I was up late watching my man Anthony Bourdain and season 11 episode 6 has Anton. His sideburns caught my attention and there was this awesome chord melody playing in the background. I pulled his name up on youtube and discovered this band and CANNOT stop listening to them.I am AMAZED and so grateful to have discovered them. INCREDIBLE MUSIC!!!!!!

I'm 62, and always looking for new good music. BJM is extraordinary. Last year I found them by exploring you-tube, and I CAN'T GET ENOUGH, I can't do a day without them. It creeps through my heart, it creeps through my mind. I'm addicted, for sure. I love 60's hippy-music, I love punk, and since then thers's a gape. But now, BJM really got me. Every album, no exceptations, every single song with movies and paintings on you-tube, keeps on going. Hypnotizing, even when I'm sober. It fills my day, at home, at work, and while I'm driving. No end.
just turned 60. like you, seen and heard it all.......really snobby about music. There. I said it. I stumbled onto BJM five years ago and got sucked into the rabbit hole -- where I remain. Not even loving Neil Young at 13 had as much impact on me as Anton has -- and the weirdest thing is -- i don't know why. I guess cause it's real. Every time I hear this old obscure not-very well recorded song called "Everybody Says" I want to start crying, same with Open Heart Surgery. On Everybody Says, it's the girl's voice. It's almost too much to take, for me anyway. i think that's a good thing. I think it's on Methadrone. With Open Heart Surgery it's that funeral like - weird sloshy drumming and the guitar strumming.... just knocks me out. Anton is a master at taking a bunch of really simple riffs and beat and keys and guitars and orchestrating them into something truly unique. That's his real gift, IMO. I give him a pass on some of this cliched lyrics -- which i wouldn't have done back in the day with other bands -- because like who the fuck cares? Its sounds GREAT! And Like a Rolling Stone has already been done. Oh, and look up their Moshcam concert in 2010 in Sydney on you tube. Perhaps like you, I've seen all these BJM videos many times -- and for me that's the best of the lot from that era, especially Heroin vs Prozac and the last song Hide and Seek. It's really well-recorded and filmed. I don't know this for sure -- BJM fanatics, please correct me if I'm wrong --but I sense this may have been one the first shows he played sober. He is at the top of his game imo, even though at time he looks bored -- but i think he was scared to death -- he'd probably just shake his head and not even remember it. This new version of BJM is as good as any of he classic stuff. Good move, Anton.

I caught BJM here in Australia a couple of months ago....the gig blew everyone away. I took who'd never heard of them....he shouted at me during a rolling rhythm section, "this is musical ecstasy".....I'd known this for 15yrs. It's insane to think, Anton I'd taking this band to higher levels everytime.
@Gonz Wouldgo YEAH they are the real deal, going to see them next week in Glasgow, they love playing here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-u1eEuE1-JA0.html
Been listening to this Evolution of a band with incredibly talented people for years, Pure sonic amazement! Everyone, Buy every album and listen chronologically and experience it! Thank you Mr. Newcombe, your music has ‘saved my life’ more than a few times! Personal fave are The Perry Tapes.
I want to be a full-time tambourine player in band! Seriously, great to see BJM still rockin. Not the same band as before, but still great to see them touring.
The French singer is incredible/gorgeous and the drummer is fantastic. Joel is my favorite... The rest are beyond incredible. Anton is pure Genius. BJM is all I listen to these days. Amazing.
Been listening to them for years and years. Its hard to explain but he taps into these expansive spaces in your head. You wind up listening to fewer and fewer other bands.... All BJM all the time.
love this line up -- wasn't sure at first. especially without dan on drums. but this sounds fantastic and i don't even miss the old stuff. great. job anton.....artist never stay the same....keep changing. your old band was great but they were sounding worn -- especially after those three hour shows during that recent tour...... congrats -Anton -- I know this is important to you because I've heard you say it: No resting on your laurels, but you long ago became an indispensable influence n the AMERICAN MUSIC VERNACULAR -- b/c of your insistence in looking at music as art to make everyday, rather than a commodity to make someone else money.....you've changed my entire approach to songwriting. Lastly, I'm sensing here for the first time in a while that you I really know who you are and what you stand for -- and that you are OK with it -- in general -- what more than you ask for in life?
I'm very delightful that people actually diggin' the BJM! Anton surely deserves a recognition, been a fan for a long fuckin time, man. BJM just oozes the truth, sense, and musical quality in its purest form.
For me this band perfectly captures the hippie revolution, much more than any other band I’ve ever heard, their music is free spirited, open minded and designed to lift your soul
im going to see these guys next saturday, i hadnt heard of them and my dad just said hed bought tickets for us...im so glad i am now after hearing their music
Someone always has to be the too cool for the room "knew them before you did guy" He can't help when he was born... Also I'm sure it was a great show because they're still a breathtaking live act
@Gonz Wouldgo i was in army for a year. thing is, i dont know if i can find few more bjm gigs that still not on RU-vid, but i will try. there's will be something, i have few ideas
Was hoping for a setlist, but I don't see one. First song is We Never Had a Chance. 34:48 is That Girl Suicide. 49:21 Anenome. Not sure about the others.
I've seen this about 100x and I only just realized in the last song 2 other musicians come out to join them, one with an accoustic guitar who looks like Donovan and one who looks like he is from Spinal Tap on electric guitar!
the female voice on forgotten graves ... i prefer goddess charisma sometimes to be known as the goddess of movement or simply the ringed one with power presence. i like these names. others must be feeling drawn to her power spell. freakish Guadalupe thing ... concentric strings of colored light wrapped around her is what i notice first because you don't see something like that very often. i will know her music and her birth name.
I enjoyed this concert very much.... but I have to add that I miss the lineup that was around till recently. I sincerely hope that Joel doesn't also leave.... too much change is not a good thing when something is already working
The band changes must ave happened after the Castlemaine concert when Anton blew up with them for not playing "WISDON" fast enough, it dosent take much.
Here are proposed lyrics to the album version of "We Never Had A Chance", corrections welcome! you feel love, well you better love yourself be careful now because love is against the law but you're so high you can give a fuck, give a shit about the law it's worth your blood sweat and tears to be living at all you bought the lies, everybody tries to tell you you're dead it flies before your eyes before anybody has said the motherfuckers never stopped drilling holes in your head you want life, oh but then you die so slow hands up drop your gun shot you dead and that's the whole of the law you close your eyes to look at the lies but then you've seen it all the freeest frame lasts forever but the picture is small this is love, it's everywhere, and that's the damnest thing it's in your eyes, and butterflies, and part of everything the cloudy skies, the fog in your eyes, that will not let you sing a chance to fall and give a call, and grab the magic ring don't be surprised when you wake up and they tell you you're dead or find that hope worth saying there's nothing at all the motherfuckers never stopped drilling holes in your head and maybe now as you're starting to sing you wake up and remember the words to the song maybe now as you're starting to sing you wake up to discover you're singing along
BJM ={late 60s psych rock: Beatles, Stones, Byrds,VU + Space Rock + Krautrock+ Dylan like Folk rock + Shoegaze} updated to 90s, some tinkering in 00s, retooled in 10s- wrapped all the time in a tambourine capsule with the Antoninan style of blending chaos and genius
Bravo BJM!! Thank you Ladynin for sharing this archive forever with the world! The guest singer is great too! Anyone know if she sings or plays in other bands?
This is great music, love each show and the mood it puts me in. Makes me want to take a long road trip windows down smoking cigs and just losing track of life.
