SOOOOOOO Good! I'm a massive Scott Lafaro fan, and when I learned Bromberg (my favorite living bassist) was releasing this record, I could not have been more excited. It does not disappoint. It has immediately become one of my favorites.
A wonderful way to start my weekend. Evocative rendering of one of Bill Evans' most heartfelt compositions. Bromberg certainly matches the talent and feeling of two of the pianist's best bassists; Scott LaFaro and Eddie Gomez.
I've admired Bromberg's playing for some time and here he achieves what may be the top level of contemporary acoustic bassists. He certainly has the technical side of things down well. What is lacking - to the ears of a guy who remembers LaFaro when he was alive and changing everyone's attitude toward jazz bass - is LaFaro's fiery style, full of emotion that could barely contain his ideas and passion. Bromberg, of course, follows his own path as he must.
