 8 yo homelander? Burden him with guilt about sending caretakers to heaven or...gloss over. The playthings for our amusement line of thinking becomes a lot more tempting when you sorta got your mum, sorta got the stuntman and your step grandma weighing on your consciousness

I love the Deep like he's one of the most underrated characters cuz honestly when it comes to this series he's the one who has the most arcs think about it no one has had more arcs than the Deep from wanting to be a hero from actually knowing he's a villain to accepting that he's a Villain Like what's he killed his lover he walked straight up to homelander and said I am down for whatever villainous thing you want me to do from self-loathing and low self-worth to going I can get respect through fear
I thought homelanders violence becoming mundane was the whole point? Why would it still be shocking what he does 4 seasons into the show, it's supposed to show his continuing descent into madness where violence is normal asf, if there was new shock value and comedy to the violence it'd take away from his mental instability imo
I never considered Homelander's violence scary or shocking. It's more about.. you never really know when he will do something at this point. He has the same pattern like always - being scared of him means death and not being scared is alive. You can guess what he will do. But you can't be sure. I also feel like people miss the Julius Caeser thing. It is basically foreshadowed that Ryan (Brutus) will kill Homelander. They basically pull up with the Comic way in a less shitty way and I'm all for it.
As far as ATrain, i wanted him to finally say something about the racist things. Like to the person that said it thinking it was okay or trying to offend him. For example, that weird sex guy when he was talking about his family catching black people. lol
I agree, but that wouldn't make much sense with the plot. I mean especially with homelander there, and being the leak, he can't risk making a scene. We obviously see him uncomfortable though at least.

Im going to disagree on the homelamder and gore. Homelander is becoming far more unhinged and dangerous. Nothing is keeping him in check. Like Edgar had said. We're supposed to see that downfall. The first two seasons he wasnt killing as many people as the last two seasons. The gore was increasing overtime.

I wish that they'd done the Ambrosius death slightly differently. I realize that yes, it's possible that Ambrosius could've in fact died that quickly, as octopi need a chance to absorb oxygen from the water before going on land, essentially "holding their breath" when out of the water. But still, nobody should have to Google the intricacies of how octopi survive out of water to be able to have the drama and emotion of her death hit properly. My first reaction when watching the scene was "why did she die so fast? This is the equivalent to when people in movies strangle someone and it somehow only takes like 10 seconds for them to die", and I feel like it was for a lot of other people too. It took me out of the show too much to fully appreciate what a meaningful character moment it was at the time. I wasn't really able to sit with how emotional/important her death actually is, because I was just confused about why this killed her so fast, when it had already been shown that she could survive outside her tank for much longer periods. Then I was just stuck after the episode looking up how long octopi can survive on land, and whether or not her death was even semi-accurate. The average viewer of The Boys, unlike The Deep, is not going to be an expert on how octopi prepare themselves to go on land, and you shouldn't need to be to be able to have how sad the scene is actually hit you. A few, small, changes, could've really improved the scene. I think if they'd had Ambrosius be getting out of breath beforehand while still on his bed, and The Deep saying something like "come out, you can't be out of your tank much longer", and then having them have the argument with her in his arms instead, (she could've been angry that he was carrying her back towards the closet tank in the first place), it would've worked a lot better. Having him never place her in the tank at all, just shattering it and dumping her on the closet floor before shutting the door, would've made the scene hit just as hard, if not harder, because then 3/4 of people wouldn't just be confused as to why she died so fast.
Personally, the whole end of sage in my idea gets really idiotic at the end of the season. When i saw sage predict everything, it wasnt so much of a "Wow! She was a mastermind" but rather more of a "Oh, i guess they just win" at the end of the season, they make the homelander side jist seem way to lopsided IMO.

I don't think it was the weekest, probably season 1 was. Yeah, that headquarters fight was very comic book ameriican firepower, reminded me of the gi Joe comics, it Rocked. And starlight is our only hope more than an Ever!.Starlight forever! Firecracker.really captures the spirit of our Georgia nazi country girls that are Everywhere now down here, not just my congresswoman.
Homelander has become another pawn. Hughie, i see being the ass of more jokes where i believe at this point he shouldve been a much better version of Billy and taking leadership. The nastiness of the show has become juvenile as hell and corny. Especially all the web weaver shit.

This is the fairest review I’ve seen! Completely agree with you on almost everything. I really enjoyed the show, it’s not the best season of The Boys. But I’m still excited to see the next one. Sister Sage’s got to be my fav character to watch.

This season was a filler season. It felt like the boys was losing its touch but you realized it wasn't when you got to the key moments. It's a season that was written for character development of the 7 and the top 4 main characters. MM, frenchie, kimiko already completed their story arc so all of it was just filler.
If MM and Frenchie are going to be captured by the end of the show, why not just leave MM with his family and Frenchie in jail? I suppose we'd lose out on Kimiko's moment, but it still feels like a lot of awkwardness just for a few cool moments. Hughie and Kimiko captured and the rest of the Boys all split up would have still felt appropriately dire, and it would set up Season 5 to have a more varied set of circumstances to "rescue" the Boys from. Also, minor correction: Black Noir II is NOT a shitty actor. He just needs some direction!
Overrated. It's a mess, lots of plot holes, pointless narrative arcs, the only things that kept the boat afloat are the very few steps forward in the main storyline and the overall good acting.
Me personally I wouldn't describe the clone fight as exceptional It was a regular fight and it's also goofy because they kept letting prime duplicate himself when it was clear which one was the original clone maybe they wouldn't know how his powers work but I don't know
i loved this season, i think my only issue is that it struggled using the rule of 3, especially in episode 7. i think the jokes were drawn out a little bit too long (ie: webweaver interrogation, ambrotious’ long death) while harrowing in some cases, i just felt something’s were drawn out to long for me.

Something that’s been on my mind lately is the whole “The Truth About Starlight” thing Firecracker did in episode 4, to bring to light Annie’s past wrongdoings to slander her name, and at the end, the last thing on Annie she had to ruin her reputation was… an abortion. Like, I was so curious as to what Sage had dug up that would tarnish her name forever but when it was revealed that it was an abortion, I felt let down, like that’s it? An abortion? People have those like every day so what if Annie had one. And most people who watched The Boys this far probably won’t blame Annie or hate her for this, unless they’re one of the oblivious watchers that didn’t realize the show was making fun of them this whole time, but I digress. I know that the plan was just to provoke Annie enough by leaking her medical records and revealing her abortion to the public so she would assault Firecracker live on TV and ruin her reputation herself, but I still kinda felt like “…that’s it?” And then I remembered she killed a guy in season 2 when she and butcher tried to get Hughie to a hospital and I was like “…why wasn’t THIS what was dropped in the Firecracker show?” Annie killing an innocent person, a father, and even admitting afterwards that she didn’t feel anything about it and that he was just a guy in their way, would be VERY damning to her public image and shatter this perception she has of herself, or at least everyone says she has of herself, that she is morally superior and better than everyone else. Killing an innocent civilian would DEFINITELY ruined her good name and taken the steam out of the starlighter’s movement, much more than an abortion would’ve, that’s what I believe. And I totally believe Sage could’ve found out about this murder as well. She probably would’ve looked back at Vought’s history and what The Boys have done, learn about the place they were keeping Supes in that Stormfront was running; and connect that with a killing that happens on the road nearby this site. And to keep her for the rest of the show, they could’ve arrested Annie, and then have the CIA or someone pay her bail, and this could be the mistake that follows her for the rest of the show, instead of the shapeshifter and Firecracker trying to make her feel at fault for getting coerced into sucking off the Deep. (Yeah they’re obviously in the wrong and they are the bad guy but idk, the way the shapeshifter brought it up while mocking Annie for feeling morally superior and never at fault for anything made it feel like the show was trying to say she had a choice in that situation and wasn’t being taken advantage of by The Deep because of her naivety and desire to make her mom proud. If it was the murder she did in season 2 it would’ve been a much better scene to me)
First of all, what she did with that guy wasn't really unreasonable. Her boyfriend was dying, time was ticking and she thought that all she has to do to save his LIFE is to push the guy and steal his car. It's just that unlucky for her the guy ended up dying. And I think she said all these stuff to Butcher to see his reaction. Second of all, a lot of weird supes escaped the building, how could they find the proof that it was her? Lastly, Firecracker's leaks weren't supposed to make her look bad to the viewers, only to the conservatives in the show.
Hughie said it best about being squeamish about deaths and now he’s basically desensitized from it. Also Kickass is a 2 hour movie and not a 4 season series give it one season you won’t care about anyone dying there anymore. I get what you mean but the “shock values” that you say have become stale aren’t what the viewers should be completely focused on anymore it’s where the characters and story goes in spite of what happened.
Feel like the point of HL in the bunker was missed. I feel that labels him more of a tragic character, and the scenes weirdly make you feel sympathy for the character. Which is crazy considering how evil and irredeemably he is.

I feel like episode 6 gets a lot of slack, totally agree with the grey areas of the Hughie abuse this season but episode 6 is way better than 5 and 7. The fight scene in 7 was entertaining but it was the first time I felt that during a fight scene in the show nothing would actually come of it. There was no way any of those characters would die so it was just filler.
It has problems. It's still good. It's the weakest of the seasons tho. Clearly they didn't know what to do this season. I feel like it could have ended in 4 seasons tbh maybe a little bit bigger of a final season.
Sister sage was not written well at all she was written very lazily. It takes a smart person to write a smart person and the writers are not smart people.
Slow burn for sure, and I was almost not looking forward to watching after hearing a lot didn't like the season. I think it was pretty good. A lot of good character development. It wasn't the best season, but I still feel it's in good form. The last episode definitely made the build up worth it.
Sister Sage, the smartest person in the world (in her words), was so smart, she realised she needed a weak supe like Firecracker on The Seven. And that was because Firecracker was essential to neutering support for Starlight due to their personal history. So when she recruits Firecracker, she puts her in a room with Kimiko, and expects her to not only survive, but also to be able to kill her, and then come back to be an essential part of 'the plan'? It was so retarded it looked like that joke from Austin Powers that mocked Bond villains for how moronic they are. And the only reason Firecracker survives is because The Boys all just stand back and wait for her to slowly run away. There is a reason everyone is bashing season 4, the writing was utter rubbish. It is almost like the writers intentionally made Sister Sage dumb just to invite criticism so they could accuse the audience of racism and sexism. Either that or the writers haven't got a clue what they are doing.
When I think clever I think some of the shenanigans Gus and Walter in breaking bad got up to. Problem is. That is difficult. I always felt they picked options where they could decide later. Maeve, stormfront n some others could survive or die. Either way. Decide later. To convincingly show sage being intelligent they gotta show long-term planning tho. Instead they pick the cheap out of yeah yeah, all part of her plan! Yes she foretold this n that and that. Blaming starlighters for a few dead homelander fans is not dumb but not that genius either
The boys is kinda mildly overrated and overhyped imo but it's still good enough to be better than most shows we've seen this year, it's like a 7.5/10 good. Imo

I don’t really like Butcher either but I love the Deep as a body builder his arms are crazy and taking him in a comedic direction is great and A train is so great now that BJ scene was hilarious “sexuality is just a spectrum bro” 😂
I'm neutral about Sage, A-Train is my favorite, The Deep is nice to look at, plus he's entertaining. Hughie is the most annoying to me, and his face bugs me. He always looks like he smells something bad.
It’s overrated while at the same time everyone agrees it’s the weakest season. Any criticism that the show rightfully should get always gets dismissed by the same low iq copy and paste retorts. “You just realised the show was making fun of you” “But the finale was good” “Who cares it’s still peak” “It’s a set up season so it doesn’t matter” I despise what gen v did to this fanbase honestly.
i am so sick of people misunderstanding collins role in the story. the relationship between him and frenchie was never supposed to be that deep or mean anything really and in fact, the same can even be said for his character. the point of him is to progress frenchies character arc as, from this point, frenchie while hating himself for his past actions had never faced the real living consequences of them until he met colin, someone whos family he killed. this continued on to him turning himself in and, while i do think we should have seen him in prison some, it showed that, in his mind, the only way to forgive himself is to have a sort of punishment. what frenchie did was fucked and practically unforgivable but when you know his situation and why he did it, it adds a new layer of complexity to it and so does seeing the living consequence of it in collin. he, just like kimiko, is probably never going to forgive himself. and from there i honestly dont know what to say about it 💀. i think in concept and idea its good but the execution was pretty lacking ngl.
My only actual prediction is that Starlight will continue to be a thorn in Homelander's side after Butcher is dead and gone. I thought the whole Colin story ark was about Frenchie wrestling with his conscience over his crimes for Little Nina. The affair never would have happened had Colin not been the sole survivor of one of Frenchie's most "soul-killing" multiple murders.
It depends on how season 5 goes. If season 5 is just balls to the wall all season, then this season being a lot of set up will pay off and make the season great. I still think season 4 is better than season 2 but weaker than 3 and 1

Sister Sage is a well-written character? Ehh, it’s what you get when a mediocre writer attempts to create a clever character. She is kind of enjoyable but..... it's a guilty pleasure of sorts, you need to turn off your brain and to perceive her at superficial level
Overhated imo- don’t get me wrong there’s tons of valid criticism, I have many things I disliked about the season too. I thought the first episodes were lackluster. I liked the last 5 episodes though. The finale was amazing.
It's really interesting the contrast between you saying, "I'm really desensitized to a guy getting his junk lasered off" followed quickly by, "I think they went too far threatening to cut a hole in Hughie, even if it didn't eventuate". people seem to be forgetting that the show is a mockery of generic superhero media. they mix parodies of superheroes with a realistic storyline, and commentate on the insanity of politics and human stupidity. its not meant to make you love it, its meant to make you think critically with a dash of entertainment on the side.

Season 4 was absolutely over hated, but it was also quite overrated as well. The apologetics for a lot of the more lackluster plot points are staggering, but the criticisms are certainly overblown. Long ass comment incoming: The off screen abortion plot felt so shoehorned in, and was pretty much abandoned immediately as soon as starlight playing her part in sages plan came to fruition. Everything after that was just a quick "how dare they. Are you okay, strong woman? You are loved and supported" moment that felt almost devoid of actual complex human emotion, and they moved right along. The frenchie story was set up in a way that suggested it was meant to be a lot more significant than it was, but again... just a quick "we bailed you out of jail because we need you, but we also all love you and don't really care that you legitimately murdered an entire family because we are all bad people on some level" and they all just move on. That's fine for MINOR side stories, but not a plot that shakes a characters entire foundations. Hughie's dad was an enjoyable distraction, but again... they gloss over any human emotion or consequences. Hughie's decision to give his dad V resulted in the gruesome deaths of SEVERAL innocent people that he should have had to answer for, but he doesn't even seem to acknowledge it. Nobody does. I get that they live in a "life is cheap" setting, but come on! NOBODY cared that he accidentally rematerialized inside of a patient? NOBODY cared that he eviscerated a security guard ON PURPOSE?! nope. you still get a lovely "pulling the plug" moment in the same damn hospital. A lot of the criticisms around the series "losing its subtlety" are extremely valid as well, despite being drowned out by people who are missing the point and who write them off as "right wing tears because they figured out they were being made fun of". The show has always poked the right pretty hard, but it was usually clever. More importantly, the jabs at the right were essentially undeniable. Right wingers could watch the show, see where they were the butt of the joke, and (for the most part) could yield and acknowledge that the satire was valid. Homelander being a Trump figure with a god complex was fine. Homelander openly being a raging egomaniac psychopath who publicly belittles his supporters is unsubtle and unentertaining, and making his supporters all mouth breathing idiots themselves is dismissive and lazy. Sister sage was also wasted. the grand plan was convoluted and written so that it "all working out in the end" felt a little hollow and forced. I always rewatch things that have a twist or big reveal to see if I could piece it together myself with some hindsight, and there is not much there to suggest anything was actually set up to end the way it did. There were key moments that drove the plan along, but they did absolutely nothing to address the variables that could not have possibly been predicted by Sage no matter how smart she was. Ultimately Season 4 felt like it was written specifically for progressives to dunk on the right with absolutely zero need for introspection, which I think takes a lot of the substance out of it. If you can get past that and take it for what it is, it was still a hugely entertaining season that had a very interesting overall plot. The acting was superb, and all of the really big moments still hit the bullseye. They really need to go all out on season 5 with the Homelander plot that they have set up. They can't allow any side plots that don't tie in to the main thread in a critical way, and they certainly can't afford any filler or meaningless shock value moments.

I hate Frenchie, one of his first scenes he tells Hughie about this innocent girl he saw and killed. That’s why it was weird to have him obsess over Kumiko and have him as her love interest after he talked about killing a girl. Then Frenchie cheats on Kumiko with some random dude after all those boring scenes between Kumiko and Frenchie.
frenchie didn’t cheat on kimiko when she literally told him to pursue the other guy.. that little relationship was bland and uninspired but frenchie didn’t cheat on kimiko considering they weren’t even a thing before they ended up kissing and then frenchie getting kidnapped
@@JohnTune-u2xYes, and you left out the part where Kimiko also mentioned that “their relationship is going NOWHERE”. She made it seem like he had no chance with her so he continued his relationship with Colin.
