For the houses in Madness places it could have been useful to check out the heirs too -usually they're the same house but not always. I think it may have counted the Create agent Masterfully as applying the curses again.
Levelling up a stat will give a bonus - e.g Bonus: Might. It looks like this counts as a modifier rather than a natural stat for the purposes of twisting flesh, meaning that you can't twist flesh from someone if the only stats above 1 come from level increases - similar to if the stat increase came from an item.
