There is absolutely no doubt that Buddy would have been a massive, world famous, rock n roll star, his music has stood the test of time, and his influence is still being felt today. He was a natural talent, and born to be a star!

Brings chill to me. I actually remember the horrible news come over the radio or tv about the plane crash. My older brother came into the room and said they are all dead to my parents. My Mum asked who and that was history. I was nearly 5 years old and I remember feeling so sad that all these people died in a plane crash. I did not know at the time or understand how the loss would impact on the world of music.RIP to them all.

I absolutely love this film watched it many times again and again over the years, I wasn't alive when Buddy was alive and died. Found him when I was 15 in 1987...I think he's one of the greatest losses in music of his time and it would have been an honour to have been alive when he was, I absolutely love him. His music will always live on. There is a few greatest musician losses in the world and Buddy was definitely one of them. Genius, talented young man so glad I came across him.

I'm the same age as you. I love Buddy Holly's music. This Film is so emotive, I cried from when he boarded the bus, to go on Tour! I knew nothing about his private life. He was so young when he died. And his wife lost the baby, after finding out he'd died by watching it on the TV News. There are no words. A huge, tragic waste of a very Talented guy. Great Film!

Lots of conjecture here about what he should have done, but the truth was Buddy was tired of the whole tour, and especially trying to sleep on that bus, especially since nearly everyone had a mild form of influenza, so he hired a small plane to fly himself to the next tour spot so he could rest in a proper bed for one night, He invited JP Richardson (the Big Bopper) to share the ride with him, and as there was an extra seat it was offered to Richie Valens. Well tragedy struck the plane, and the rest is Rock n' Roll history. Really that tour shouldn't have been organized at that time of the year, but later when the weather was better for touring.
@C21L01
@C21L01 5 лет назад
And if they'd booked in at a warm motel for the night and flew out the next morning in the clear, they might've still been alive the following night too. Hindsight is always 20-20. Without knowing what fate held for that plane, on Feb 2nd 1959: What would you have preferred? Freezing your bum off for another night on a stuffed bus or a seat in that plane and a warm bed to sleep in? Given the chance, anyone is going to pick a warm bed and some decent sleep over trying to sleep in subzero temperatures on a freezing cold bus. On more than one occasion during that tour, the performers were in and out of hospital with everything ranging from colds and flu to frostbite injuries to the extremities.

I was a child in the 1950s and well remember this kind of music being played on the radio. My brother, 9 years older than me, loved it, mum accepted it, but dad despised it with a vengeance! :0) Until then I had enjoyed listening with him to his classical music records but, bearing in mind I was only 6 at the time, I sided with him, until I felt my brother's passion for it. Tommy Steele, Marty Wilde, Elvis, Billy Fury, Cliff, Del Shannon, Eddie Cochran etc and, of course, Buddy Holly. It was a wonderful time.

Nice movie about Buddy Holly. Good Job done by Gary Busey. But as always in movies only a few episodes from Buddy's life, often not correct. But Buddy would have enjoyed the sound of his songs in the movie, which was far better than in the fifties .When Norman Petty in 1963 pimped Buddy's Brown Eyed Handsome Man with the new guitars of the Fireballs, it went straight to the top of the British Charts. Anyway...seems like the role of Petty is completely ignored in this movie. Nevertheless a nice movie about a Pioneer of Rock'n Roll. He and Eddie Cochran prepared the way for the music and the groups of the sixties.

Funny how Columbia spent a lot to create the 56 vibe but could not get hold of a correct era Fender amp and guitar. As a guitarist, that hurts

Found Gary Busey less than convincing as Buddy but tough boots to fill. Buddy was not a geeky moron as portrayed. He was a sensitive & shy kind of guy but his passion for his music came over in his simple sweet songs & the energy he put into them. I was 13 years old when I first heard Peggy Sue & That'll be the day. I was hooked immediately. When he came to England I was mortified that I was not allowed to attend his concerts because I was too young in my parent's opinion. Saw him on Sunday night at the London Palladium & was blown away. It's hard to describe the impact of his music at the time. Rock'n'roll was a breath of fresh air in the age of crooners & pop schmaltz. His songs were the soundtrack of my youth & his death a year later was devastating. So sad he was forced to take that fateful tour because of his manager's shenanigans & his need for money demanded by his recent marriage. A tragic loss...

I think he's portrayed as anything BUT a geeky moron. Busey's Holly is tough, confident, smart, headstrong, witty..exactly like the real Buddy was. Go take it up with Jerry Allison, much of Busey's performance was informed by the time he spent with the drummer preparing to play him in the original first-draft film.

Anyone else think Sol Gittler is Paul McCartney's fat grumpy doppelganger? The Ghost Of McCartney Future in 1978. Maybe that was his big problem with the film..

There is a serious error. The guitar the actor uses in the film is a 68's stratocaster with rosewood fretboard. Instead, Buddy holly in 68 had already died, 10 years before. He used a 57 with maple fretboard.

I'm starting to think the prop people might have had a hard time chasing down the right style of guitar and due to budget restrictions, just got what was available. That's been known to happen with movies from time to time.
