This is part 1 of a series dedicated to discussing the bridal makeup industry. I go over what it means to work in bridal and how to get started doing bridal makeup. Whether you are an artist that is just getting started in bridal, or someone that is looking for tips on how to get more bridal work - I discuss all of that in this video!
In part 2 I will discuss the life cycle of a bridal client and we will go over everything from how to attract clients for bridal to what happens during the trial and what happens once the wedding is done!

I have a few girls from my MUA class (we graduated) that I can rely on for showing up for a job/doing a good makeup application/having a professional image. When we each have a bigger gig, (I.e., wedding, galla, fitness competition/stage makeup) the person who books it, is the "lead"...we let her do the business side and we are there to work for her. She is in charge. The nice thing about working with girls from my own school/class, we are all trained the same way, we know each others skills and we can easily communicate looks and replicate it (for larger groups) and trouble shoot for each other! Such an awesome team of girls to draw from for bigger gigs. Love all your videos! Thanks for sharing with us. XO

I’m finally doing my FIRST bridal makeup. Just the bride 👰🏽 I had to make sure I referred to this video 🙌🏽 A few months ago, I did engagement makeup for a woman. She was beautiful. She loved her makeup so much that she contacted me recently to do her wedding makeup and paid me the total for the what I charged on my website. She was so sweet These videos are so helpful. I know what you are saying! I didn't have a lot of help early in my career and found a lot of other artists to be very secretive about the industry, I have also paid for workshops with pro makeup artists that I found were not helpful at all (money I spent that could have gone back into my kit) so I'm hoping to share my knowledge with others to help out. I think it is important for all of us to share information and support each other so we can all be successful!

Hey Amy! This palette from Tarte www.sephora.com/tartelette-amazonian-clay-matte-eyeshadow-palette-P391759?skuId=1659424&icid2=products%20grid:p391759 is something you could look for. All matte shadows, and if your client wants them to have a bit of shimmer you can swipe a highlighter over them.

I am going to start doing bridal makeup what should I start charging. there is a cosmetics bar in my town that charges 120+ just for the bride. I will be doing four people including the bride. What is standard but not cheating myself?

Hi Ivy! I haven't done a video on pricing yet because it is so different for everyone across the board. Depending on where you live, what your experience is, what you offer your bride - my advice is to reach out to bridal makeup artists in your area to get an idea and go from there. You can average it out - another piece of advice I have is to avoid undercutting for your own gain. Charging extremely low rates is not beneficial to the industry or for you in the long run when you want to start increasing your prices.

When my sister got married, she had to drive to the makeup artists salon the morning of and then went to her wedding location. That makeup artist certainly had it much easier lol

Please remember brides have feelings and we are not just cash cows. I've been badly burnt by a poor quality Mua charging a lot. I've enrolled in an online Mua academy and from now on will never use an Mua again. Talented genuine people will always be in demand.

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience. I definitely agree we always have to put ourselves in our client's shoes and treat them how we would like to be treated, and this goes both ways because MUA's can be horribly treated by clients as well. I wish you luck with your schooling. I hope you won't judge all of us on the basis of one bad experience, and maybe one day in the future will consider hiring a makeup artist.
