I went to high school with Gary. They put up a statue in his honor in Lincoln, ME They really captured his face in that statue.

Had an opportunity to visit SFC Shughart's grave in Carlisle, PA, back in October. Not too far off the PA Turnpike. What a sacrifice both men made.

May God keep the souls of Gary Gordon and Randy Shughart and also Mike Goffena. Maximum respect for them and for everything they did... if the congressmen had given what General Garrison asked for, the chance of them being here would have been high. Jeff, a suggestion, could you interview Brad Halling? I think he could tell a lot of stories about Shughart and Gordon and he was in the helicopter with them and he was attacked and lost his leg.

Here’s a video of Brad Hallin. He doesn't, unfortunately, speak to the details that you're probably wanting but it’s nonetheless worth watching. There are two aerial views of the crash site still available on the internet. One is in color, the other in black & white. I have no military background at all, but it seems to me that those guys didn't have any space whatsoever for cover. Unlike the movie, they weren't in the helicopter or just outside of it based upon my reading of BHD and Durant's account in "In the Company of Heroes." That made me think of the passage in the book where Bowden stated two well-trained snipers could hold off “an undisciplined mob indefinitely.” Even if there had been appropriate cover, though, they would have run out of ammo. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yXFycByi1vE.html

Had the privilege of hearing Mike Durant speak in person on the BHD incident. Powerful to say the least. Regarding Shugart and Gordon and the other US Service Members lost in October of 93' ....I'm beyond grateful such Men lived!

I thank God that men of this caliber exist and are willing to fight for our great nation. Extremely powerful and moving to hear you tell of the bravery and dedication these Warriors had for their fellow Soldiers.

No greater honor or privilege to live in a country where warriors such as these two, are willing to fight and die for their brothers. Our nation can never repay such a debt of service and sacrifice. Heaven gained two great warriors that day. And my country was reminded of what courage and brotherhood look like. 🇺🇲

I have a friend Tony (a brother from another mother) from San Diego, who flew one of those AH-6 "Little Birds" with that same unit, tho he was on leave during that operation. But he knew bot those guys and talked about them several times. Jeff, I want to first thank you for your service Sir, and also thank you very much for sharing with us your own personal thoughts and feelings about this event and those men. For you to remember them and comment on them over 30yrs later also tells us the type of man you are too Sir! That has not gone on unnoticed by me Sir as I'm sure it has with others, and should also go without say. So again, I salute you and thank you for your years of service Major Jeff Struecker, who if viewers are not aware of, is a recipient of a Silver Star and no less then THREE Bronze Star Medals himself!! NOTE: I see they named part of "Tiger Lands" training center "Shughart Gordon" in honor of both those two men which is also very cool! But, as always, that's just my opinion! :)))

I gave a talk to a big group of young Scouts once a long time ago. I used the numbers 12 and 3. 12 for the 12 points of the Scout Law, and 3 for the 3 parts of the Scout Promise. My illustration for 12 was my dad's RTO, Sgt John Mitchell that went on a tough mission in the 11th month of a 12 month Viet Nam tour. He knew it would be a tough fight and others volunteered to take his place so he could get home to his wife and 2 kids. John said "No way." He was willing to go the whole 12 months and not risk another's life. For my illustration for the number 3, I used this exact moment. The fact that SFCs Shugart and Gordon asked THREE TIMES to lay down their lives for their friends simply illustrated a willingness to mean what you say in your oaths, to never leave a fallen comrade. I challenged the Scouts the think about their words, their promises, and to remember the valor of men like John, Gary and Randy.

Jeffrey, I am reminded of the Scripture in JOHN 15:13 (ESV) : "Greater Love has no one than this, that someone lay down their life for their friends" GOD BLESS all of our Heroes from BHD. 3-4, October 1993🇺🇸

God bless America but unfortunately one day soon you'll be fighting mobs on your own streets that your government let in by the millions, its the same here inthe UK, l have friends from every continent, but every country needs to vet strictly those it allows citizenship, don't let those that hate you into your country. Citizenship can only be given to those that wish to be your friend 🇺🇲🇬🇧
