From the moment you decide to sell your work you are officially in the "Business" of being an artist. Success or failure depends on whether you direct your efforts in the right direction at the right time.
After a 20 year career as a successful artist I am changing my focus to sharing how what I have learned can help other aspiring artists achieve their dreams.
I am presenting a Live Webinar on Zoom on September 21st 2020 from noon to 4:00 pm Eastern Standard Time.

Solid investment in yourself, and your art career. This was such a great webinar. You will be able see what your gaps are, if you are honest in answering the questions. There is nothing like what Tim is offering -

I have been directing people to check out your youtube videos. This is the perfect introductory video. I can tell you put a lot into it, well done.I feel like I want to create just watching it. I love the new format. It is so inspiring to know an artist who is able to make art a full time career. I have watched all your vidoes and have a path mapped out. Taking it one baby step at a time till my body of work is large enough. I think sell high quality geeclays will be one of the keys to success. Thanks for genuinely sharing what you have learned with me.

Shona Ranae Savage hi Shona 😊🙏 thanks so much for taking the time to comment. So glad you love the new format😁😁😁 I love the way it looks and it is the perfect way for me to do longer more in depth presentations. It keeps me on track while allowing me to Adlib and it breaks up the monotony of just a head and shoulders shot of me talking . Cheers Tim

Please don’t disqualify conceptual artists. It shows a fundamental lack of knowledge and understanding of art. Not all art is about selling. If a piece of art is difficult for you, take the time to understand why it is considered to be great. There is no excuse for not taking the time to learn about art. Take some courses at your local university. Take some art history books out from the library. I also don’t think that people should discount those who don’t know much about art but know what they like, but art isn’t just about creating pretty pictures.

PrimalCircus I love these types of comments because it provides a teachable moment. Not for the person who made the comment but for those who follow me and who read it and are interested in my response. Let’s look at the commenter’s statement that that the fact that I don’t appreciate post modernism and conceptual art means that I show a “fundamental lack of knowledge and understanding of art”... with the suggestion that I take a course or read a book. The arrogance and hubris displayed in this statement is not surprising because it is the usual fallback position of proponents of Post Modernism...To suggest that if one doesn’t appreciate it... it is because one is not smart enough or educated enough to “understand” it. To be clear I did in fact study art in college... the books and articles that I have read about art would make a stack from floor to ceiling several times. I have even gone to the trouble of studying Post Modernism philosophy and reading the works of its originators... So I “understand” the philosophy. I “understand” the arguments about why a urinal or a meat dress or an effigy of Jesus in a vat of urine should be considered great art. I also totally disagree with and reject those arguments as having any validity. I reserve the right to decide for myself to decide what I think is great art... as I think each person should. The urge to create art and to appreciate art has been a part of the human condition since we first started painting on caves. Long before university courses in art appreciation came along we as humans made our own decisions about what we found worthy of merit in art just as we did in music, food, perfumes etc... All of the things that tickled our senses. We made our own decisions. In the 50s with the rise of post modernism... a fundamental change began to happen in our universities. Institutes of higher learning’s main purpose up until then had been to teach and encourage people “to think”. That has changed to a situation where professors now believe their job is to teach people “what to think”... a very different proposition and not a change for the better in my opinion. In many cases “what” they are teaching students to think and believe in is the political ideology of post modernism... which is the driving force behind conceptual art. Unfortunately many students blindly believe that if a university professor says something or if it is written in a book it must be true... and the next stage in the cycle is that anyone who disagrees with them isn’t smart enough or educated enough to understand the argument. I don’t think we need to take a university course to “tell” us what music or food we should appreciate... we are quite able to make that decision on our own. Just as we are each able to decide for ourself what we believe is great art. And finally I have a suggestion of my own for the commenter to “read a book”. It is a wonderful tale by Hans Christian Anderson called “The Emperor’s New Clothes.😊

@@timpackerfinearts - Just to clarify; I like your paintings. You are a very good painter. You make beautiful paintings that I am sure many people would want in their homes. Your videos are full of information that is very helpful to anyone who wants a career selling paintings. Your mentoring of Brook has obviously been extremely helpful to her career. After all of the useful, thoughtful information in your videos, I was really surprised to hear you talking about a “loser ideology” when referring to some of the most important artists of our time. Rauschenberg’s White Paintings changed the way people think about art, and influenced John Cage’s groundbreaking 4’ 33”, which changed the way we think about and make music today. You even applied the “loser ideology” to one of Duchamp’s most famous readymades?! Serrano, although arguably not as important as the other two art giants you mentioned, made some really beautiful works using bodily fluids as his medium of choice. Many of the aspiring artists who listen to you would benefit from learning about all of the great artists of our time. You are doing a great disservice to your followers by telling them what to think, especially when it comes to the most important artists of the past century.

PrimalCircus The loser ideology I spoke of is Post Modernism philosophy... which I 100% stand by. The point is that the art village that appreciates that has nothing to do with the art village of commercial sales. That is the village that I and my followers live in and want to succeed in. Confusing what is considered great art in the two different villages is in my opinion the main reason for so many starving artists. And finally... I don’t tell anyone what to think and I encourage everyone to think for themselves and make their own decisions. I really don’t care what any individual believes is great art. But for those that want to make a living as an artist it is important to know what the public appreciates. There is no point in arguing this. Anyone who believes that a urinal is great art is so far removed from my value system that there will never be agreement. It is like arguing which religion is the best.

@@timpackerfinearts You actually did tell your followers what to think. You literally told your followers that Post Modernism is a “loser ideology” in your video and then reiterated it in your response to me. I agree with you about the two very different villages. And, I agree that a urinal, in itself, is not great art - although an argument could be made for form and function in the design. But, Duchamp’s readymades are really not about the object itself. Again, I would suggest anyone who is interested should do some research into all of the artists Tim mentioned in his video in order to make your own mind up about them. I feel for you. I can imagine that going to university and wanting to do landscapes would be very difficult. I had a few friends in university who had the same dilemma. Like them, you likely encountered teachers who were attempting to push you to put high art concepts into your work, or abandon the type of work you wanted to do completely, when you were just interested in learning how to make commercial art. It is unfair, for sure, and can absolutely appreciate what you would have gone through and that the experience probably left a bad taste in your mouth about university and about high art. It is quite likely, as you may have learned the hard way, that university was not the best place for you and might be, in part, the reason you took it upon yourself to mentor like-minded artists. And that is awesome! Commercial artists need a place to go for information on how to succeed and better their art. And, as I said before, you are a talented guy who is doing an invaluable service to your followers in so many ways! My point in this discussion is that you are an influence on your followers and that calling some of the most important artists of the last century “losers” is probably not in the best interest of some of your followers; especially young aspiring artists.

PrimalCircus I told them my opinion... they follow me because they value my opinion. I don’t tell anyone what to believe. Look we obviously disagree on a fundamental level about this. This conversation is pointless. You believe what you believe and I’ll believe what I believe. I am fine with agreeing to disagreeing. You seem obsessed with having me value your view. I don’t. Period. If that offends you I’m afraid that is your problem. I really don’t care what you or anyone thinks about this. You have the right to make your own decisions and come to your own opinions. Please allow those of us who disagree with your point of view the same courtesy.
