In our little northern town, many of us have John "Red" Shea to thank for keeping Stompin' Tom Connors' legacy going, especially with some of his lesser-known songs, of which Red is a walking encyclopedia. On the evening that Tom passed away, I drove into town to sit and visit with Red, fully expecting a crowd to have gathered in his kitchen, as usual, but, it was only he and I. We took turns playing and singing as many mostly forgotten Stompin' Tom songs as we could to each other, and when Red did this one, it was a first for me. I'd never heard it before. I've never forgotten it since, either..! I swear, I have learned more Canadian history via Tom Connors' songwriting than I ever did in school, and I MAJORED in history.... lol
I recorded this one-take wonder for Red, on his Birthday, this year.

A nice piece of Canadiana, thanks. Great sounding guitar, by the way. I'm kinda partial to some of the smaller guitars.

This one is a 12 fret zero that I built for Jenny in 2005. It's so responsive that I can't use a flatpick on it
