If you come across this post, maximum love to you, you're obviously a big BJM fan as you're interested in how other people want to praise the gang. Amazing set. Best live performance I've watched
A great performance to be sure, but if you want a performance that is bordering on perfection, check this one out: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nsQ9y_h496k.html
I send the link of this show to anyone I want to turn on to the BJM!! It is the best representation I've seen of the quality "happening" you get at a BJM show...
You just have to respect a schizophrenic ex-junkie who battled through all that and continues to make his great music all these years! Anton is a legend!
Legend in his own mind for sure . No one thinks higher of Anton , then Anton . Well that's judging from the documentary "Dig" . Never seen such a spoiled brat in my life . Except maybe me . Hope he's learned from his past and is actually a nice person now 🙏
@@landonjackson3064 He was a dick in that documentary but he's grown since then and has become a good person - just very private. The people who made that documentary also featured the most unflattering footage. No denying he was nuts and narcissistic, but he is one of the very few people who has changed for the better. And his music is as good as it's ever been.
@@CrazyFnCrazyMahn fair enough. I know people change. I've changed for God's Sake. I too was a junkie for 30 plus years and have been clean for 6. Hope the best for him and his music . I am a musician too and like him , am one of the survivors of addiction. 🙏
We should all hope and pray for Anton to stay young at heart, vibrant and healthy so he can continue playing his great music for all of us. I'm older than Anton and I totally appreciate the effort that he puts in. We're all very lucky (at least in my opinion) to have had this opportunity to be part of his musical journey. Rock on Anton and BJM!!!
I keep coming back to this show (video)....It stands up to be one of their best tour videos yet....sound, groove and mood, lighting, right at dusk outdoors....drummer is in the zone...Anton mellow gold, oh yeahhhh.....one of the late (hopefully not last) rhythm guitarist appearances.
Here's to y'all intro - Geezers 6:30 Vad Hände Med Dem? 11:20 Who ? 14:25 Nevertheless 18:45 Groove is in the Heart 23:10 Anemone 28:25 Days, Weeks and Moths 34:00 Servo 38:35 Pish 43:25 asking for the red lights, then Devil May Care ((Mom & Dad Don't)) 51:40 Yeah Yeah, with the cataclysmic ending as always, and some fucked up dance moves by good ol' Joel cheers
Feeling very sorry myself coming down from the cosmic path and this soothes my soul like a warm fluffy blanket protecting me from the outside world. Thank You.
Servo and Pish back to back is something special. This entire show they were so tight and this mix, off the board, is top notch. The audience seems to not be aware of how special this is. Back to Servo...Wonder what Anton thought when he came up with that riff? And then Pish. One of BJMs best songs ever. Anton the riffmaster...and grand discerner of PHAT bass lines.
Anton looking like Neil Young and love it! So glad dude is alive and well! The catalog of music this band has is absolutely amazing! Great recording 👌 thanks for sharing this!
Saw them at First Avenue in Mpls. this last May. Hadn't been to that venue in years (getting old). Had been waiting to see them live since I first heard "When Jokers Attack" on an internet radio station in 2004. That's when I got bit, and bit hard. Greatest band in the world of course. This was the first chance I had to see them live. Of course wasn't going to miss it. Three hours of utter bliss. I laughed, roared, cried and haven't had such an experience since, since... not since ANYTHING. No band, at any stage in my life has ever inspired me, blasted me to the core or had the power to shift my heart and perspective on my own life as this band has, whether on disc, vinyl or digital and almost beyond comprehension, live. They TRANSCEND, in the purest form. That Anton, and the band, only get better is an enigma to the degree that all one can do is sit back and thank Anton, and whatever deity you believe in, that this is a part of our lives.
mad reaper damn you took what i thought and felt when I saw them in Boston in May of 2016, and put it into words I really couldn't have. Thank you! Well Said. I'll add to Mad Reapers beautifully written comment: like him, I am getting older. Just hit the big 40. The grunge era was my prime but this tops it
I lived in the Haight in San Francisco in the 1990s. I knew these guys when they first started. One of our friends Karen, we called her Skaren, was an original member. She died of a heroine overdose, never experienced their success. I can't believe how huge they got.
fantastic drummer...he was with them the last 2 times I saw them. looks like a cat from a 60s surfer band, but he's solid as a rock, aaaall niiiight looong. all of the musicians there are incredible, perfect complement to and expression of anton's music
Absolutely! Same thing when I've seen them the past couple of times. The whole experience was incredible, but Dan kind of stole the show in a subtle way. It's no secret that any band is only as good as their drummer, but Dan Allaire has been Anton's secret weapon for many years, and he deserves so much more credit and recognition for it.
Joel task might seem underrated and too simple, but we all know how important joel and the tambourine in in this band. 'is not random that hes in the middle of stage.
Well you were two years earlier than me. I just found them today. Folks interested in all kinds of music will find the good stuff - eventually. Thank God for RU-vid!!!
Speaking of diggin, watch the documentary DIG! You'll appreciate them and get another band to throw in your other pocket as a bonus. I discovered them from the documentary 15+ years ago crazy to think how it's been that long. The catalog of music they have in absolutely crazy!
absolutely, great production, the sound is excellent esp Colin Hegna's bass, Anton's vocals have never sounded better. Even the lightshow was great taking the show from daylight through dusk, twilight, sunset to black of night... I hope those white strobe-type things didn't instigate any epileptic attacks
Omg, Joel's dancing on the last song 🤣 Seriously, fantastic video! My husband and I have tickets to see them in October at the Van Buren in Phoenix, can't wait 😎✌️
My attention span is shit but the first song really blew me away. I have never seen this band before, heard of or anything. Just goes to show what shit the masses are fed and what total wanknuts the music industry is. God Bless 'em and rock forever.
by far the best true" indie" , punk, real as it can get band to come out of LA's local music scene .no other band of this era (90,s to early 2000's ) has that strange element of mystic , danger, true underground ,controversial , drug culture ,high bar musical ability .true living artist lifestyle hand to mouth highly respected by peers ,critics, etc
They played so many old favorites...i just found this and was wondering the same... They must have been playing at a venue where people just buy tickets just bc it's 'the' venue to be at no matter what. They obviously didn't know what they were witnessing....
23:01 "Thank you very cool that makes me feel good" God I love you Anton XD. He's the reason I feel any hope of being a musician at all. He's so human and it's fantastic.
Man, this is so much of what I have been looking for all my musical flow. They represent , if that is what I'm trying to say, the essence of the ringing in my ears.
Are you on your period, Patrick? They're both great, relax. Everyone realizes that one of their influences was the Velvet Underground. You're preaching to the choir.
I love the richness of all the layers going on with the strings, but kudos to the drummer for being exactly what you're looking for! Solid, simple, gets deep in that pocket.
and yet every performance, Anton finds some reason to stop and humiliate his drummer. No wonder he left - and Dan Allaire is one of the best drummers playing today
Dick67 he always plays with a purpose. You gotta think Anton loves him and how he plays. Always giving it his all. Unlike Ryan who from a fans perspective really checked out. If you're in a legendary band like BJM working for a genius like Anton, be thankful you are even sharing enough space for your feet on stage. End of story.
Jax - absolutely. For one thing, you never see him (or Anton) smile during a song. He's not here to jam and enjoy himself. He's here to perform a piece of work, a piece of art, to the utmost of his ability.
Its this style of music that is what some of us need, along with smoke, these types of musical progressions, they move us , trippy kind of like to, sticky goo like. Repeating notes.
remember "band name"?... oh yea! they shoulda been huge! what happened??... well... "insert self destructive behavior" ... oh yea "insert awkward pause"... they sure were good.. too bad..
built a global bizness w my interpretation of the way this band approached their respective 'industry'...bjm was 1 of my primary inspirations...thank u
Saw them way back at a small underground club in Seattle with Dandy Warhols. F'ing incredible memorable concert including a sort-of duet with Courtney and Anton.
I think their sound is really big, for lack of a better way to describe ...this venue and stage really suited them I thought-- esp. the final number they were all really jammin on...
Listening to this while doing cardio on edibles works very nicely for me. No couch lock, great circulation and oxygen exchange, and great musical wallpaper.
Maybe so. there is a classic rock precedent. Check out Ray Cooper, percussionist who played live with George Harrison, Clampton, Elton John, Pink Floyd, and a lot of others. Lots of tambourine.
remember in Dig! though, when Anton was a little too strung out and unpredictable? Their manager sent Joel to represent the band and charm the new label execs
