My buddy and I went to see Easy Rider in our little town's air conditioned theater. Just before the movie started, 2 people sat behind us. It was my mom and my buddy's mom, both very prudish. Holy shit we were uncomfortable in the New Orleans whore house part and the LSD trip cemetery scenes. We were Juniors in high school. I wore out a bunch of bikes since high school and always enjoyed the sound track. Where the hell did time go? Times changed. Around 2015 my mom was up visiting for Easter Week. Around 3AM I heard hysterical muffled laughter coming from her on the couch. She was watching the Borat DVD and kept replaying the part where Borat found out that the rubber fist was used to jam up somebody's ass. The next morning my son, gramma, and I sat on the couch and watched Borat again. She was laughing so hard that tears were streaming down her face and she jiggled like Jello on railroad tracks and no sound came out. We were afraid she would have a stroke laughing so hard.
i saw it at 15.Yeah with my older sister and her boyfriend who so cool! I wanted motorcycle so bad! Took a few hitchiking road trips too but they werent like the ones i saw in the movies LOL! Learned i better get the cycle first witch i did at 18,a 64 panhead 1200 harley!Dangerous! But what time to be alive Brother!
Love the break where the phased guitar kicks in. It goes straight from country rock to space rock and then back to country rock again. Like a UFO that hovers over a countryside for a few seconds and then shoots off into the Cosmos again.
@@John-nt2ejYes if you're looking at the movie from a technical standpoint but you also have to factor in that it was not shot on stages but it was in the open countryside with all the difficulty that would entail. Meaning the meaning they couldn't get take after take after take. A lot of it had to come from spontaneity and compromise
Ever since the corporate bean counters and marketing clowns got hold of the music industry it has steadily gone downhill, all in the name of money! But there are still great artists out there, performing for the people who really matter..... it is just that we dont hear of them until we actually hear their music.
The Sadies… check them out. Their music will dry your tears and restore your faith… and RAWK your world! I heard them respectfully cover this classic tune 3 years ago. They understand and respect tradition but are building and creating new and awesome sounds… but like the other commenter said, you gotta see them live.
a lot has changed in 50 years. especially with the planet, a lot more open road and wilderness 50 years ago. a lot more social mobility too, your dollar went a lot further, i remember graduating from high school and driving with a buddy up to alaska from the midwest. no computers, no cell phones, 4 channels on the t.v., who would all sign off at midnight or earlier. people back then relished the idea of not being in contact with anyone or anything, now they track your every move, the computer, the car, your phone. a lot has changed, and not all of it for the better.
And everyone young believing everything they do is remarkable and needs to be "shared" and "liked" because they are all so amazing. Pathetic fools, thanks, social media.🖕
I saw them back in the early 70's in a gymnasium, I think Nassau CC, sitting on gym mats ( do they still use them?) smokin' doobies and listen'n to The Byrds great talent. Yo. OG
I saw this film back in 1969 with my best friend Fraser Anderson we had many adventures over time Fraser is part of the universe now ...Ill miss him forever
When I first saw this as a teenager in 1995, it was a movie my grandparents hated. 25 years later, it's a movie that most grandparents love. It shows you how the times have shifted.
A movie that will always hold a special place in my soul. The greatest soundtrack to any movie in my opinion. Immediately bought it when it came out. All great tunes
Most people would be surprised to learn it’s a Goffin-King song. I agree it should have been a hit. Love this, and still love the Byrds. They were incredibly influential and don’t get enough credit.
She may argue with her logic, and mention all the things I loose that really have no value, in the end she will surely know I wasn't born to follow... Wow!! I' ve always loved this line!!
It's a perfect example of a cover being far superior to the original (Carole King). The only other comparable cover is Talking Heads Take Me to the River, from the B side of an Al Green single.
I was inspired to use these incredible life affirming lyrics for a friend's eulogy on his passing He was misunderstood & made no apologies about his lifestyle I thought these lyrics spoke of his soul I might ask it to be read at my passing...
@@stephansundling2947 Not sure of your exact meaning, but Nicholson had been in the movies since the 1950s, working for Roger Carman. Even did some work in television. But of course, EASY RIDER was his ticket to stardom.
@@stephansundling2947 fun fact 2 years before Jack Nicolson was in a Biker Movie Called Hell Angels on Wheels 1967 he played POET a Lone Biker that joined up with the Hell Angles and Peter Fond was in a Biker Movie called Wild Angels 1966 He played the Leader Named BLUES Wild Angels had a Famous Soundtrack and Dennis Hopper ? well he was in a Biker movie called Glory Stompers 1967 he played the Leader named Chino so... all 3 were in biker movies ..
The Byrds really were really great and covering songs by Dylan and, here, Carole King and Gerry Goffin. King and Goffin wrote so many songs for other artists. This was a great one.
One of my all time fav bands ..just got the 11 cd box ..it's fantastic ..if your a Byrd's fan highly recommend..just a beautiful set with great book....
Mine to miss Linda mine to I,m so glad I own this gem of a film on DVD and video as well rip brother Peter we will miss you well peace everyone😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭.
I 'm lucky to have seen the Byrds two times in my life, although the line up was with John York ( i took a photograph with him ,plus the autograph that i have lost ) and Skip Battin . Best regards to you, Linda Warwick . Patrick from Italy
Oh my God, I remember the Hippy film Easy Rider with so much fondness now l am an old man of 68. I am Englsh but the film seemed to conjure up a magical world of American freedom.
1969 I was 15 about a dozen of us kids piled into my friend Russell’s falcon station wagon his parents gave him, and we went to the $2 a carload drive-in movie to see this movie. As long as you stayed in or on the vehicle it was ok, we all climbed up on the roof and it caved in, stoned on pot and hash. Great memories
Who remembers transistor radios ? Or better still "phase shifters" that made your electric guitar sound way cool psychedelic like Jim's ? (aka "Roger") ....
@@Stacie45 Thank you.... I grew up with older brothers. Learned on a 1973 350 Honda. One week retired...I Rode 2007 Electra glide 4000 miles Colorado, Washington state, Oregon Pacific coast to San Francisco. I returned to Colorado, I repacked my bags and prepared to go see my dad in Iowa.. He passed away before I got there. No regrets. I had been out to see him several times the last 4 years of his life. Life moves fast and forward. Thanks again.
@@craigster0861 You're welcome. I lost my Dad in Feb. but made it up to Seattle to be with him. Interesting, my first ride was a 1977 CB360T, bought new with money from my paper route. Rode it from Seattle to the Grand Canyon when I was 17, didn't ask permission, freaked out my parents when I called and told them I was in Colorado. A few years later I upgraded to a 1982 GS1100E which I rode all over North America from Florida to Alaska, put 85,000 miles on it. Still have it, I want to get it running again. Good times.
most beautiful song I've ever heard ever since I heard it. Jerry Goffin wrote these INspirational words, and Carole King supplied the melody. This was the first recording of it, off the Notorious Byrd Brothers album. My fave part of Easy Rider. wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!
Peter & Dennis were the Harley-Davidson chopper ridding, cross-country dynamic duo that has now made Easy Rider the legendary movie it is today!!!! R.I.P boys, your legendary legacy still rides strong with us today and will NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!!!!!🇺🇸🏍️😎🥰
The twenty-four hours that was my youth was something special, that l try to revisit often.... those times will never come again only in memory, l hope yours were special to, a time lost in space.
That would have been nice, but ...... normality and time have a way of catching up with you, l have made peace with my altered ego , the paths l took we're never easy but they drew me in, now melancholy is my calling, but you enjoy and thanks for the invite👍🎸🍺
This was the last movie that I saw in quite awhile in the late summer of 1969 when I was finishing infantry training at an Army post(Ft. Jackson) to go into town to watch it. I had to sneak off the post at night to get into the city(Columbia, SC) and avoid the MPs in my final act of defiance as a trainee. I would sometimes also sneak into town to go to an antiwar GI coffeehouse called the UFO, which had been declared off limits by the Army as a subversive organization.
Damn that's cool you know what I hate about the military is when they mail this join the military mali I have a cousin who is autistic and the sent him marine mail now he want to join what scares me is if he joins and goes to war hell either get killed or be scared
Peter Tork recorded this song on The Monkees album, Good Times, 2016, ( # 14 on Billboard album chart). He sings it slowly and soulfully, just achingly beautiful...
Roger McGuinn did it much better. The Monkees is basically the One Direction of the 60s/70s. It was a TV show band that people didn’t have much respect for at all.
@@Mr_Mojo_Rising You are correct that the Monkees was indeed a tv show band. As Micky has explained for decades, “ We are not the Monkees. The Monkees was a band that never made good on a tv show of the same name.” Nevertheless, they continue to sell out concerts and their 2016 album Good Times sold out during pre-sales and had to go back to press to meet the demand”. Since they are not a band, they do not tour or put out albums as a band. As Peter has said many times, “We are an entertainment act hired to reprise the roles from the tv show.” Though it is much more than that. The Tv show remains the longest running tv show in re-runs as it was not only popular in the US but remains popular around the world. Because of the reruns, every year brings them new fans. For a “not a band” entertainment act they made music history in many ways including inventing two music genres: Broadway rock and Country rock. They are also classified as pop music, rock and psychedelic rock. It is clear that you do not have respect for them but do not assume that all people believe as you do. They are missed greatly and are still beloved by many generations. Rest peacefully, David, Peter and Michael- The Manchester Cowboy, The Musician’s Musician and heartbreakingly recently, The Leader of the band.
@@watermelonlalala Micky didn’t sing it, Peter did. He slowed the tempo which added more gravity, emotion and meaning to the words. I’m absolutely not criticizing The Byrds. They sang it first and they sang it awesomely! I simply love Peter’s take on it.
Mom and Dad took us to see Easy Rider at the drive-in theater. We were precocious.at 14 and got a huge charge from listening to them bounce ideas off each other as to what was happening. We had to be quiet and not let-on for obvious reasons.
Uno dei film ha girato dentro me da una vita , con colonne sonore fantastiche . E doveva essere un B Movie !! " non hanno paura di voi per come vestite ma per ciò che rappresentate .. Straordinario !
The only thing that I would have changed about this song is, for me it wasn't long enough. Though small, and perfectly formed, I always wish the 'psychedelic interlude', was longer. The simple solution was to listen to this track, time and again, driving those around me crazy :) This film and the music used, changed my life, for better or worse, who knows :)
I like the way they morphed from country to psychedelic and back I agree it should have been longer but long songs weren't played on the radio back then There are 2 versions of the Animals Sky Pilot one with a great middle psych sound with bombs and bagpipes Another great song cut for AM radio is Time has come again by The Chambers Brothers
Corporate radio imposed a 2 minute, 30 second window back in the 1960's, possibly earlier, they had to have enough commercial time to pay the bills. It ruined a lot a good songs that had more lyrics and needed longer air-time.
Que actores , son iconos del cine . Te atrapan todas las secuencias imágenes y escenas . Y los directores soberbios , excelentes , igual que los guionistas expendidos , que cine una exquisitez
No I'd rather go and journey Where the diamond crescent's glowing And run across the valley Beneath the sacred mountain And wander through the forest Where the trees have leaves of prisms And break the light in colors That no one know the names of And when it's time I'll go and lay Beside the legendary fountain 'Till I see her form reflected In its clear and jewelled waters And if you think I'm ready You may lead me to the chasm Where the rivers of our visions Flow into one another I will want to dive beneath the white cascading waters She may beg, she may plead, she may argue with her logic And mention all the things I'll lose That really have no value in the end she will surely know I wasn't born to follow
Carole King and her late husband wrote this song. That I did not know ,Wow. Some talented people. I hope the Brill Building NYC is maintained as a historical site.
Absolutely wonderful, special film, how cool it must have been back then, they all look so carefree and happy enjoying themselves, I've always known of the movie and soundtrack since I was a kid thanks to Dad playing it, on nights I've had drinks in the past even, play scenes from it, Play the movie and the soundtrack at the same time, Love the Bit at the start where he throws his watch down on ground, no need to keep track of time, Just before born to be wild, always get lost in it, perfect the 3 main Actors in it, Jack as George Hanson, Dennis as Billy and Peter as Wyatt Captain America, One of The Saddest Endings Ever,
@@irenezafar966 i was there then....it was good... and bad ...but there WAS a special "VIBE" goin on at the time...a great time for experimentation..a UNITY of people, a INNOCENCE that we've lost in todays world...we almost had it all..but we blew it!(Just like Fonda said at the end of the movie)! Maybe now, with MORE LOVE and less DRUGS...we will make it work out ....here's hoping for a beautiful future! ....Namaste.
Great!!! Great Song!!! Most of all GREAT MOVIE!!! AND THOSE "CHOPPERS" it's Great to feel the wind Flying in your Hair..I Had a Black Painted Chopper Back in 1969....
One of the most iconic movies of all time it really made people stop and think of the times we were living it and where we were going at that time of the country everybody oughta watch this movie because the end will shock you check your John out
