The Brittas Empire is a British sitcom made and initially composed by Andrew Norriss and Richard Fegen. Chris Barrie played Gordon Brittas, the good natured yet clumsy administrator of Whitbury New Town Leisure Center.
The show kept running for seven arrangement and 53 scenes - including two Christmas specials - from 1991 to 1997 on BBC1. Norriss and Fegen composed the initial five arrangement, after which they cleared out the appear.

Mmm, completely forgot it existed but seeing it mow makes me think it must have been quite influential on Steve Coogan and Alan Partridge... practically the same character, just Partridge isn't hammed up as much.

You know, when I was younger I watched the show and laughed at how annoying Gordon was, now 20 years on, he warms my heart even though he’s a blithering idiot. He always cares. That’s important. He’d take a bullet for any of his staff, and throughout the seasons they show the staff realise that and treat him well…. Sometimes. It’s funny how differently the show affects me these days.

Most probably one of the last few true classics on tv. Nothing on tv can really ever be called a classic now days, even in years to come. Nothing like the 60,s 70,s 80,s and the 90,s.

I was quite young when this came out, so never really watched it. But watching it back, it's intriguing to see the character "Mr Brittas". The smile from the crying reception lady had me laughing out loud haha. He is kind of like a cross between Kenneth Williams in the Carry on Movies and Harry Enfield's "You don't want to do that" character.

What's strange is that I like Chris in this, but Red Dwarf just doesn't seem that funny to me. I haven't known anyone EXACTLY like Gordon Brittas, but have known many people who are quite close, that is people in " power " who are detrimental to the workings of their surroundings...and continually promoted so as to make them someone else's problem. Like the many different actors and characters they play.

It's a credit to Chris that he can play both but I had the exact opposite reaction. Red Dwarf never did it for me, wondered what the fuss was about but I love this show.

Where I work, we have a store manager who is very much like Brittas. He means well, but often makes the situation worse.
