As Tony Stark said, "They say that the best weapon is the one you never have to fire. I respectfully disagree. I prefer the weapon you only have to fire once."

I know someone who was in the ground forces on the leading edge of Desert Storm. They were overrun... with Iraqi soldiers holding their weapons over their heads yelling the only English they knew "Ehm ahr ee." They hadn't been resupplied in over 3 weeks and would have sold their own grandma for an MRE. They weren't prepared to deal with entire battalions surrendering for food.

I believe Canada had a solution for that in one of the World Wars.

And this was after freaking Operation Praying Mantis! Like bro really looked at what the US _Navy_ alone did to Iran's navy in 8hrs and now with the World after him, dude really said, "Nah, I'd win."

A friend of mine was an Army Ranger in that war and he said that highway looked like the name they gave it. He also said that they almost no resistance. The Iraqi soldiers weren’t just surrendering, they were praising George Bush.

The poor british found themselves in so many friendly fire situations during desert storm that they had to fly the union jack over their tanks just to try an avoid being shot at by friendlies again. Other than that, from what I have researched, desert storm went flawlessly.

Another prime example why the us doesn't have free health care you dont get the championship belt cheaply.
@Wicked_Knight
@Wicked_Knight 6 месяцев назад
Well the US does, but qualifying for it is hell and its basically like the UKs NHS but worse because finding a health care provider who will accept it is nearly impossible, and when you do it can be several months before you can be seen. Trust me, it's not worth it if your really care about your health.

Desert Storm was nuts, but you are wrong that it was unprecedented in terms of aerial campaign. In 1967, the Six Day War between Israel and Egypt, Jordan and Syria was actually the prototype for Desert Storm. The IDF's Operation Focus was pretty much the first implementation of shock and awe with an aerial campaign to take out an enemy air force (or forces, as it were--80% of the Egyptian, Jordanian and Syrian air forces and all of their air bases were dead in the first day) and the US modeled what we did after the unmitigated success of that operation. If you're interested the "Kings and Generals" channel did a good short video on that operation titled "Six-Day War (1967) - Third Arab-Israeli War." You'll notice that the air campaign is almost exactly what the US pulled off in Desert Storm, but we used more cruise missiles by proportion of strikes. You're right about us developing bigger better bombs. If the need arises, we can jury-rig some truly horrifying things on pretty short order. It's just, the MIC needs feeding, so that fast turnaround typically only takes place if absolutely necessary.

You should watch The Operations Room's breakdown of the air and ground wars for Desert Storm, they go into fantastic detail the sheer scale of it. Not as jokey as TFE, but extremely informative, with very nice graphics.

9:24 If you think that's crazy, you should check out photos and videos of British workers filling the Tallboy and Grand Slam bombs with liquid Torpex. They literally had to do with buckets, with the Grand Slam having a total explosive mass of 9,200 lb.
@RedSampler

I love how Stormin Norman gets all the credit for rolling 10s of thousands of troops through a waste land that Collin Powell had already destroyed a week earlier.

To my understanding the Gulf War was done at such a hot and heavy level as to not seem like the US was involving itself in another Vietnam. Makes you then think maybe if the US went as hard into Vietnam as they did into Iraq, the Vietnam war would’ve had a different outcome

If anyone wants a look into Desert Storm I absolutely recommend The Operations Room on RU-vid. They do animated videos on various wars and battles, and did multiple parts on the Air and Ground campaigns. It really puts into perspective at just the sheer amount of bullshit the US and Coalition bodyslammed into Iraq back then. They're really good videos.

Literally, the last thing you want America to do is improvise. Whatever the issue, it will get done, it will be horrifyingly effective, and it will cause Geneva to have a new convention. But yeah, all you really need to do to get something militarily developed is give some beer to a bunch of grunts and farmers and give them a barebones plan. It'll happen. It won't be pretty, it'll have bugs and issues, but by the time those matter everyone on the opposing side will already be dead, so...

Sure, going from nothing to bunker-buster in 3 weeks is impressive, but they should've just asked the British. We could've had some in-theater within 3 DAYS. We've had the GrandSlam in stock since WW2, 22,000lbs of hardened steel & Torpex, already proven to punch through 16 feet of reinforced concrete, or 75 feet of soil. One of Barnes Wallis' ideas, he called it the Earthquake bomb. Look it up...
