In this video I will be discussing Amazon Prime TV's The boys and its character of homelander played by anthony starr and how he is the best villain on Televison right now!!! twitter: / trodan_ -TroDan #homelander #theboys
Homelander wasn’t abandoned as a child. And he wasn’t injected with compound v. He was created in a lab. He was born with compound v in his system already.
You are completely messing up and oversimplificate insanity and ignore the importance of their powerlevels. Different psychological illnesses or personal disorders create different attributes and behaviours there is not one which is clearly more harmful than another. Stormfront is an extremist but very stable in her behavior and goals which leads to a much more effective procedure of her plans. Homelander is very unstable and more powerful which appears more frightening for healthy minds, because he is not predictable. At the same time he is less effective in planning his actions And additionally messes up his own actions constantly through changing priorities Without his invulnerability he wouldn’t pose a great threat at all or could be very easily countered
Basically stormfront wanted only nazis to rule. But homelander views himself superior over everyone and hates everyone equally. Liberty was a psychotic stable nazi Homelander is a psychotic unstable timebomb.
@@TheSolarium18 Stormfront is a lunatic because she's a literal superhero and shares a sentiment that a certain bloodline should rule the Earth. That entire premise was based around ethno nationalism and some idea that ethnic purity would lead to a powerful nation. This makes absolutely no sense in a world with V. Homelander is not extra strong because of his blond hair and blue eyes obviously.. It's because he was a genetic experiment. That's why Liberty was insane and ridiculous, yet seemingly more 'normal' than HL. At the same time obviously as mentioned HL sees everyone as beneath him so what's worse? Not caring if everyone dies, or not caring if only certain ethnicities die?
*"It's because deep down there's a part of you that is still human. Part of you is. A dirty, shriveled, anemic little part of you that still mules for approval and love and a mommy and a daddy and a boo-hoo-woo. We gotta that part out of you like a cancer, and then? Well then my boy, you'll finally be who you were always meant to be. Pure, clean, like marble."* The season 3 finale just wrapped up and all I gotta say is......GOD DAMN HOMELANDER. This character is up there, in my opinion, with some of the best comic book movie villains like Heath Ledger's Joker and Thanos and a lot of it comes from the writing by Eric Kripke and his team, as well as the truly brilliant performance from Antony Starr. However, this quote has always stick with me as the one that captures who Homelander is at his core: an infant who still seeks the approval of a parental guardian and no matter how invincible he may be, he will never be able to overcome that because it's his heart's true desire. I do think that the final moments of Season 3 teased Homelander finally being who he has yearned to be this entire time: loved and accepted for who is, even if that's a murderous psychopath.
It would be redundant and all you'd see is Homelander. Get someone to imitate him like Zac Efron who needs a much needed rebrand since his Dude-Bro era. The goal is to portray a relatable and supportive Eobard Thawne like in Season 1 who then reveals his true intentions but still is likeable to everyone else but Barry is the only one who knows his true evil. That's the understated level of Passive Aggressive sociopathy I liked in Mean Girls.
@@suzygirl1843 anthony starr is a good actor just watche banshee and zac efron is not a good choice through his career his movies were mediocre and bad but anthony stat who nailed playing an anti hero and a villain cast him as Eobard Thawne imagin him going through time killing Nora Allen imagine killing her with that evil wicked charismatic face of his face i mean if he would do it he would do it in such brutal and aggressive way not just being there and if he has to do that the arc of the first cycle of life cycle flash where his parents were not dead and eobard realizing that no matter what he does barry will always exist it would fit for him , the role fits for him if they cast someone else they should cast someone who is good at villain roles or anyone who can act good and try to change the script a little bit because putting efron as the reverse flash is an insult to the whole reverse flash character
@@maxdam4059 But Zac Efron is more mainstream and 34, while Anthony Starr is tv famous and R rated and 47 years old. Usually tv stars don't crossover to movies. Hollywood casts protagonists in their 30's for longevity. And I think Zac Efron has so much potential, he proved as much leaving and rebranding himself from Disney. He just got caught up in the Dude bro-phase that garnered a lot of attention and money and it halted him. Zac Efron has the potential to be Brad Pitt or Kurt Russell who was also a Disney kid. He's taking way too long to establish an A list persona. He can't be taken seriously as a good guy, let's see him play a different role: Ted Bundy gave him an edge. Robert De Niro thrived off of anti-heroes and villains like Travis Bickle and Max Cady and mafia leaders.
@@maxdam4059 Also, I don't want the same Eobard Thawne. The over the top salivating deranged brute is way too overdone. Maybe make him more relatable and charming and that's what makes him scary like Zac in Neighbours when the nerdy undercover frat turned on Seth Rogen during the hazing. Maybe Eobarde behaves like Homelander when he feels humiliated. Go for understated Ted Bundy vibes where people would defend him if he was on trial. That's why I mentioned Zac Efron. Contrast a very handsome guy who's a villain with the weird Barry Allen. Eobard is his first friend because Barry doesn't have friends. Movies are meant to present teachable moments because they distribute them around the world. TV can go rogue. Plus, you need a star to attract a large female base. Anthony Starr only attracts the bros.
"The Boys" understands a concept that is completely lost to most modern entertainment companies: The villain is as important, if not more important, than the hero.
I’d love to see some examples. Otherwise, this is throwing a blanket statement over things from someone who wants to portray themselves as smarter than they really are. And answer this as…yourself. Not someone who sees this comment, then research’s the “proper” answer as part of the collective echo chamber. Any silence only perpetuates my assumptions as well. I’ll be watching. 😘
What makes Homelander such a great villain to me, is that despite how horrible he is, I don't hate him. I fully understand him, and don't blame him for who he is. I think anyone in that situation would turn out the same way. Homelander is a tragedy of cirucmstance, that never stood a chance.
I don't think so. I think empathy is human nature, we are one of the few animals in the animal kingdom that have it. Back in cave man times, we were the only species to stay behind or go back if one of our own was injured or hurt. The circumstances do matter yes, but not matter your upbringing there should be a voice inside that tells you what you're doing is wrong
@@jairusjackson7799 it's a nice sentiment but in practice all that kind of thinking will do is turn you into a walking mat for other people. Empathy is important to have, but just because we evolved something doesn't mean it is always good or beneficial. By this logic, there should be no punishment for anything because people are bad due to a cycle of trauma. "Hitler may have killed 6 mil, but he was traumatized by the great war so he wasn't necessarily evil". It excuses the actions of any and anyone. Your actions define your character in spite of how much you've been hurt by others. Trauma doesn't define somebody, or excuse their actions
@@needy3535 I'm not saying have empathy for Homelander or people like him. I'm saying in theory Homelander should be able to have empathy, and he does we can see he does for Ryan since Ryan is similar to him and thus he can relate to and sympathize with him
I really hope Homelander makes a friend next season. A real human attachment that gives him the proper care an attention he craves. Seeing him fight himself where he desperately wants to wipe everyone else out and respect him one true friend by not killing everyone they love would be super cool. A great internal conflict that could really get the good guys questioning how they interacted with him in the past.
Homelander is a great villain... but he's not "the" villain of the boys. He's a byproduct of Vaught... Vaught and the system that produced Homelander are the villains, because if it wasnt't Homelander it would be someone else... for example, Soldier Boy who was by design eerily similar.
@@naliesnikas you can get mad that i didn’t mention LOTR but it was so much more of a spoof of norman osborne. the way it was shot, the way the dialog flowed. you can just tell
The biggest shame, is that despite everything, he still desires love and connection. That remaining fragment makes me think, had Vought cared for him, he'd actually be the hero that he initially portrayed.
I can already see the direction they’re taking although I hope it’s not so political as I see it. Homelander killing a person in front of his supporters mixed with his new found son (who will turn against him) will ultimately snap his mentality but instead of being destructive towards everyone he will target specific groups of people or supes who disagree and create some sort of civil war. His supporters will take it upon themselves to enact his justice, etc. seems like that’s the route they’re taking.
@Tyson Allgaier if argue that politics are a primary feature of the show but not the point, it’s a mashup. Politics are a theme, where celebrity megacorps are more present
Before people mention Solider Boy stopping Homelander, the show has already confirmed that Homelander is stronger and we've witnessed it in their fight. SB's chest beam may not even work on HL as HL is a product of some ambiguous genetic experiment. My guess is that it's not going to work on him, or at least, not as effectively as other supes. Season 4 has already been confirmed and if HL dies, so does the show. Y'all think they're going to spend A SEASON just to trying to hold HL down long enough to fire off SB's beam? We should be scared for many characters. Maeve- dead by the end of the show FOR SURE SB: likely to die by HL's hand at some point Starlight:. Same as SB And really, everyone else. The only two people I really see safe from HL are Deep and Edgar, honestly. Lol
@@dragonlordplacidusax9413 Dude, they're so obviously not going the comic route that isn't even funny. We still don't know what Soldier Boy being HL's means just yet. Entirely speculation on your part.
Was homelands really injected with compound V? Ryan was not, but he still got superpowers, while homelander's parents are Soldier boy and 'speculatively' Storm Front
The canon is changing, and they are retconning lots of things. Next thing, you know Soldier Boy was an alien, and Stormfront is from an ancient race of people and is why compound V works. Let's get crazy with it.
What are those scenes of teenage Homelander in the white room? It wasn't in the main series for sure, is it even boys? I'm not sure but it looks like it really could be
He can be killed now. Unless we are willing to accept minor inconsistencies in the writing on Homelander's durability. Hear me out. Maeve made Homelander bleed. TWICE. which is fine. I like Maeve. But now... It is reasonable to assume that Homelander is vulnerable internally (nose and ear drums). Keep in mind that Maeve did not use an insane amount of force that cannot be replicated with special weapons in the CIA and FBI's arsenal. So by this logic, he can be killed or at least fatally wounded with a precise shot inside the nostrils or Ear Canal, with a weapon that can replicate the force generated by Maeve, which again, isn't impossible. This feels a little inconsistent because season 1 stated that no weapon on earth could harm him.
well for one no where have they ever shown us that the government can replicate the power of maeve and i for one very much doubt they can and yea he said no weapon can harm him cause again they probabely cant make a weapon that powerful and even if they can it is also reasonable to assume they havent and then even if they have why would they tell the one person its supposed to be used against about it thus making what he said completely fine no matter what possible way you think about it
She used a regular metal to pierce his ear. How did a regular tool even harm him. It feels as you said the writing is not consistent. Also when when he deals punches there should be shock waves due to the impact but it feels like regular humans fighting here.
i think it depended on the speed and brute force of which the object travelled to his ears and additionally he has hyper regeneration so i don't think a regular shot would do the trick
To be fair, it has stated that Maeve has been training enough to be able to at least land a few good blows on homelander, which was what she also wanted, that and well, she’s pretty much an actual trained combatant, and because of that, it helped her hold off against homelander.
I disagree with the word "perfection" after season 3. Homelander became so well liked that the writers refuse to do anything to him which makes the show stale. I could totally predict that season 3 will be just another season 2 where a new secondary villains shows up and by the end of the season the secondary villain is defeated yet Homlander's status hasn't changed at all. It's like the entire season was completely unnecessary. Every season Homelander fills in the same kind of character. He is there in his position of power at Vought, making threats and butchering some people occasionally, clearly being a huge threat, yet in the end he is never the 'official villain' of the season.
I mean towards the end of season 3 it wasnt as much as they didnt dare kill him, the boys stopped him to save themselves. They provided them a choice. Butcher would rather that Ryan lives then homelander dying. They could have let soldier boy kill all of them including homelander in the tower but they didnt. But i do agree with You that they dont want to kill him off. He is carrying a big part of the show and its working for them
I dont think thats entirely true. Homelander now has Ryan completely backing him (for the most part) which will add a new dynamic. If you ask me 2 was the unecessary one considering Stormfront just dies and doesnt do anything
I’ usually watch the show and think “jesus i could have raised that child to be so much more functioning” and go threw scenarios i could easily give him structure and morals
I think Diabolical kinda confirmed the fact that Stillwell groomed a much younger Homelander, which just adds a whole other dark tone to an already bad relationship.
No I ...disagree It's not his shadow that is homicidal...it's right if he could cut that out ...that part of him that wants to be loved ...he would literally "become what he is supposed to be" Fuck vought...fuck a face a Image ...a name ...fuck you... And he may just Save someone...it's his ego ...if he loved himself a lil bit more true ...and maybe is seeing where this is going.,...if he will live forever ... it'll pass...they've made something they can't control And they made it ...trust them ...love them ...now ... they keep him distracted... He's us ..... Be that ain't him no more ...ya feel me ... You think it's a bad thing but the mirror is right .. Evil is...the want of love ...it's in us .....time ...ain't fast ...we ain't ...the ...culture ...not if we ain't gonna get love clark Kent ...I's a mudperson impression ...I don't think he ever needed us or minded us ...in fact I'm cruel when I want it ...it's rare...he's just like us ...and that's not clear to him ... The mirror is God
And homelander is every yougin ...and we die...so he ... lives ever closer ...does it not hurt ...that ... really...ain't no one ...human ...and gonna make it ..even to the end fuck y'all guidelines RU-vid that we ain't gonna get to Mars ...that this is just ...a child ...that what scares you ...the right beerhall the wrong ppl ...you t hink these fucking troglodytes will ever ...look forward and see you eat the rich i ain't saying that I'm saying ...we die ...fuck redemption how does it feel ...you'll be okay ...Rome can't burn divided...
Homelanders powers came from two super hero’s he didn’t get them from compound v, that’s why he’s the strongest super hero because defendants of super hero’s are stronger then their parents
Homelander is a insufferable parody of actual villians . He gets notoriety only for Garth Enni's childish edgy trash combined with the stupid ideal of attempting to add "realism" to the superhero genre.
@@horatiussonofrome812 he's said shitty things about everyone even when storm front was raving on he just went along never agreeing just waiting for it to end.
HomeLander Remindes me of Biden. Just H.L. can talk. And Vouat reminds me of the Democratic party. It fits perfectly. They never do anything wrong. And have the bought off media cover up their wrong doings.
Sounds like another political that claims to be a genius to hide his insecurities to me. Except Homelander is actually genetically superior and not a nasty fat guy.
@@EntelSidious_gamzeylmz More True to fact! Well here in America. biden is mental case. We all know that. The new Dems are just like Vought. They control the Media. Keep their people safe and above the Law. We know the Media and Hollywood can not be trusted and this is how Vought does it. Using the Media and Hollywood. It basically to a "T" They switch people perception with fake stories. And we the People Suffer for it.
The saddest part, homelander was most likely born a supe, like Ryan or the legends kids in the comics, he may not have had laser eyes and flight but he definitely would've had some sort of power, those years in the lab that turned him into a monster xouldve been avoided
Well but even a normal character with this superpowers is pretty worrying. At least homelanders need for validation and adoration which directly comes from his upbringing held him in place
@@ManofSex69 I didn't really get that part at the end, they saw the papers and said Soldier Boy is Homelander's son. But how, who and when? I just don't get it. Thought Dr. Vogelbaum made him out of a test tube. (If you know the answer from the comics, I beg, pls stfu no spoilers please)
Another potentially symbolic difference is that Homelander wears gloves, here in the West wearing gloves wad seen as a sign someone has something to hide. Whereas Superman has no gloves because he has nothing to hide really.
