Hear! Hear! Angie, you have so much to offer to those that are willing to watch and listen, to even be bothered by the whiners. I personally can't stand when people put paint on good wood. But of the dozen or so projects I've seen you do start to finish, I have zero complaints about your decisions. And even if I did have a complaint, I'd keep it to myself. What you do with your property is up to you. I'm just glad you are sharing your knowledge and talent.
I can't believe the nasty people out there. If they don't like your channel or what you do then they should look elsewhere...geez.....They might feel more powerful saying those things online but to me they are cowards and bullies. I'm here watching so I can learn and keep watching you because I love what you do. Keep it up.

PRO TIP, one way to justify your prices is to ASK your customer, " how long would it take you to do this job? " it makes them think about the time and effort.
I appreciate you take on difficult pieces with little margin (such as the smoke dresser) and show us on RU-vid. It was a beautiful flip and very useful to the hobbyists that may e.g. inherit or just unknowingly pick up a piece. Hopefully RU-vid will (eventually) give you profit on pieces like that.

I think that you have a lot to offer the public that is into flipping furniture. I think it's awesome you began this channel! I am a handyman and flip furniture too. This video is really spot-on. I truly appreciate your honesty and transparency. My daughter and I started refinishing furniture about 4 months ago and found that almost every piece has presented a new challenge (or 2 or 3) for us to solve. It looks so much easier on RU-vid than it is in real life!!!!! Whining just a little here... but we are HOOKED!!!!! We are learning lots and loving (almost) every minute. Thank you for your insights. I’ve been refinishing furniture for years (strictly for myself)!and have been thinking about turning it into a business. My biggest concern is dealing with the buyers, such as payment, and a safe place for transaction. I live near a major metropolitan city, but closer to the “bad side of town”, so I’m not willing to make deliveries and don’t want strangers coming to my home. It’s still something that I’m researching.
I’ve been binge watching your videos and I’ve learnt a great deal and recognize some of my own mistakes in furniture refinishing. The knowledge and experience you share is outstanding. You’ve obviously done your homework and have no problem thinking outside the box and willing to try new things. Unfortunate those who aren’t willing to do the same will quickly judge others who do. “Time Period” pieces that people are in love with, it’s a “romantic love” and are blinded by this perception and not really seeing the furniture as it is. (Too much Hollywood movies influences). Omg, people judging your tattoos have come to the wrong RU-vid channel. If they can’t see beyond your tattoos and your creative talent. Definitely not happy people, no matter what’s in front of them, constantly looking for faults. Keep on what you’re doing. This channel has been my go to for knowledge and inspiration💝🌟 Thank you for being so humble and being YOU😍🙏

Thank you again, for all your hard work and advice. I totally get the friends asking you to do a peice of furniture for them and when you tell them a price they look shocked and discussed that you would charge them that for a little childs desk. I had to go step by step and explain to her I would do it but I needed payment first. She was wanting to only pay 50.00 I said that doesn't even cover 2hours work little the product to paint the piece and fix the little desk. She didn't even clean the desk to start with but I totally get the friends wanting things done for nothing it pisses me right off and I'm just starting out too I'm not totally new at it but for making money at it I am. I've taken on learning how to re upholstered French provincial chairs it's not fun let me just say tying springs the stripping the piece was easy putting it back together well I'm learning like you say was it worth doing? But im learning something new and I too only have the basics in the tools I would love to have the Surfprep sander too but its not in the budget. Keep up the great job at least you can talk in front of the camera 📷 👏

I was listening to this on night shift last night (I'm a nurse/midwife in Australia)! - picked up some chairs on my way home and had to have a laugh as I spent 20 minutes killing mud wasps that were hatching from under the chairs on movement to get them into my shed! Aaarrrgggghhhhh!!! No bites thank goodness! Thank you for your video's they are inspiring and so helpful for a beginner like me!

Your hard-earned wisdom took the gloss off my enthusiasm for making furniture flipping a real business but it was important to hear. I think just doing it as a hobby is what will work for me.
It’s definitely more work and stress than some people realize- I find RU-vid videos in particular tend to make it all look so easy. But for some, that work and stress iis still worth it. For others, it’s just fun to do for yourself or as a hobby, indeed. Definitely didn’t mean to burst your bubble! I just felt it important to share a bit of what I’ve learned over the last few years :-)

Thanks Angie for sharing such valuable information for free. I found letters "B" and "C" were the most useful & practical business advice for furniture restorers who want to make a living at this. For hobbyists, topics "G" "J" and "K" taken together will keep them grounded in reality, i.e., just b/c you have a bucket of DB paint, a Zibra brush and a Ryobi Table Saw doesn't mean you can render a piece of furniture that anybody else would ever want to own - it takes a lot of practice, and as you have shown us, some fair amount of talent! From a business perspective I'm sure you must have considered other options to monetize this transfer of business knowledge. Regardless, I'm going to buy you a cup of tea (you're my first ever recipient!)

I found valuable information in all of the letters! I did enjoy your comment on how Opinions, and how some people think it’s terrible to paint wood etc. I feel that ever piece you rescue is the key. You are saving some of these pieces from the landfill and extending its life for decades to come. Thank you. I really appreciate you educating the buyers and the sellers. It hopefully weeds out the insincere on both sides. I have fought the ‘bargain hunters’ all my life who don’t value the work I do. I’m almost 70 and still have to work every day. I love what I do and will do it until I die. Many of the RU-vidrs have spouses and/or other sources of income so they have a safety net, so they don’t get it. Thanks you again.

This is so interesting! Thank you for sharing your insights. As a freelancer, I have to be reminded of the ‘knowing your worth’ thing. It’s too easy to slip in to the ‘I’ll do it cheaper, to make some money’ route, especially if you’re a people pleaser like me! 🤦♀️
I have only done a few simple refinishing jobs in my lifetime and don't plan to do it as a job (you DO make it look easy, but it is exhausting) but I have learned so much from your videos which improves my work around home. Especially informative for me was why I would sometimes get swirl marks in my sanding--I hated them so much and sanded them out by hand or painted the piece instead! I DO sometimes press too hard, have usually used too low a grit no matter what the job (80), and moved my sander too fast. I've learned so much besides this from your interesting, as well as entertaining, videos. You also impress your audience with your work ethic & positivity. We get the feeling that you enjoy what you do, even as you treat your projects with respect and seriousness! Thank you for sharing your expertise.

Just practice, keep learning and multi tasking. These are all so true and refreshing to hear. I started practicing and learning on pieces I would get for free…the experience and what I learned while making mistakes have gotten me to the place I am today. Mistakes are frustrating but in a way they are also priceless as they have made me so much better! The difference between a beginner and someone more advanced is knowing how to fix mistakes when they happen and of course avoid repeating them in the future. I learn something new every time I do something. As far as multi tasking goes, this is something I agree with you on and need to get better at when I have the space.

Hey Angie, that was an extremely informative video from the business aspect of flipping furniture. So on point, and it applies to so many different small businesses and endeavors. Many sections of info stood out to me, and while I'm not looking to get into the business, I found them so interesting over all. I couldn't agree with you more about people needing to take on the responsibility of researching and proactively learning as much as possible about anything that interests them, rather than simply contacting someone to ask for a step by step outline. I've learned to do things through watching zillions of youtube videos, (building furniture, gardening, making beautiful things from cement, decorating cookies, etc etc) and it's a matter of layering and cataloging different bits of knowledge until you've accumulated enough background to get started. Your own experience teaches you tips and tricks as well, and quite frankly, a lot of time and work goes into gathering a depth of knowledge about anything, and it can almost be offensive for someone to assume or expect that you could take all that you've learned and simply write it out for them. It's kind of like, I did the work to get where I am, and you need to do the same... hopefully my videos will assist you with that. After all, that's why your videos are viewable. "Watch what I do, listen to my explanations along the way, then ask (if need be) about something specific in that video." Anyway, I'm so terribly sorry that you experienced bullying while growing up. There are few things more cruel that children (peers) can do to each other, and I can't imagine what's happened in their own homes to cause them to choose to purposely spend their time hurting someone else. I was blessed with raising two boys who thought nothing of telling a bully, "Not today, my friend. Find something better to do and leave _______ alone." Again, Angie, great video! You really have something that works for you, and it's a joy to watch you create in every one of your videos!

PS - I am a social worker/counselor and Someone's hateful; mean; snarky remarks is NEVER about you- It is ALWAYS about their pain and self-hatred. You keep doing what you do!

I have been inspired by you to try my hand, so I picked a pine side table that was left behind by a previous tenant at my business, they had painted it black (with wall paint). Since I don't really care about the piece, I figure if I mess it up, no great loss! I have several pieces that are stepping up in quality and complexity, so I have made a "learning path" for myself! Thank you for all the amazing info you share! You are so talented as an artist (and the furniture you restore is definitely art!).

I have only recently found your channel because I am upgrading my bedroom on a budget and wanted something unusual and different that wouldn't break the bank! I bought 2 bedside tables for £5 (don't know what that is in Canadian dollars!) They are 70's cheap and cheerful factory pieces so not the end of the world if I mess up! All this rambling is really just to say I love all your videos and furniture! This video in particular even tho its not aimed at me really as I'm not planning on starting a business still had so much useful information! So thank you for taking the time to make it! Your advice should be considered for ANY business. I was custom quilter for two decades. I know my limitations and I know my abilities. You've pointed out that there is soooo much to consider in the cost of doing business.
I'm not a furniture refinisher (except a few pieces for my own home), but I do sell things online now and then. Many of your tips are excellent for anyone in loads of different ways. Staging, safety, costing, deliveries, etc. Thank you.

I was more than happy learning from ur regular content, but this video went way beyond what most people will generally share about their profession! They either don't want more competition, or just dont want to put the extra effort in. Lol. I am just starting to get serious again about making furniture rehab my full time profession (I started back in 2014 wfter repainting a few pcs for my home, but i HAD TO work full time back then and I quickly got overwhelmed) and getting all this gold in one video is truly priceless to me! So thank you so very much for sharing with us in less than an hour, what took u years to learn! 🥰
