Sorry for being a bit late. I always loved the metallix and how they made him and the brotherhood such a big deal. It is way better than the way he is treated nowadays, only being included as a fan favourite and therefore has slowly lost his impact. Great video as usual
Metallix was one of STC's best decisions. I've always liked the idea of Metal Sonic evolving beyond the limitations of what Eggman could do. For me it was like the way Shockwave was presented in the Transformers comics: A frighteningly competent and well-composed figure who was arguably scarier than Megatron, and had none of ol' Buckethead's rapidly growing instability. Eggman is a very flawed character, he always has been. His ego and short-sightedness often eclipse his intellect and he'll quite regularly sow the seeds of his own downfall. Whether it's the Game Eggman's self-defeating lack of forethought or Archie Eggman's exaggerated cruelty and belief in his own hype, or IDW Eggman's... all of the above, Eggman's weaknesses are rather apparent. He's a very... emotional character. So having Metal Sonic as a counterpoint to that really works for me. He's cold, calm, calculated, there's no nonsense when he shows up, no boss mechs with giant glowing weak spots or weapons that do just as much damage to Eggman himself as they do to Sonic, every fight with him is a struggle to _survive,_ because unlike basically every other antagonist, Metal is Sonic's outright superior. He's faster, stronger, he can fly and use a wide variety of energy weapons, and it's all contained within a metal body that is itself an inherent advantage. The Brotherhood of the Metallix are the apex of that idea, and it's kinda disappointing to see modern media so rarely ever get close to the idea. Modern Metal as the silent, loyal servant of his creator is just so... boring.
Sonic Heroes does it pretty well too. Every group had to go on an adventure that relates to Eggman in some way like challenging Sonic to fight him, or Amy's team trying to find their missing friends. Only for the Chaotix to find out that Eggman has actually been held captive by Metal Sonic who was manipulating everyone so he can analyze their data to be able to defeat them all
IDW Metal Sonic isn't so bad. Yeah, he's loyal to Eggman, but during that first story arc he still has a certain level of autonomy and own personal thoughts not too unlike how he was in Sonic Heroes. I very much would like to see that sort of Metal Sonic again in IDW or the games down the line; A mechanized rival for Sonic that is ever so loyal to the Doctor but is still capable of speaking for themselves, along with possessing a sense of ingenuity when it comes to their approach.
@@LupinticDream Like I said, pre unleash metal, that version can work well, bit they don't treat him like a threat anymore, he just another Eggman badnick.
We always like the idea of Brotherhood of Metallix. Like the idea of a cult like group made entirely of robots always was a cool idea to us. We also always like the design of the Emperor Metallix, it take design from Metal Sonic Kai but makes it it's own.
The thing I love about the Brotherhood is that expand the concept of Metal Sonic of being a superior Sonic. Even predates Metal Sonic becomes the main villain on Sonic Heroes.
I remember browsing early Internet forums and seeing Metal Sonic referred to as "Metallix". I called him by this for YEARS thinking it was his "official" name. I guess this is why!
2:39 I always imagined Metal Sonic sounding like that robotic text to speech voice which was heard in Sonic CD's Japanese Metallic Madness Bad Future music track which you actually used in this video. The more I learn about the Fleetway comics the more I realize that you Britain's got a much better comic adaptation than the American Archie comic. It stuck much closer to the game elements and the art was a lot more consistent and much better in my opinion. Sonic's snark was also rather abrasive yet funny at the same time. 3:52 He called Amy a professional hostage when she was kidnapped again 😆
It was the third time she used as a hostage. The first time when she said she was Sonic's girlfriend lead to her having to join the Freedom Fighters. The second time she was kidnapped by Sky Pirates till she managed to convince the Sky Pirate Captain Plunder and Sonic that it was better to work with each other against Robotnik.
I always love these STC videos they give me so much nostalgia & you really do a great job documenting the comic's obscure characters and stories ( I was so happy to see Turbo referenced in the last video). My favorite Sonic character is Metal Sonic (But he'll always be Metallix to me) lol!
I was literally thinking about this in my mind, this was amazing to hear. I just like the way how the brotherhood of Metallix is presented so well in the comics.
I really like mettalix, he looks like a bad guy you wouldn't wanna mess with. Also the fact that he is red instead of blue makes him stand out even more, I'm glad they brought back the concept for sonic mania's metal sonic 1st fight.
Emperor Metallix, the Brotherhood and their conversion of the Miracle planet is one of those things that stuck with me creatively well into adulthood. Oh poor Porker.
I always loved Mecha Sonic as a character and sewing fleetway gave him a badass story makes me happy af!! So glad I could see Metallix from SMBZ in this video too!! he alongside Nazo are my fave Sonic villains even if they are not official 🤩
In the fleetway comic Sonic and Amy have both used guns only when they had no other option like Knuckles in this story. Usually Amy uses her Crossbow or her bow.
Emperor Metallix: I need name for my brotherhood... robots are made of steel so... Brotherhood of Stee- Arch Dornan: *cracks power armor covered knuckles* Emperor Metallix: BROTHERHOOD OF METALLIX! YEP! BROTHERHOOD OF METALLIX THATS IT!
I’d love to see 2 separate videos all about Johnny Lightfoot and Porker Lewis. (One of each character) since they where main characters of the comic from what you’ve shown so far.
I did not know about this story arc since i haven't even read fleetway Sonic but this video kept me intrigued and interested about the Metallix brotherhood, i love how fleetway included both the good future and the bad future of the Sonic CD game in ONE arc, it totally makes sense during the story and also it gives a purpose to little planet always coming back every month/few months in canon, the only time a Sonic media ever acknowledged that fact was Sonic 4 Episode 2
@@JohnnyVector Maybe you can make a video about how Sonic CD influenced other media like in the comics? It would be an interesting video for sure, but for now, the fleetway videos are so good and interesting!
British comic, a machine that travels through time and soace, evil cult of destruction obessed robot army who shout exterminate. The Brotherhood if Metalix😊 is a giant Dr.Who reference!
The Brotherhood may have been inspired by the Daleks but damn, they where FAR MORE SCARY than them, mainly because they didnt look like fecking pepper grinders!! :D
Personally when I think of Metal Sonic's voice I believe he's either mute,or has a cryptic tts voice, but no voice that just has a robotic effect,so not like gamma's voice in Sonic X
I imagine he sounds like Neo Metal Sonic in Sonic Heroes. Ryan Drummond's performance will always be the voice I hear when I imagine Metal Sonic speaking
Can you make a video about Tekno the Canary? I want to know about her, as she will be one of the main characters in the upcoming fan animated film "Sonic Villains".
Did you heard about pseudo sonic he is actually as Sonic the Hedgehog tycoon group use in the top tunes and some of the tummy bug back then well only 3 timer books
Will they just do the original Metallix or will do Metallix Mark 2 (Mecha Sonic), Emperor Metallix, Porker Metallix, the Pirate Omni-Viewer and Metallix Mark 3 (Knuckles Metallix)?
You should do a video on Metamorphia. You've mentioned her briefly before but you never went into detail too much. She might not have a big impact or following but I always liked her cause she's one of the more unique reoccurring characters. (Also awesome video as usual. Had the feeling you'd do Emperor Metallix eventually)
They've toyed with the idea a couple of times, like with the final boss of Sonic Heroes, but I prefer the look of Emperor Metallix to the more monstrous Metal transformations SEGA have given us.
@@JohnnyVector I know and with robotnik In the Sonic 2 movie gaining similar powers from the Master emerald in the recent trailer I think it's more relevant than ever.
I recently blasted through the fleetway comics for the first time, and yes it was because of fleetway super sonic from the fnf mod, and this storyline had me losing my mind. Every page i was going WHAT? WHAT?!?!? It was truly a wild ride and super cool. When i read in the encylo-speed-ia that the metal sonic fight was inspired by the arc, it made me so happy to see!! Also as any characters itd be cool for you to cover, it'd be awesome if you could cover Tekno? Especially since Nigel Kitsching gave her and amy a romantic ending via an epilogue for sonic the comic online. It really put Tekno and Amy's adventures into a new light for me, and itd be awesome to see that talked about. Tekno might be my favorite sonic comic character, only tied with tangle and whisper.
The first issue I ever bought was the issue when the door destroys metal knuckles ironically year's later it was also the last issue I ever bought too.
I love hearing about the STC comics I read as a kid. Any chance Johnny Vector that you would do a video on Johnny Lightfoot or the other Freedom Fighters like Amy, Tails, Porker, Shorty/Shortfuse, Tekno or Sonic.
To this day that panel of Sonic and Metallix tearing up the environment while Amy tries to watch is one of my favourite comic scenes. Art is fantastic and the energy it gives of was like nothing I'd ever seen at the time. Nothing really came close until years later when we finally got Dragon Ball Z here in the UK.
you know what. i plan on writing a story where emperor metallix is the villian. may include hyper sonic cause that hasnt had a modern apperence (i aint sellin it cause sega would sue my ass but still)
Thanks for making me sad I didn't read this lmao. Jokes aside I just love how you explain this. It's so interesting and makes me want to buy Fleetway Comics off of anything I can get my hands on. Then again I could only get my hands on Archie, even though I'm british. That's how harsh 2022 is. 💀
The converted Miracle Planet reminds me of Apocalypse, the home world of Darkseid from DC comics; those fire pits are one its most defining traits. It looks like Fleetway's team drew inspiration from comic history from both sides of the pond
Well I guess we shouldn't have given Shadow such a hard time cuz Knuckles was and his bro were packing HEAT way before that game... 😰😰😰 Are we sure this wasn't made in America??? Why gun??? Why????
It’s important to note that the Metallix seen in Super Mario Bros. Z is functionally just Turbo Mecha Sonic. I assume the change was made because the sprite used fits the reboot’s better animation more than the Mecha Sonic sprite.
I loved the Fleetway comics, had a nearly complete collection of them when I was younger, until it was thrown away by my mother when I was away on a camping trip I thought the stories were fairly interesting and were often a lot darker than is seen in other parts of sonic
“Metal sonic is the best metallix” Aww hell naw, that would be mecha sonic MK3 because he was in a certain Mario web series that may or may not have the best animated fights ever made
Given the fact that the X-Men cartoon was being shown during the years STC was released and especially during the time the Brotherhood of Metallix was around, there very likely might've been some inspiration from Master Mold aswell since he does appear in the X-Men cartoon.
I don't know what happened to all my sonic the comic, but i did read all the issues with the Brotherhood Of Metallix. I did just find an old issue with King Sonic recently, but it's in rough condition.
