It's crazy to think this charming, amazing actor was in almost every era of Classic Who (from Hartnell's days to Sylvester's). A great Who salute for our favourite Brigadier.

It is A CRIME that The Brigadier wasn’t in New Who but this was an excellent story to go out on !

I love the McCoy era soundtrack. McCoy is such a goof IRL, it's kind of incredible that he gave us the darkest incarnation of the Doctor (not counting The Valeyard, of course).

He was amazing in the Sarah Jane Adventures.

I will forever love the brigadier

I honestly would've been fine if the Brigadier died in this episode while in combat, but it is poetic how the war born Brigadier died peacefully.

"Battlefield" is one of my favourites. One of the first episodes of Doctor Who I ever watched.

"I just can't let you out of my sight can I Doctor?" "Brigadier Alister-Gordon Lethbridge Stewart."

We all love the Brigadier and unit

I was only ~14 when i met him at a convention in New Orleans where i was staff member, he watched me finish my scarf (tom baker era) and when i hit that final stitch was the first one to applaud me, then Colin Baker and JNT. they all were classy and cheerful even at the end of the weekend.

I miss 7 on so many levels.

The music here is more fun than Akinolas new score.. and they didn't brag about having a diverse cast either. They just did it and focused on the story. God I miss old Who.

A shame that Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart didn't try to contact the Doctor to let him know that he and Doris are getting married. If the Doctor had answered the space-time telegraph system that he gave to the Brigadier years earlier, he would've attended and would've been asked to be the Brigadier's best man, or in this case, the best alien at his wedding.

The Brig gets all the best lines in this story. I just do the best I can. Get off my world. His conversations with Morgaine

7 & Ace are the perfect tonic.

Hoping this is a teaser for Ace coming back, not just in the comics like has been announced, but to series 12!

I wish they would do a "Trouble with Tribbles" with Doctor Who and have a current incarnation go back to a classic story and see if they have enough original footage to make interactions with classic and new cast possible.

Unit getting out of a truck, stumbling on a wooden police call box, some kind of alien firing a particle weapon, and then knights in armor show up fighting with swords. Yep, this must be Doctor Who.

The Brigadier is as charming as ever. There's also something endearing about armoured arthurian knights with laser guns. Battlefield is arguably the weakest story of S26, yet's it's still a big bundle of nostalgic fun.

God, I LOVE how the videocameras/tape interact with light coming in from the windows between 1:20 - 1:58, painting the window frame and edges of objects pink/red! That "retro" effect is very hard to authentically recreate in post/editing for stuff shot today, you can always tell the difference between the fake videotape effect and the real deal!

Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart is one of my favorite characters in all of Doctor Who. This episode is one of his finest moments. Morgane looked past the tired old man, and saw the true warrior within. "Beware this man Mordred. He is steeped in blood." The episode also features one of the most chilling speeches by Sylvester McCoy's Doctor (Who I met once!) "All over the world, fools are poised ready to let death fly. Machines of death, .Morgaine A screaming from above. A blight, brighter than the sun. Not a war between armies, nor a war between nations, but just death. Death gone mad! A child looks up into the sky. His eyes turn to cinders. No more tears. only ashes. Is this honor? Is this war? Are these the weapons you would use? TELL ME!" When I saw that when I was a kid, it chilled my soul. I have never forgotten the line "No more tears, only ashes"

I am only buying the blu Ray collections of the best seasons and this is one of them . Just finished Battlefield and it's excellent . Will be getting all the Pertwee ones and just ordered the next Tom Baker one as well 🥰

I still wonder what Doctor Who would’ve been like had it continued into the 90s and not gone off the air for 15 years. Where would Doctor Who be now if that had happened? Would we still have the same actors and writers and stories we got starting in 2005? Would the Doctor be beyond the 13th incarnation? Would the movie with Paul McGann have been made? Or that terrible “children in need special” in 1993?

i got so excited by the thumbnail, i thought they’d brought him back for the new series. but then i realised they can’t☹️

IMHO, this episode was a better salute / tip of the hat to The Brigadier & Nicholas Courtney than New Who's TV Episode Death in Heaven, during Peter Capaldi's era. Even the scene during Matt Smith's era of The Brigadier's passing or his time on The Sarah Jane Adventures made better use of the character & actor.

Apparently the Brigadier was meant to have appeared in series 4 during The Sontaran two parter. Instead it was mentioned that he was stuck in Peru.
