This film is at the top of my list of best pictures of all time. I don't care if it happens to be German or if it is silent. The sets, the acting, the makeup, the cinematography, so much about this film is unique. I get something new from it each time I see it. Perhaps film students should be required to see it.
The sets were very low budget due to the state of Germany so soon after the defeat of WW1. They made do with what they had and the horrors of war leave their mark in a subtle way in the background.
@@irenahacki911 I never said there was. My point was that I disagree with people who see these details as a liability, and won't watch the film for those reasons. What a stupid and pointless reply.
