Sad part about Tavington is that American revolutionaries behaved more like him than any British Officer or Soldier. Thousands of Loyalist fled the continent out of fear of The revolutionist after the war ended. It is a part of the revolution we Americans like to gloss over and ignore sadly. Loyalist didn't flee because they were loyal to Britain and refused ot live in the Colonist afterwards, but because of the way loyalist were treated during the war, many were forced out of their homes, some even murdered.
They didn't flee the continent altogether. Most went to Canada, which explains why the Canadian militia (composed of Loyalists or descendants of Loyalists) were so eager to fight tooth and nail to resist the US invasion in 1812. And resist, they succeeded in doing so.
Yeah don't forget independence declaration happened cos a bunch of colonial elites didn't wanna pay her Majesty's tax for tea after benefiting from England's govt expenditure for 100-150 years. :)
The problem was taxation without representation. They wanted representation in British Parliament which the King refused to give them. And from there all of us know the history.
For God's sake this man is so hot. It's like he is born for this role. Jason Isaacs as Colonel William Tavington is definitely my favourite villain. I wanted Tavington to survive and kill Martin 😂😂 Even though I knew it wouldn't happen
Tavington is the fictional name for the character for the film it was based on Colonel Banastre Tarleton that was is real name a street in Liverpool,England called,Tarleton Steet is named after him in is Honour where he was from.
People forget, no one lost or won this war, an agreement was made hense why America has so many UK city names, even with Frances help it was silly to think they did amazing against a handful of British redcoats. If full forces were sent story would be different but England had handfuls scattered world wide, the size of the UK is underestimated, but it's strategic positioning and its power is over looked, imagine if the UK was the size of Germany 🤔
And aid from France, even then for the size of UK to hold as well as they did is unbelievable strength against two countries twice its size, if UK had a island the size of France no one would compete with Britain
I have only one quibble. No, it's not the plot. If I want historical accuracy, I'm not going to watch The Patriot and here Jason Isaacs plays a Pantomime villain with real style. ( Oh yes he does! ) It's that bloody awful accent. I'd like him to redo the dialogue using the accent he used when he played George Zhukov in The Death of Stalin ( Please watch it if you haven't yet). Tarleton was from Liverpool. The world famous Scouse accent wasn't a thing back then and the regional accent would've been Lancashire. Perhaps more Arthur Askey than Rob Wilton though. I thank you all...
