The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

I suspected as drugs were so big then in the 60's-80's. Some died in the 90's and still do. It is SO sad so many artists and celebrities have died due to substance abuse/overdose, and some from liver failure, usually due to alcoholism at that age(40's/50's). Some probably before. Crosby was no saint and was in jail twice but he made it to 81. I believe it is believed he died from liver failure although they really dont say. Maybe tonight they will. The family asked for privacy. I liked the band and C, S, & Nash but the famous songs were the originals of Bob Dylan.

@rhuephus

@johnlenkes256
@johnlenkes256 3 года назад
I agree. Today's acts require a bunch of flashy lights and dancers who hardly wear anything jumping and prancing all over the stage. The singers have outrageous make-up on, pierced beads all over their face, and rings hanging from their nose and chin. They wear hideous outfits with tattoos all over their body. Today's bands need to concentrate on their performance and leave the filth behind.

Because many videos in Ed Sullivan's channel were uploaded just for a few seconds, and it had happened for many years. The unnoficial channels that tried to post the whole performance of the song were blocked by RU-vid. So I have been waiting since 2012, and luckly this channel started up posting whole songs and not just few seconds.

@@victorhugobarcelos1523 whoever's in charge of the "Ed Sullivan Show" archive probably realized that there's a lot more money in RU-vid streaming now than trying to sell DVDs. That's likely why they used to only post short sections of the clips to encourage people to buy the DVD set.

Name ONE song that Crosby wrote. I'll be waiting for your response. He was fortunate to have been around ultra talented band members, but Crosby's actual contribution is very iffy. He was renowned as an asshole, and a very mixed-up drug addict. He famously referred to Joe Biden as "a decent guy." I cannot honestly think of any other person that has referred to Biden as a decent guy, and I'm a Democrat. The only intelligent thing that I know about Crosby is that he supported Bernie Sanders.

The Byrds covered Dylan a few times and gave the songs a whole new side, their harmonys were something else. They inspired many bands of the last 30 years esp from the UK..
@THEScottCampbell
@THEScottCampbell 9 месяцев назад
The Byrds didn't "cover" Dylan songs. McGuinn REWROTE them often working from rough demo recordings provided by Dylan's publisher. Dylan pitched "Tambourine Man" to them in order to get them to record it. Byrds manager Jim Dickson was a Dylan fan and Peter, Paul and Mary already had a hit with their RENDITION of "Blowing In The Wind". "Covering" a tune is when someone tried to copy someone else's hit. Dylan didn't even recognize the Byrds versions when he heard them live but kept providing them with unreleased demo's up to 1969.
