The Vaara is a traditional Puukko knife made by Ahti in Finland.
It is a very light knife of only 92 grams, with a 9.5 cm blade made of carbon steel (80crv2, or L2) full-tang, a curly birch handle and a brass guard.
The sheath is classic, made of leather (friction retention), with a plastic insert, and a dangler. the retention is good, but the design makes me doubt its durability.
The excellent ergonomics and the very high Scandinavian grind make it an exceptional and comfortable slicer, especially for woodcarving.
Its very hard quenching makes the edge of the blade very resistant, but also potentially a little fragile (brittle). It is therefore a knife that must be cared for, and avoid bumping the edge against hard materials (pebbles)!
Ahti Varaa is in my opinion the bushcraft knife par excellence, not to be missed for lovers of tradition, but also performance: the bite of the blade is simply worthy of a lightsaber! :)
Regarding the price (about 70 euros), it seems reasonable given the quality of manufacture, manpower, and the millennial tradition that this knife represents.
I recommend this knife!
