Supreme actually has unique pieces though, the quality of the pieces are wayyyy better then brandy and for brandy they don't have the branding on it, so it just looks like your wearing something cheap... considering the amount of moola it is.
@@lydiamarsters9318 i'd argue that the branding and blatant use of logos on things you spent a lot of money on makes them look cheap but i don't care for either brand so idk
Yes!!! The most annoying thing is clicking on a post and then seeing “this is my collection, not for sale, do not ask to buy” Like ??? Depop is an app for SELLING clothing. If you want to just show off what clothes you have use Instagram or Pinterest or something not a clothing selling app...
brandy melville is honestly a really interesting case study on economics, marketing, and the psychology of teenage girls. as an econ major i kinda wanna make a video on it too lmao
Yesss what is the point of posting a collection when there is literally one piece they are actually selling or not even selling just ‘open to offers’ just post the single damn piece
Stuff on depop is meant to be second hand clothes or handmade stuff and therefore cheaper than than the retail price🤦🏻♀️ people are just doing this to look ‘exclusive’ which just contradicts the whole point of depop
The worst part is like.. people will find a thrifted item and mark it up but the whole point of the app is to get clothes more affordably without having to go out if the thrift store isn’t close by // can’t go for whatever reason
marble soda THIS!! i hate going to a website looking for good jeans and those jeans are like $60+ so i go to depop for cheaper but good jeans and they’re like $80+..... why am i even on depop then?? 🙄
Yessssss! I started selling on Depop in 2014 and the way the platform has changed isss... yikes. I got my bff to start selling as well and he sold a silk blouse for $5 (!!!!!!) and this vintage shop who bought it reposted it for $80.... and IT SOLD! We were gagged and dragged. Smh. Edited for a typo lol.
zibbysavestheworld yeah for real. I sold a bnwt “rare” (not rlly) brandy tank for just a few dollars over retail price cuz Depop fees and the girl who bought it resold it for like 40+ dollars and it sold! Also it was still on the site at the time and was only 16$ 👀 I was like k then lol but also I don’t wanna be practically scamming ppl because I don’t need money that bad u know ??
oh my gosh it's so annoying like even with the site up some people are still putting clothes up for double the amount on depop. depop is supposed to be a site to sell clothes for less not to scam people with the "rare" mark on things that aren't even rare bc they're on the website. it's ridiculous and so sad.
Literally so glad this has been brought up. I see people selling like a basic ass floral gina top and are like *sEnD oFFeRs, nO lEss tHan £25* like whattt. Or when they post clothes that they don't even know if they want to sell, its so irritating, I stopped buying brandy items off depop
@@carmenyt i agree their clothes are nice, but we are (teenage/young girls) so easily manipulated by whats popular and trendy, i look back on old trends and think 'why did i think that was cute' i think the styles adorable now, but if i break down how and why it became trendy its because it's exclusive to 'those girls' and 'those bodies' we all want to be and have. this doesn't mean the people who shop there are bad people at all. but the people in charge of the store know what they are doing x
@Bella M i know! but more shops are definitely catching on like urban outfitters (specifically out from under), boutiques online, and i've also been seeing some cute pieces on h&m
daisy perry there are a variety of sizes at brandy Melville... from Large to x small but the hoodies are always large and the cropped baby tees are most likely only small or extra small 👍
also i found out that most of these popular Nike spellout jumpers are actually bootlegs and not even real, so sad that people are being scammed out of literally hundreds :((
the depop reddit community gets heated about the brandy girls that post “interest checks” or the girls who post pictures of their entire brandy melville collection in a post but then say “these are not for sale, do not ask. i will not respond” it’s ridiculous?? the app is to resell clothing... i actually sold a brandy top the other day. i bought it for a little over $20 but it was in perfect condition and i knew it was sought after so i listed the price as $18. i had SO MANY girls lowballing me. one girl had posted a picture on her account of the same shirt i was selling that said “Major ISO!! if you are selling this or know someone selling this, PLEASE let me know!” then she messaged me and asked if i’d sell it for $14 including shipping. um no. i waited until someone bought it for the listed price because i KNOW how these girls are and how high demand BM items are on there. idk... enter the depop brandy scene at your own risk. (also i think ISO means in search of? idfk lmao)
omg this entire comment is my EXACT situation. i absolutely hatee when girls post all of their brandy items, & then the caption is like “i’m only selling one top! don’t ask to buy the others” like um ? and i literally sold a brandy shirt for $18, yet i had sooo many girls ask to lower the price like girl bye.
imani RIIGHT!?! Like girl if you’re posting your whole bm collection & are only selling one or two pieces..... just..... make their own separate listings??? why bunch it together with the rest of your collection lmao i truly don’t get it
and they're like "not looking to sell ✨ just a collection post, only selling for really high offers🥰😍, nO lOwBaLls pLz" like bro no one's gonna buy ur tank top for $90 so why are u posting it
Elz Garrett thanks for replying and great video! i feel like not a lot of people really know about this but i’ve seen it going on for some time now. i love all your brandy videos, always informative.
i'm so sorry, i cant imagine how mad i would be if that happened to me. its horrible when u try to act better only to have someone take advantage of that
I sell vintage(60s-80s) on Depop and this really reminds me of how the vintage community also just overprices things to the max! ESPECIALLY if they are popular shops, people will pay these wild prices just because of this made up rarity and ease to buy it. I just wish people would sell things for decent prices or at least offer sales, but they won’t because shockingly people will buy these regardless of the high price... just makes it harder for everyone else to get into a certain style, wether it be this brandy melville brand or any other.
Yeh I have a green Carla skirt in perfect condition but I need to sell it because I can't fit into it anymore and I'm broke, I don't think my skirt is still on the website so I would possibly sell it for a couple more than I got it for but not £50+ 💀💀💀
some items are actually exclusive but a majority of them like the plain amara tanks aren’t even rare LOL. but some of them are store-exclusive or from warehouse sales
I literally just saw a dress listed as discontinued on Depop for 2x the original price and when I looked it up it’s currently being sold on the website.
literally my pet peeve on depop is seeing those “bm collection posts” and they aren’t even willing to sell most of the time much less at reasonable prices. like keep your damn clothes then??
The problem is the inconsistency of their website, literally nothing is ever in stock!! Sellers on depop are able to take advantage of this and call an item ‘rare’
Brandy Melville doesn’t even have anything rare lmao I see over 15 girls everyday at school accidentally wearing the same Brandy Melville top. That’s why I stopped shopping there cuz everybody would be wearing the same clothes. 😂
LMAOO right!? i got so bored of going outside and seeing 12 other white girls in the exact same top as me that i stopped shopping there. Nothing from brandy is 'rare'
Can we keep this under the table- I’m still scamming 13 year old girls with 2014 brandy melville and i don’t wanna b found out - edit: it was a joke lol. I only sell my old thrifts for like 6 bucks
I also love how they always text “I’m not sure if I’m selling this but if I get high offers I might do” 🙄🙄🙄 I used to buy brandy clothing off of Depop but it was way too expensive for the holes and stains ... sometimes you’re lucky enough to buy clothing for half of the original price :)
somebody made a post on depop that exposed brandy, they have a secret depop acc (@lascatoladelcuore) and they have been buying items for “research” when they really just copy the designs. they literally sold the carousel design. @graceglee made the post and somebody in the comments has sold to that acc before and the address was a brandy melville store!!!
Yes, I read about that on Reddit. But I have shipped some items I purchased on Depop to my work place, so that could be their case too. But after I went through their purchases, I definitely see a ressemblance with Brandy's actual garments. Smells fishyyy
When brandy do warehouse sales, they sell the shit that doesn't sell and stuff they copied from small brands. Also, I've watched many 'work with me at brandy' and many stores have brands like Ralph Lauren in the back and when they finish with them they send the, to warehouse sales and give them to the girls on the research team. Which are skinny white girls aged 14-17 anyway which is completely fucked up anyway!
Samantha Smith it’s true, that account bought a floral tank top from me last February and the address was very weird so I made sure it was correct by looking it up and it was a Brandy Melville store in NYC and Stephan marsen owns the company and that was the name on the label 😗
i posted something talking about this on depop and my comments were just “people can price however they want” LMAOO WHAT $200 FOR A PIECE OF FABRIC GIRL WHAT
It’s also not just the people that price “rare” items so high, it’s the people who buy them that keep perpetuating this trend. So many people now can’t even afford to buy any brandy items off Depop because every item is being labeled as rare and people are buying into it. Those that have the money will pay over $100 for just a shirt so obviously people see that things are getting sold for a lot of money and they want to profit too so they sell their stuff for that high of a price. I think the best way to get people to stop doing this is just to stop paying that much, even if you really want something just remember that a $16 tank top (no matter how “rare” it is) is not worth paying $60 for :))
Hey, some of those aren’t actually selling for £100 or £123. Sometimes they put the prices high so no one buys until the seller has got lots of offers to choose from x
omg before I tired to buy a grey Brandy Melville hoodie and it had a stain on it and I asked the person if there was a stain on it and she said no it’s the lighting but it was on every single picture like sis ok - 🥴
i agree that its sort of ridiculous to sell at these prices but lets face it these sellers only price their items exorbitantly because girls are WILLING TO PAY. its just capitalism and they are filling the demand for the stupid pink cheeta tops. if they priced lower, sure it would be more moral but it's also naive to sell for less just because you think it's nicer, while in reality you can make a real profit off of the tops. your video is great though xx just dropping my two cents
im guilty of selling a little lime green tank for $50 after I found out it was sought after😔 I mean, if they'll buy it at that price I won't turn down the opportunity! I just find it unfortunate these girls are willing to pay that much for "rare" brandy 🤣
Yeah I think if you can get that much, you might as well take advantage. As long as you're just honestly listing the price and not asking for "bids" or making up fake offers for your piece, I think it's all good. It's also up to the buyer, especially in the "brandy community" to be aware of what is "rare" and what isn't/ why it matters to much to them
This not only goes on Depop but it also goes on Poshmark, I saw a knit sweater that goes for about $35-40 selling for $65-70. This is in a fact a new hypebeast culture for teenage girls.
those aren’t the actual real price, they just put a random price and instead wait for offers from people trying to buy it from their ISO, i don’t get it either
i’ve seen a girl buy a pair of brandy sweatpants and a brandy hoodie. then she dyed it a lavender color and sold them as a bundle for $240!! two hundred and forty dollars! for a sweatshirt and sweatpants! it’s insane.
I used to buy a lot of brandy melville clothes off of poshmark, and all of it was decently cheap, like 8-15 dollars... but seeing this! that’s just crazy how much people are charging on depop
yess thank you for making a video about this because every time i open the app it's just cluttered with all these not for sale collection posts and super overpriced items and it's sooo annoying
i got banned recently cause someone reported me for “scamming them”. Tbh i’m done with depop i’ve been in contact with them about this for over a month, they take no action in these people ripping their customers off, yet the are banning people who are innocent?
I was thinking about this the other day when I was using the app. Anytime I go on the app and search up Brandy all I see is “rare” clothing that’s priced way too high. I’m like it’s not worth that much
I love how everyone watching this has seen that exact post of the pink cheetah top... and knows damn well she deleted the comments of us calling her out.
THIS. It needed to be talked about. They are selling for outrageous prices. Selling Brandy should be cheaper because it's used and Depop is supposed to be a second hand shop, not out to make money like a full on business. So sad to see this cult-like behavior 😭
All I know, is that I’ve been trying to find a vintage Brandy shirt, as in the singer brandy.... and I can’t find shit cause they all tag their shit with “brandy” 🙄
I am a clothes hoarder so I use my depop to sell a lot of stuff and once i sold a brandy melville top for $8 to a girl and the next day i saw it on her page for $65 and it was sold... i really don’t understand like why don’t people buy something similar is actual quality 😂
@@ElzGarrett Aritzia is a Canadian brand! They're not inherently sustainable like that isn't their mission, but their clothes are a much higher quality than brandy/urban and last for years which is why their prices are higher :/
I shop on depop quite a bit, and i see this ALL the time. It’s very rare for me to see anything from brandy less than $40. Most of the ones that are priced really high, are on there for awhile and even use the tactic of “just reduced price from x amount” even if it isn’t to make the buyer feel they’re getting even more of a “deal”
It’s insane how much ppl are overcharging for shirts that go for $20 BRAND NEW. they’re really tryna be slick charging hundreds of dollars for a shirt that’s USED that will eventually come back in stock.
honestly last summer i almost fell into the trend as well. i find it quite interesting how brandy sort of became the skinny teenage white girl's brand.
omg right!! i’ve been wanting the green hawaii sweater and everyone was selling it for at least $30 more than the retail even though it was available on the website!
I always see posts of brandy clothes and the seller says ‘message me with offers’ - I would do but I know there’s gonna be other girls in their private messages saying ridiculous stuff like £80+🤦🏼♀️
And the thing is that majority of the “rare” items are just colors or patterns that they don’t make anymore. You can get the exact same item in new condition from the actual website. I don’t know who in the right mind will spend 5 times the price of the original item when you can get the same thing in a different color for much less.
i totally agree w how ppl shouldn’t list things as rare and for super crazy prices . i sell my clothes on depop and i understand how annoying it must be to want a $16 amara top that $200 . but , for that pink cheetah top it was never on the website , only ever in stores . i’m not saying it’ll never go on the website bc it probably will , but the pink cheetah top was only limited to a few stores in ny and seems like a “rare” thing to them . they can’t get that specific item anywhere else . im not defending them , but i can see from their point of view . in actuality am i gonna pay $200 for a amara tank... no . that’s ridiculous and a waste . SOME crazy ppl are tho
I must say , never tried ordering BM but I do have a similar experience with a brand called Lazy Oaf . This brand has some specific old collections that are now sold for a huge mark up in the second hand apps like depop. The reason for that is the fact that people are really do look for those items - and letting the people who sells it know they look for it through an ISO post. there for the second hand prices get raised quite a bit . I can say for myself that one time I tried buying a specific boot off of depop and it had like two posts of people selling it . I bought one and I had a problem with the seller that wasn’t active so after some time - I bought the second one . After I bought the second one people started posting ISOs for this boot like crazy - no-one sold it , so people posted an ISO and there for it got a mark up when the next person sold that boot. are many collectors of different brands , they have their own communities and market for things that to the ‘regular’ person won’t find the value in . But as long as they can sell it back in a higher mark up or the price they bought it in , I really see no harm in that (as long as it’s fair and the price is for an item that can really get sold back out there and not an item with stains and such...) hope I made sense , English isn’t my main language and I found it hard to explain this ..haha anyways great and interesting video ❤️
@/ashleychanggg does the same thing! In her reviews, she bought a turtleneck cheetah print for $14 and sold it for $45. I hope she doesn't see this lmao
its terrifying i just wanted a cheaper version of some of their clothes so I didn't have to pay the brand money and ppl are spending SO MUCH money on "rare" items
my friend sells her “rare” brandy for like 50+ and i literally told her it was on the website and she just didn’t care at all and i literally get secondhand embarrassment
Omg yes I recently opened up my depop shop. I sold all of my Brandy stuff for no more than 25$...then the more I started exploring the app I saw people selling their items for over 60+ dollars I was mind blown like is this really depop culture?? Kinda smart, but over all gross as hell.
I was selling old brandy shirts that don’t fit me anymore for $10 and still having girls ask me to lower the price i was shook lmao didn’t even answer them bc they were bought right up
