The Bus Driver Should Slam On The Brakes!! 

I only slam on the brakes when it’s the end of the line and I can’t wake up a sleeper in the back. Sends’em straight to the floor or plasters them up against the seat in front of them every time. 🤣

I don't even slam on the brakes when someone pulls out in front of me. I learned something a little thing called "progressive braking" which is something you learn when learning the basics of motorcycle riding. Of course that was before they started putting ABS in motorcycles but I'm old school and still progressive brake. That where you go 5%, 10% 20% straight all the way to 100% breaking power. That gives that tiny little contact patch under the tires time to dig in and get a good grip on the pavement. How does this relate to driving a transit bus? Simple, it gives passengers time and chance to brace themselves and be damnd if the person that pulled out in front of the bus, that's in most cases just 1 person making a stupid move. To quote Mr. Spock 🖖: "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one" I just try to progressive faster and steer away from the danger if possible.

Just stop the bus and tell them to cool it or get off the bus!! Happy Thanksgiving from Milwaukee to all reading this. ❤

As an operator for 19 years in Toronto, I think we should be allowed to carry an air horn, bear spear, and my best friend who is not an operator says a cattle prod. And in regards to the man who was possibly playing his music too loudly, I had one guy just a few days before Xmas (must have been 2016) playing his reggae music so loudly. I asked him to politely turn it down or off as it was too distracting. He said that music was his life and that I'm a "Nazi" as this is his cultural music. I turned on the bus mic and got the most haunting bagpipes over RU-vid and played it. I told him this is my cultural music and to once again please turn it off. He did but he wasn't happy but everyone was laughing. Once he got off everyone including members of his own community were thanking me. 2 wrongs don't make a right but in this instant it did. This job you just have to deal with so much that sometimes you get creative.

You are absolutely correct, slamming on the brakes would have made the situation worse by imperiling the other passengers. That woman was crazy.

dude wtf was that lady DOING? If she was annoyed that the guy was playing music, the incorrect response from her was to become even more of an annoyance to everyone else on the bus. Like...just move to a different seat

Crazy you posted this video. Yesterday I had a man and woman that were causing a distraction. The man was talking to another man then a woman didn’t like the conversation. She started to be a Karen and started getting loud and threatening towards the man. My solution was to pull the bus over, open the doors and I yelled at her to remove herself from the bus. Plan A was successful. Plan B is to call for a road supervisor or a Police officer. In the end it was resolved. One it is distracting for me while driving. Second every passenger is entitled to a quiet* safe ride. I believe she was standing so if had to slam on the brakes it would have sent her flying across the bus. Admittedly there are times when I would love to do a ‘brake check’. As mention there is consequences resulting in drug testing, paperwork, dealing with management and law enforcement. Not worth the hassle or embarrassment.

Sometimes i get tired of hearing loud music being played on the buses myself because I want to listen to the transmission sometimes. I don't agree with the lady doing that to this guy because what if he had a weapon on him or something but i understand her frustration so i don't blame her for irritating him at all. I don't get involved with breaking up fights at all, i just called dispatch and the local polices.

I had a guy who absolutely had to be in front of me yesterday. So he sped past me in the left lane which I needed to be in. This was fine with me as the guy in front of me had no place to be apparently. After speedy got by me I merged over. Only to find he wasn’t in so much of a hurry anymore and decided to slam on the brakes for a pedestrian approaching the cross walk at a busy 2 lane road. I stopped within an inch of his Cadillac. Only person affected thankfully was my co-worker. And even then she was fine. People do the dumbest things in their cars. Most of it can be predicted but sometimes, not even a psychic could help out. 😂

What kind of behavior is that ....

I def do not do the following: turn off the interior lights of the bus and wait for people to calm down and/or step off the bus, walk about 20 feet away, and stare back with hatred at people. then get back on after cooling down for 30 seconds. Def never have done that one.... Love the content fr. Peace

I really want to ask bus drivers a question, what are your favorite bus fleets y'all like to drive the most?? My hometown up in Houston, we have NABIs, New Flyers and Novas. I also like to visit San Antonio, Dallas and Austin because of their bus fleets.

I know it can be very annoying having loud passengers on the bus but please fellow drivers, how tempting it is: NEVER SLAM THE BRAKES! Unless it's an actual emergency though. The forces that get released when slamming the brakes can cause serious harm to your passengers and mostly it affects the passengers that didn't have anything to do with it! Drive safely fellow drivers.

She looked like she'd be a quiet passenger but I guess she got pushed over the edge. People blasting their music on their phones is annoying is hell though. But her reaction was over the top. Not good to slam on the brakes. It could hurt people. Only when it's necessary to avoid an accident. Happened to me once about 6 years ago, car pulled in front of the bus and came within inches of hitting the car. Needless to say it was an incident and the police had to show up and a report filed, bus was taken OOS and we had to wait an hour for the next bus. The car driver was on their phone, of course.

@3:40 that's a big difference, when I moved from the US to Canada, I noticed countries outside the US just don't drug test. This is a US thing. Even if you're in trouble here, a drug test wouldn't be on the list. Maybe a spot sobriety test if something is suspected while driving by an officer, but nothing from the company. For your international viewers, they'll be like "only in the US..."

Although slamming on the brakes is not a good idea I would’ve preferred. How do you stopped the bus somewhere and just said OK we’re not going anywhere until the situation is resolved.

I deal with a lot of weed smokers on the cta trains when I'm driving especially the Red, Blue and Green Lines.

Call the cops for a drug affected passenger who is a danger to your other passengers including women and children. They will be there quick (should be)

Music is not allowed on the bus, I would have told the guy to turn it off long before she started howling and if he refused, I'd have him removed and tagged by transit police.

While most of us operators do try to avoid slamming on the brakes, it is necessary at times to avoid head-on collisions from cars randomly cutting us off, passengers not paying attention, etc. It’s preferable than getting into an accident.

There’s what we WANT to do and what we know would get us fired.

Back when I was high school taking a bus ride there. We were in a situation where the bus driver had to slam on his brakes because the car in front of us thought it was a good idea to brake check a bus. Like bro?!? I never had to flippin do that on my routes not yet nor do I want to.

I enjoy the lady hollering at the guy for irritating those passengers on the bus playing his music without headphones, whenever I take public transportation and i want to play my music, i used my headphones and I turn it down so only i could hear my music only. I don't drive but I don't agree b/o slamming on bus because there could be other motorist behind it can crush onto bus or if that happened on highway, it would be dangerous for b/o to stop suddenly.
