Great video as always. I appreciate that you acknowledged the controversy surrounding the author and then reviewed the book on its own merit. I read this in a book group and we all loved it. We couldn’t help but love the overweight, shy, geeky Oscar and one of our group shed a few tears as she identified with his struggles. It’s an innovative, interesting, and enjoyable book and I second your recommendation. Deb

Hi, Juan! What a wonderful review. I watched the whole video because I have read this amazing book. Thank you for reading Caribbean authors. Part of reading Caribbean literature is reading authors who write from the diaspora. His uses of language especially, of Dominicanish (Dominican Spanglish) is a bold move in terms of decolonial literature and the subversion of imperialism and colonialism. It is quite an accomplishment to win a Pulitzer Prize with a novel written in Dominicanish!!!!! I enjoyed your excellent review. I would like to recommend The Farming of Bones by the multiple Award Winning Haitian-American author Edwidge Danticat. Her novel is about the Trujillo dictatorship from the Haitian side, especially the “perejil” massacre of Haitians during his dictatorship. It is a remarkable look at a historical event. I promise it will not leave you indifferent. Her books are incredibly amazing!!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you for reading the Caribbean. My Puerto Rican heart rejoices with this! Un abrazo cálido desde la isla. 🇵🇷

Hi, Cindy! Thank you for your comment and your kind words. I am so glad you enjoyed my review. I'd love to read more Caribbean literature, both in English and in Spanish, so I truly appreciate your recommendation. I've never read Danticat, but now I know where to begin. ¡Un abrazo desde las Canarias para Puerto Rico!

Thank you so much for this video. It was one of the most amazing and helpful reviews during my whole study. Oscar Wao is my pensum text, and I have endlessly enjoyed reading it. I have my exam in a couple of days and now trying to refresh my knowledge about all the books and get some bits of analyses from different smart people :) The way you talk and explain - it's so pleasant to listen and it's so easy to understand! I wish you hundreds of thousand subscribers!

I’m curious. Have you read his other work? Yunior is a narrator in all his books. Knowing what we know now, I think we can argue that he is a self - insert for the author.

Hi! I haven't read anything else by Díaz, so I wasn't aware that Yunior also narrated his other fiction. That's interesting! Thank you!
