@@Greg-re7nj No. Adrienne Barbeau played Carol in Maude. This Carol (Marcia Rodd) also appeared in the episode where she dumps her son on Mike (there were in a relationship prior to Gloria) and she had the audacity to blame Archie and Mike for calling her out as a horrible mother which she was.
50 years on and Carroll O'Connor is still hilarious. Guaranteed that people will appreciate his genius and still find him funny in 100 years. He is among a very tiny group of 20th century performers about whom that could be said.
I know a lot of people give Nornan Lear a lot of credit, and rightly so. But a lot of the credit should also go to the WRITERS AND THE ACTORS. It starts with good writing and secondly good ACTORS to bring the writing to life. Oh how I missed good shows like this one. May they R.I.P. 5/29/2023
And for good reason. But in this pilot (effectively, anyway), that's not Barbeau. Different actress. Not as attractive or as...uh...top heavy, shall we say?
One day my brother famously said "I hate Maude." I replied "good, as you aren't supposed to like her." You could have heard a pin drop. Somehow the villain housewife model worked.
I liked Marsha Rodd in the role of Carol. I wonder why she wasn't retained for the series. I adore Adrienne Barbeau, however, I felt that Bea Arthur and Marsha Rodd had better on-screen chemistry. Rodd's portrayal of Carol indicated that she and Maude had similar personality traits, whereas Barbeau's portrayal really showcased a stark difference between the 2 of them, which to be fair, I suppose the writers thought would be more interesting.
Archie Bunker is just a Regular-American who would rather remain within his limitations. One can easily guess at it simply by listening between the dialogue.
Originally telecast on March 11, 1972. CBS executive Fred Silverman insisted Bea Arthur return for another episode after seeing her first appearance in "Maude Comes To Visit" the previous December....because he smelled a possible spin-off {"Who IS that woman???", he exclaimed. "She's like Jackie Gleason!!!! *BRING HER BACK!!!!!!"}.* Norman Lear didn't want to bring her back, but Silverman insisted.......and this episode was the result. And he got his spin-off the following season.
Funny fact: Bea Arthur was in the Marine Corps and got an NJP for getting a venereal disease. Now with that face and voice, someone must have been really drunk or in the middle of a slump.
@@natalieGilmore-je4ld non-judicial punishment. She did something wrong, at that time, by getting an STD, and was punished outside of a court marshal. Usually it includes restriction to the base, money taken away, and maybe a loss of rank depending on the severity of what the service member did.
Surely you jest. Archie was the epitome of trash. His entire persona was a sexist bitchy selfish man who finally met someone who had zero tolerance for him, when Maude came around. The fact you completely ignore him, and choose to not like her strength, exposes your weak morals.
