You don't often see German flags in Germany. It's more likely for state flags to be flown instead, and the one in that image could well be the Hamburg flag, which is red and white.
@@svenericklemantowitz7233 as far as i’m aware only that one google car (which has a bit of tape on it) has been used for all of the Ghanaian spots, and not in any other country so if you spot the tape, it must only be Ghana
The Argentina round. That’s my family’s neighbourhood of Lanus, one of the shops in the shops in the clip is owned by our neighbours! Properly made my day mate!
Stephan LaFleur I was born in Brazil, we just threw them up but only when they were absolutely unwearable. Mostly from skating and playing football on concrete courts.
Not sure if driving on the left or right? Tip: Windshield wipers on cars most commonly point to the passenger side. Edit: Exceptions: Cars with opposing wiper blades or single wipers (at least the old Merc monoblade point to the driver side)
@turd turdski: You're right, and on single wiper systems the opposite may be true. I was thinking of only the "normal" system because it's most common. I've edited my comment with more careful wording.
There is a list of countries, that driving left, most ex-British colonies. Search the map on WiKi. Tricky one: In Europe there are 2 others in Europe (Malta, Cyprus) beside UK/Ireland: Cyprus/Malta:Of course I chose the wrong one :(
@@edwardeduardus7398 Yeah, obviously. OP is telling us ways to figure out if the place we're in drives on the left, in situations where you can see only parked cars, which is very common.
GeoWizard: Where you click in the country doesn't really matter GeoWizard: We'll never know how close I actually got Also GeoWizard: Continues to zoom in and click on specific cities for no reason
Me, an Argentinian in the Argentina round: It's obviously near Buenos Aires, why would you point that up north?? Me on the others round: * Not even guessing the continent right *
Little tip for germany: You will almost never see a german flag hung up. It‘s usually flags of football clubs or flags of people‘s original heritage. You get quite a few turkish, albanian or polish flags! Well germany is usually easy anyways but just fyi :)
I feel like I know Singapore like the back of my hand when I went on a quest to get a perfect score there. I recognized it immediately even without the Woodlands clue.
Singapore has a distictive font for the road signs, those zebra coloured kerbs , the yellow lines along the side of the road and shedloads of concrete pedestrian overpasses. Australia doesn't have any of those if people are trying to pick between aus and singapore.
Genuinely can’t remember the last time I watched a video that wasn’t yours. Been a big fan for a few years now but lately I’ve got back into binging all your videos. Top job. You may have already done this/ had it requested loads but fancy doing a video where it’s like tips and tricks for other players? For example a whole video about clues to look for to help. Eg, roof rack + tape = Ghana. Houses that are blurred out = Germany. Something like that?
@@mayshack just speculation really, seems unlikely, but if he's able to say yes 100% this is Ghana judging by the tape, then surely that suggests that there's only 1 car for Ghana? Who knows. We could find out ourselves by just doing street view on Google Maps in Ghana and checking for tape in various locations lol.
Hi from Peru, you were like 10 or 15 kilometers away on the one in Chinatown, whenever you see a a lot of tall buildings in Peru is always Lima, and is either San Isidro or Miraflores, just so you know. You are very impressive too.
Honestly the fact that you got Ghana solely by recognizing yellow pannels and tape on the roof racket, I think that's fair. I even think that's impressive.
Yes it is. That Football club is named after the city where it belongs to. Lanús, which is a pretty big urbanization, has its own division between Lanús and Lanús Oeste.
My streak records for this map are 12 without moving and 73 with moving... so 100% agree that storing separate streaks according the settings is a good idea.
Lol I used to think this too - it’s actually a pretty racist thing that white people made up that in black neighbourhoods hung shoes represent a drug dealing area, I’m pretty sure it’s actually just to commemorate the dead.
An interesting thing about this game mode is that there is no Taiwan present, once I got a round that looked like classic Taiwan from A diverse world, tried to click on Taiwan and nothing happened and it ended up being China. I guess they did it for political reasons?
Oh, interesting. It seemed like they were just using countries the way Google recognises them (for example Kosovo etc.), but Google definitely does recognise Taiwan. Is Hong Kong also part of China in this gamemode? Either way, it probably is political, since they went out of their way to contradict what Google (which they otherwise rely on) says.
@@Vojife Hong Kong being part of China is quite normal, and I’d be more surprised to see it independent in this However Taiwan is different, I feel it should be separate
Argentinian here. The word was "Albumes argentinos". An album is a book where one store family pictures. Also, fun fact, as the popular saying goes here in Argentina, when you find a pair of tennis shoes hanging from a cable, that means you can buy drugs in that very spot.
@@muhilan8540 a few days ago I was watching a Better Call Saul episode in Netflix, and there was a scene where a Mexican cartel was snuggling coke using a ice cream truck, and one of the spots they usually stopped to leave their guns and load drugs in the truck was marked with pair of tennis shoes hanging from a cable. So, maybe this shoe thing has a similar meaning there in the U.S. too.
Fun Fact: Those shoes swinging from the lines means drugs near by. Well at least it does in spain from my time living there. Of course I never partaked.
I did some digging and it seems that in Ghana for a car to be considered a taxi it must have these yellow/orange panels installed. Either all of the cars we see in the video are actual taxis or they used to be ones or they have these panels just in case.
I can't tell you which, but I imagine some areas of the world have different styles, similar to how different cars are more popular in some parts of the world than others.
There are only few number of google streetview cars roaming around for each country, especially for poorer and more remote ones. They'll do coverage for long stints on these few cars, and you'll notice the same car on multiple locations. The tape on the roof rack is just Tom's observation for one (perhaps the single) car in Ghana.
For the roofrack situation: Who cares? Its an indicator youre in the country. I always guess Guatemala based on the fact you can see the side mirrors :D
I was super proud of a 9 country streak no moving, although I wanted 10 the final image had so little to go on, I guessed mexico when it was dominican republic. Good to see you in this mode!
As a peruvian it was super funny lol. If you look close, you'll see a San Isidro sign and in the map of lima it's there too in big letters, San Isidro is a district.
Got there shit together nah, I remember playing GeoGuessr a lot a few years ago, I come back now and I have to pay a monthly subscribtion in order to play more than once every 24 hours
So I was confused at first when you said you wouldn't move around.. but then saw you move 360 degrees around. So you are allowed to scroll around in a circle which to me means moving but not moving forward or backwards down the street.
On country streak has anyone noticed you can't click on the Jammu & Kashmir area of India whilst on a country streak? I just wondered why as it's the only place I've found that you physically can't click on? I thought maybe the reason was that it's the bit of land China and India are fighting over - but even that doesn't make sense.
So much love your stuff, man! This mode is really interesting, but i think it should be played a bit faster, may be with time limit 3 minutes and no need to zooming, just click on the country. The old mode is still better imo, there where we like to see zooming and insane guesses. Wish you luck with 20 countries!
Honest man, Tom Davies. 0% clickbait, just a nerd recognizing clues. As an American inundated with all manner of manipulation in a crumbling society, I find your videos an unexpected antidote to a world that’s difficult to understand. Thank you, Tom.
Fair enough! I am Sri Lankan and I was convinced that last one was Sri Lankan too! Only things that put me off was the wall design and the street sign.
The Country Streak map for Geoguessr is not very good for no moving. The choice of having a ton of spanish south american countries forces a lot of guessing (Argentina/Uruguay, Peru/Bolivia, Ecuador/Colombia), so does the Bulgaria/Macedonia pair or the Czech/Slovakia pair. A lot of countries that are interesting to play in no moving, like New Zealand, Iceland, Turkey or Mexico, are very rare. I guess it's understandable that you almost never hit the US, Russia or Brazil, but still they should be there a little more often than they are imo. Also I'm more familiar with country spots in general and this hits a ton of cities, so there are more clues I guess but the clues are less interesting, it's more "Oh I recognize this language" and less "I get a feel for the place"...
Can I get some explanations please. Why the blurred out German residences? I've also noticed that Germany has very minimal street view images (drag your little yellow man over Europe to see what I mean). Does Germany have some sort of privacy laws regarding this? Also, the Ghana yellow panels? What's that about? A quirky car mod for looks?? Thanks.
No, you should use all clues available to you. If it's not allowed, the makers of the game need to fix the issue. It's not your job as the player to fix the game, your job is to win the game. That's the whole point of games, win.
I got my hometown of Steinbach, Manitoba, Canada pop. 13k on Geoguessr. I'm wondering if anyone else got their small town or if you live in a big city, your local suburb. The odds of me rolling my irrelevant hometown are virtually impossible
In my opinion you shouldn't actively look for hints on the Google car because then it's just knowledge about the game, not geography. Which is fine, if that's what you want to go for I suppose. Now obviously there's always going to be a layer of meta-gaming involved e.g. only certain countries exist on GeoGuessr, but that doesn't mean you should actively look for meta-gaming hints like the roof rack on the car. Just my two cents on the issue.
not to be rude or anything I actually really like your videos but the way you say “squiggles” every time you the alphabet is not English is kinda rude, because it like undermines the alphabet (and I know you don’t mean it in that way but it definitely sounds like it to me). I would appreciate it you just said “it’s not English” or “I don’t understand what that says” instead of calling it something that it isn’t namely “squiggles”.
Cheers for pointing out the existence of this! GG was beginning to get a bit stale for me, haven't played it in a few months, time to give this a bosh! You should really get sponsored by them man!
To the round in Germany. Besides many people who show the flag of their state rathen than the german flag itselfs, it could also has been the flag of a football team or club. Presenting your support for big clubs like "Bayern München" is not something rarely seen in Germany. So if you are sure it has to be a german area, just do not get confused by differing flags.
My issue with the tape on the car is that I dislike the meta that is developing around Geoguessr. While the Ghana tape is rather innocent, I see many Geoguessr content creators recommending that new players learn which colour cars appear in which countries, and which types of roof racks each car has. If one can remember these details they only have to identify the continent and they can narrow down the choices to one or two countries. To me, this simply removes the fun from the game and I don't understand how people find it enjoyable to watch. Car metadata is different from memorizing flags, learning differences in languages, or learning license plate colours as it is a non-transferable skill.
I don't know how I noticed, but if you pause perfectly between 11:05 and 11:06 the reflection on the red and white building's far right window looks like a child's face :|
basic tip - even if you don't see any car driving - if all the cars are parking in the left (facing front) - you know it's a left driving country.. and vice versa.
I have no problem with you using your ghana car tape knowledge at all. But I could do without the constant chat about where exactly the location is. It´s country streak.
I haven't been able to understand the reasoning on the position of the sun :S. If it's on the west or east, how can you tell which emisphere are you on?
