The Burning (1981) 4K UHD Review - The MOST Worth It Scream Factory UPGRADE! 

I remember when one of my favorite video stores was closing down in the late '90s, I paid over a hundred dollars for "The Burning" on VHS, thinking the movie would never see the light of day on DVD. How times have changed. Back then, movies like "Black Christmas" and "Re-Animator" were impossible to find. So glad these films are getting the exposure and restorations they deserve.

I hope they release the sleepaway camp trilogy on 4k

You should always want to upgrade to 4k. It sucks when they do it months apart. But if it's years then you shouldn't be pissed to get a better looking movie

Just watched it for the first time, I thought it was ok, not great but still fun. More of a streaming movie for me over getting the 4k.

I've got the old DVD. Maybe i'll buy the 4K

I watched this movie a couple of times on cable back in the day. If I remember correctly it was virtually a rip off of Friday the 13th. Loving this channel!

The Burning Is one of My favorite 80s Horror Movies for sure

I got this on bluray about 10 years ago after it was released. Recall being surprised to see Jason Alexander, and it's probably the only time I've ever seen him with hair Lol! Fisher Stevens i believe was the villain guy from Hackers and the Indian guy from the Short Circuit movies where he brownfaced himself and actually put on a very believable Indian-American accent. I have to rewatch this bc i honestly dont remember it that well.

I first found this movie around 2006 while watching one of Tom Savini’s documentaries. I believe he skipped F13 part 2 to do The Burning. Cropsey was an urban legend of Staten Island through the 1970's-80's. Cropsey was attributed to the disappearances of many children, until it was determined that Cropsey was an actual serial killer and kidnapper.

I only have about 5 Scream Factory titles on Blu-ray and was bummed out that I missed quite a few titles that I wanted and now I’m extremely happy that I did miss out on so many. While I won’t upgrade the 5 titles I already have I will now happily buy the remaining ones I want on 4K. It’s a win win for me.

Discovered this movie in the early 80's. My mum finally bought a vhs player. She was a single mum with not a lot of money. Anyway, here in the the UK it had a side profile of cropsy burning on the cover. It's been my favorite slasher ever since. It was really brutal at the time. Forgot to say, I bought this for £10 at a local video store in 1984. Looking back, I think the store had to sell them off because it had been banned and it was the full uncut version. It was in one of them big vhs cases.

Im not saying i won’t eventually get this but I won’t be pre ordering or day 1 buying anything scream factory anymore. Ill be scooping these rereleases on some sales, getting way too expensive to be doing it otherwise.

To some point I like this more then the first Friday the 13th movie. i have the Arrow blu ray but waiting for this one.

BTW. SF should give a better packaging, at least what they the few 4K halloween movies with the hard carboard cover with what they charge. if other boutique labels can do it, then they can.

I have the Arrow, I keep due the I love the Arrow new artwork.

I do not own a 4K TV yet. But I buy these 4K discs to future proof my collection. Also, these Blurays with 4K scans look amazing by themselves.

The burning is worth owning on 4k

I love this movie, I referenced it a lot in my Camp Slashers video. It’s got more camp atmosphere than a lot of Friday the 13th films and I really appreciate it for that.

Just finished watching it - WOW. Been watching The Burning since the days of video and always loved it but this is the best experience I've had with it - play it loud!

Scream Factory is doing ok. They haven’t really screwed anything up since the Dead Silence cases.

I first saw The Burning on VHS and liked it a lot. Little while later I got the Venezuelan VHS and wow the American Thorn/Emi version is edited. For decades this Venezuelan VHS was my preferred version. Then the DVD came out and it was the uncut version finally. Bro I just got the Blu-Ray a little while ago and now the 4K?🙉 I'll buy it anyway because I love The Burning and don't mind double dipping. Anyway good review and cool video Ken!👉😃👈

Strange that the disc art on the blu ray seems to feature artwork from what appears to be a deleted scene.

have all 3 releases of this the shout factory, the arrow and the 4k, the 4k gets some things right with much sharper image but they boosted the contrast too much on the colours the skin tones are horrific and people look like tomatoes, the greens and reds can catch the eye but they are overdone to the point it looks artificial, i remember when exorcist 3 came out from shout and arrow on bluray it was a good transfer and people raved about its the way to movie was intended to look but skin tones on those releases were also too red/pink yet still people would argue with god if they could to convince them its ho the movie is suppose to look but a few year later exorcist 3 comes out in 4k and they fixed the colour grade and removed the red push going back to a warmer tone. here is a 35mm trailer of this movie which shows the sky was always white on that kill scene and never blue, plus the greens on the boat match the bluray green not the 4k. as i said the 4k has fantastic sharpness but colours is boosted to the moon giving an artificial processed look, hopefully another 4k will be done by arrow and not shout factory. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Cn2WgkXADYM.html

I always viewed the Burning as Friday light. Half the kills are in one scene, kinda light on action. Overall decent. Not great.

I saw this one way late too, and it didnt hit me the right way the one time i saw it. I'll have to give it another chance too. I love the backwoods film of the era though and again recomend The Final Terror. Another great one is Just Before Dawn, but i thinks its getting a restoration and best to wait.

Received it last week, but keeping my blu ray because of reversible art and slip cover.

I just got a 65 inch QLED 4K tv with Dolby Vision, and the one feature i've been reading up on is the Action Smoothing most newer tv's come with now, that gives stuff the soap opera effect, do you ever use that when watching 4K's or no? i'm kinda torn on it, on one hand it does give alot more depth to the picture and calrity, but on the other it does give it a soap opera kind of look.

Friday the 13th was garbage to begin with so I can only imagine how awful this thing is.

love the artwork and the rick (yes) wakeman score but the movie is a grade Z, slow burn, badly written weinstein horror movie may work if you're inhibited.

It looks like it's worth upgrading my blu-ray for this 4K of the burning. 💀🔥⚔️🏕
