Hauntingly lovely. This song is exceptional in its wistful, gorgeous melodic structure. Terrific harmonies with the truncated harmony lyric by Crosby, wow. And McGuinn's amazing backwards guitar over the jangle. Should be required listening in any music appreciation class.
My mind cant shake the fact Younger than Yesterday is a mix of Revolver and Rubber soul and better than either, as an avid Beatles fan I hate to admit that .Incredible album and the delayed harmonies from 1:54 onwards are delicious and the best thing on the entire album
I noticed it the 1st time I heard it all. I can tell which songs come from other songs not just only by lyrics but by notes. The influences people had upon one another..
And yes The Times they were tried in court and actually lost the cases and had to pay out to artist for stealing their music or notes whatever it may have been. Those are the ones I never understood. You couldn't really hear it. These are so strong you would think that these would be the ones that people would have complained on.
It was nice in the 60's where everyone could share. The greed seemed to set in the minute the 70's started! Money and litigation for the past 50 plus years with no let up for the future. I don't even want to listen to music anymore! The sound of silence is the path to peace!
Obviously the Byrds derive heavily from the beatles, but it's ridiculous to say that the beatles were anything close to what they byrds were doing with the country infused rock music on this and other tracks on this album
Was this melody inspired by George Harrison or was Harrison inspired by it? Then, it's as if a "normal" mid- '60s Beatle-style song is trying to escape from an insane asylum where new, exciting but deranged, scary sounds live. It keeps desperately popping its head up out of a formerly unseen hole in its cage but is once again pulled back into the abyss. The deranged, scary sounds ultimately triumph and so do we all.
@@thomasrobinson182 Well, yes, of course, that happened, but I was commenting on the vocal melody of "Thoughts and Words" which sounds very Harissonish to me. I sorely miss this kind of invention and experimentation. Sometimes the Byrds equaled and even eclipsed the Beatles in this regard. Hearing this song again immediately takes me back to those days and how they felt. It was a remarkable time, I'm afraid never to come again.
