I've been watching countless of informational videos on becoming a makeup artist and this is by far THE BEST AND MOST INFORMATIVE video I've watched in months as well as the others in your series Thank u so much
Sarah!!! Thank you so much for the feedback. I am glad you found it helpful. If you have any other questions/suggestions for videos please let me know. I started this channel to help other MUA's and everyone's requests and questions are so helpful for all of us!
There are a few factors in how to become a makeup professional . One plan I found which successfully combines these is the bloom blueprint crusher (check it out on google) definately the most helpful guide that I've heard of.look at all the great info .
hi everyone ,if anyone else wants to uncover how to do professional wedding makeup try bloom blueprint crusher (do a search on google ) ? Ive heard some amazing things about it and my co-worker got amazing success with it.
I worked for Ulta for 8 months but I’m telling you it was the best experience working on so many different faces for makeup. I hated the pay but I walked away with so much knowledge 👌🏽
THANK YOU!! I’ve been a full time freelance artist for about two years now, finally just got signed with an agency.. but before then, I hustled my butt off for 6 years in cosmetic retail. I always say the social media makeup artist IS NOT what a true Makeup artist is!! Thank you for the honest video for those who are pondering this industry as a career choice.
I cannot express how happy I am that I found your channel. I've been a freelance makeup artist for about a year now and I find myself saying "yep" "THANK YOU" "AMEN" to so many things in your videos. You are so awesome and such a blessing to MUAs.
Thank you. You really should think about starting a beauty school of some sort because you really have a natural great tone in explaining things. I look forward to watching your series. #newsubbie
I can't believe i just found your channel! this is exactly the moment i need it because i'm starting my own business as a Makeup Artist and your videos are sooo incredibly informative and full of good advices. Thank you!!
Currently enrolled at MUD's program and I love it! It's definitely a lot harder than I expected as you are correct, it's a totally different style than what you see on social media. I'm grateful to have found your channel. Thanks for sharing your knowledge
That's great! MUD has a fairly extensive program so I'm sure you will learn a lot. Yes it's totally different from social media in so many ways. Glad you are liking the videos!
I really appreciate this video, I'm 17 and seeing this helped open my eyes. I decided to practice on people once i got to college. Talking to my teacher she has her own hair salon and she told me it her a lot time, effort, and patience to be were she is at now. Thank you for this video this just helped me not get so discouraged when trying to become a makeup artist.
you’re a total angel, i went to a workshop and PAID for it. it was not as detailed as you are, people like you who share their knowledge like this, kudos.
OMG I REALLY NEEDED THIS , I KNOW U POSTED THIS VIDEO 4YEARS AGO BUT TRUST ME I NEEDED TO HEAR THESE WORDS!!! I JUST FELT ALIL LOST AND CONFUSED & DIDNT KNOW WHERE OR HOW TO START MY BEAUTY CAREER, BUT BLESS YOU DARLING FOR THIS VIDEO AND GOING IN DEPTH ABOUT THE BEAUTY /MAKEUP WORLD!!! The raw truth finally! Makes a lot of sense
I have paid a looooooot for a makeup school but I've learned much more just from watching your videos. you are worth sooo much more subscribers. well done and thank you so much for sharing all these tips ❤
This is why I am glad I found your channel. My interest in wanting to be a MUA is specifically to hopefully do bridal, print and editorial and runway in the future. I personal detest social media makeup and have been looking for someone like you for proper tips and guide for entering this industry. Thanks for sharing
I'm super duper stoked that I just found your channel. I LOVE that most of your videos are for MUAs. I've been freelance for a few years.. but can't figure out how actually move it to full time. I do a wedding or so once every few months. I'm really excited to see everything you have to say and all tbis in depth advice!!!! Thank you SO much!!
Your videos are what I've been looking for since the beginning of time 🙌🏾 I've been watching you non-stop since I discovered your channel yesterday. You're a breath of fresh air! Everyone needs to know about your channel 💕
I have been watching tons of videos on how to become a makeup artist and yours is definitely one of the best! Thank you so much for this informative video ❤
If you keep up this fantastic content, you might just get youtube famous in the near future 👍 I finished a make-up course last year, but have only been able to do a few gigs after that (getting married and moving house took a lot more energy than we hoped). This year I am looking to branch out more, so your videos come at just the right time! (Gosh I wish I had these tips on checking curriculum and teachers background before I chose my course 🙀.)
Just found your channel last night and Im learning *SO* much! You are so right, most of the content that's put out there isn't based on the real world, nor are many of those artists "working". I've been looking for reliable info on everything makeup artistry for *awhile* now, with absolutely no luck until I found you, so thank you! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! Now Im gunna get back to my binging on your channel 😁

Thank you! I completely agree. I used to be a airbrush artist and i think the art is just a skill .You either have it or you don't but truthfully you need to be business minded and as an artist you have to understand allergies as well.
Thanks Angie for this awesome video! I'm a freelance makeup artist and you are completely right when you say it's a hustle in the beginning! Love your videos!
So full of wisdom and positivity hope this takes you far, you’re so much better than all the superficial ladies out there trying to make a name for themselves
This is really a great, informative video with practical advice on the subject. One of the best I’ve watched so far! Really looking forward to watching the rest of this series. Thank you!
This is an incredibly thorough and accurate video that brings attention to a much MUCH needed reality check for IG influenced MUA want-to-be's!! Thank you for shedding light on the deserved consideration, education, passion and respect this career choice requires. And damn! you could not have hit the nail any more square on the head than when you - in other words - explained the lack of complete education in the schools!! Well done, Angie!
Finally an honest video about being an mua. I went to school got my certificate a year ago and have had very little paid work so i take the opportunity to do time for print when i can to build my portfolio and experience i think this is a great way to network also with other local professionals. Looking forward to watching the rest of this series.. New sub 😊
Really great info!! I am currently going to cosmetology school (later in life) and after I graduate I am taking a short class to specialize in TV and film makeup. Thanks for taking the time to post all the great videos!
I am SO happy I've come across your channel, all of your videos are so helpful and informative! thank you so much for taking time to make these videos cause they'll be so helpful in my near future since I want to become a makeup artist! Keep up the amazing job, please! 💚
Thank you so much ! I love makeup and started to learn from training school . When I start to do makeup for other person , I found it is so different from what I usually do on myself . It looks heavy , it doesn't look like the person that used to be . Most of the time my makeup aged the person a few years which I am really disappointed for the makeup I have done . I started to feel worried to ask my fd for my makeup practice , As I worry I disappoint them too . Glad I found your video , it's very encouraging . I understand practice is important . And I hope I can gain more knowledge on makeup on RU-vid . Please keep sharing your thoughts and tips with us . Makeup artist is quite a lonely career as everyone have different path , style and techniques . Glad to watch your video , it's like a friend that can understand me . Thank you
in the country I live makeup school is just full of misinformation and youtube-instatrends (I've had a teacher that suggest her students to use the silicon bras to apply makeup on clients...) and barely talk about actual color theory, hygiene, techniques and so... finding your RU-vid channel is teaching me sooooo much! THANK YOU! FOR SHARING THAT MUCH KNOWLEDGE! 💞
I can't stop watching your videos. I'm also a makeup artist in Toronto and I love how truthful (and oh so correct) you are. My school portfolio is WHOMP WHOMP, but I did learn a lot.
My big pet peeve is that a lot of artists don't have websites and use instagram. I was looking for an assistant and only one person submitted a website. I don't wanna scroll through their stuff, especially a lot of the time it's just makeup on themselves.
Finally the content I was looking for .I wish I had seen yr vedios before I wasted money on the makeup school which promised everything and delivered nothing ....thank u 🙏🙏
Thats ok everyone have to start somewhere!! I'm an aspiring makeup artist but glad I already work in the Entertainment Industry as a Music Promoter out of NYC and Miami so I will be using my network with the people I know to hopefully get opportunities but other than that this for a hobby until im done with school and open my salon/spa as a stylist..i'm focusing just on Glam, proms, weddings... I have a full time job in philanthropy and I work retail on weekends and some evenings to get more practice. I'm using the retail money to pay for taking making courses at a school and I still feel like I'm not as good as I would like to be. It's amazing to me how many people think being a makeup artist is easy. I love makeup and I love making people feel good, but I am starting to get a little discouraged because working two jobs is hard and other things have started to slide (e.g. exercising, date nights with the husband, etc.). How do you balance it all? Anyway, thank you so much for your honesty and candor. I'm really looking forward to watching all of your videos! :)
You are superwoman! Honestly it's very hard to balance, I was in a similar position to you and I worked two (or three) jobs for many years before I got myself in a position to be able to do makeup full time but it wasn't without the support of family and my wonderful boyfriend. It takes time and it is really not as easy/glamorous as it seems on social media. I actually am thinking about discussing this in a video because you've asked a great question! Thank you for the inspiration!
This will be a great topic for a video. It is exceptionally hard to balance a career in this industry when you are freelance. You always feel like to have to take every job, the hours are irregular and before you know it you've missed holidays, parties etc. But this is part of the hard work that you have to put in before you become successful. It also helps to set your limits and stick to it (not taking any work on days off no matter what it is) and being ok with missing out on jobs to take time for yourself.
Angie Di Battista thank you for your honesty. I find it very hard to feel like I'm getting better because I'm not applying makeup on someone everyday. It's also harder than I thought to count on friends to help you "play around on them" because they are busy as well. I'm trying to stay motivated and positive because I really love makeup and truly want to be a successful artist in the future. Thanks again for all you do! Xo
I totally understand. This is something we all deal with early on in our careers. Patience is very important for success and growth in this industry. There will be times when you will be busy doing makeup and then there will be times that are slower but that will happen even down the road in your career. Go with the flow, practice when you can and don't be too hard on yourself !!!!!
My friend recommended me to start doing makeup from home and I am considering it. I just don't know how to start. It's nice how you mentioned about Sephora I actually just got the job there and training will start in 2 weeks. I am excited!
Fabulous video! Really well done. One thing I will say-even if you only want to do TV & Film, don’t just focus on special effects or prosthetics. You need to know how to do beauty makeup as well. They’re not going to hire a different makeup artist to do that aspect-you need to learn how to do all aspects of makeup. Also! You may not have a full book when you come out of school (you are always adding to it) but having 5 photos to show what you can do is better than having nothing. It won’t help you get amazing jobs but it will help you get something

Angie thank you for all your great advice, tips and tricks!! I try to watch other tutorials but I always end up coming back to you!!!! You’re so knowledgeable and well informed it’s refreshing.
We do have the same sentiments. It is really a different world out there once you decided to venture to this industry. Your knowledge will be broaden once you have already experienced handling different faces. The skills you have will be more enhanced by experience. Not all routines are applicable to all clients. You really have to know the needs of your clients skin and that alone is a skill. This video is really very helpful I am an avid subscriber now!. HMUA all the way from Philippines..
Wow, you are refreshing!! Made me feel a million times better about myself! Screw the normals who think we MUAs need airbrushes and ridiculous Instagrams to be legit 😡 lol

Thank you for the great video, and for bursting this bubble of "I'm doing all my friend's makeup = I can be a rick, successful makeup artist". By the way, I'm working at a makeup counter and first, there are so many times I have to explain costumers that Instagram makeup isn't practical for real life (no, concealer doesn't always have to be lighter than your skin) and second, it's a great way to get started. You do get experience with dealing with many people with different skin tones, eye shapes and issues, you learn to work quickly, to deal with annoying people in a pretty safe environment ( \you have tons of products available and worst case scenario, you can ask an colleague for help).
Mika Grossmann I hate to say it girl but makeup is changing right in front of our eyes. People are starting to lean more towards the Instagram style of makeup for more things especially younger people and some other countries like the UK the working makeup scene is now shifting to instagram’s style of makeup. Everything in life evolves and that’s a part of life in any field.
I recently discovered your channel and I must say I love you! I love your approach to educating us and your matter-of-fact personality. I'm an Aspiring artist. Keep making videos ❤

I just found your channel and I'm blown away that I haven't come across any of your videos until today! I'm a 17-year-old student with a huge passion for makeup and makeup artistry, and this is my dream job. Your videos are going to help me out a lot and motivate me so much to work towards my dream. Thank you so much, please keep making videos!! :)
Hey, just starting out as a beauty therapist and I've started to do weddings. Can you please show me how you sanitise brushes between clients. I have a wedding coming up with seven bridesmaids and have no idea what to do. 😀 love your video's from the uk 🇬🇧
Hi Aimee - I normally use Cinema Secrets brush cleaner in between clients and then mist the brushes with 70% alcohol. The CS brush cleaner goes on a paper towel and I will wipe the brushes until they come clean.
can you do a video on the brushes sets and tools that a beginner makeup artist can buy? ps: yous videos have helped me a lot, thank you for all of them.
this is amazing, I love the passion you have and thank you so much for sharing your experience, knowledge and thank you for....monitoring me thru this video.

Hi Angie! Loved your video, full of extremely useful information! I have to admit I've been looking for a foundation that looks flawless and natural on the skin for a long time. Can you please recommend your favourite liquid foundation from the drugstore? Or inexpensive from Sephora? Thank you :)
I don't have any recommendations from the drugstore - they don't have enough pigment to hold up on long shoot days. I have a video on my favourite foundation/powder and concealer that you can check out. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Keg4VFbXhPM.html

Hi Angie! Could you possibly do a video on how to get out of a creative rut? I have been working in the industry for over 3 years now and have been so lucky to work with incredible people/projects, but I feel like I keep getting hired for the same natural makeup looks over and over again. I want to sort of 'reinvent' myself as an artist but it's so difficult to do that when clients seem to want the same type of look from me every time!
I can definitely cover that either on my blog or on a video. I'll be honest with you i've been working in this industry for over 15 years and 90% of the makeup I get paid to do is natural, and i'm ok with that because that is what pays my bills. I would recommend booking some creative photoshoots where you choose the direction of the makeup looks and push yourself that way. That is where I find I can be more creative and also build my book a bit to showcase my range as a makeup artist!
Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. I should've mentioned that I work in the fashion industry on photoshoots & runway so it becomes sort of difficult knowing that I work in a field that has so much ability/lust for creativity but it's not a frequent gig for me. Good idea though, I think I will try that. Also thanks so much for always responding in such a timely manner it's really amazing that you do that for all of us-- We love you!
New subbie here :) Your channel is like the Game of Thrones for me. I keep on watching your videos everyday like how I get addicted to TV series. This is very helpful for someone who wants to be a professional make up artist , like me.
