Jurgen Menzel was granted fellow status by the San Diego cactus and succulent society and was well known for his vast knowledge and expertise in the field of cacti & succulents. I never had the pleasure of meeting Jurgen but feel like we are kindred souls in some sense as I have been able to get a sense of his dedication and passion for these bizarre desert plants. He passed away in 2018 but his impact on the trade and the hobby is still felt today.

I used to trade with Jurgen back around 2010 using his Excel sheet catalog. He was so kind and wise and was the guy who in an indirect way exposed me to cacti that weren't commonly found in big box stores. Even when I stopped collecting for some time, I would periodically check on him to make sure he was still with us. I was really sad to learn of his passing but its cool that this greenhouse was still around.

as someone who has been collecting for a few decades, i dont buy grafs because they will grow apart as they mature.

I couldn't help but notice how Hunter (or anyone else for that matter) didn't mention who is taking care of this immense collection these days. Usually with these greenhouse tours, there's a segment where the owner etc will talk a bit, but not this time. Can you shed some light on that?

Hi! I've been collecting cactus for several years and have what I feel to be a diverse & quality collection. I'm missing some of the more sought after/rare species. I was wondering if somehow, you knew how to get some Copiapoa cinerea seeds. I cannot afford to buy a live Copiapoa cinerea plant because they are out of my price range, but I've always admired them. I feel it would be more economical for me to buy Copiapoa cinerea seed rather than a live plant. Please let me know if you can help me. Sincerely, Scott from Oklahoma

Is that a euphorbia at 6 minutes 20 seconds? Fantastic tour, surprised to see a flat of Golden barrel Cactus at the beginning, the ubiquitous painful resident of too many collections

I love ur Pro tip, Hunter!!! I have only been collecting for a year,,, would love to learn more about pollinating my own cactus as I have A lot of them already in my collection but no 2 of any 1 kind!! Then I read that cactus can "self-pollinate" and I think that makes me love them even MORE now?!?!! How can it be?? #slighly confused Btw, I forget what video it was u posted just recently, but FYI Savage said "Alot" 68 times 🙄 smh Love ur vids baby!!!!! Keep it up!!!!!! 😊

@cactus Quest The rusty red spots on the Ortegocactus are not a disease, its their natural look, but these colours only occur around the town of San Pedro Martir Quiechapa.

@@cellokenno if you notice at the beginning of the video they edit out so to speak where this is located. This was essentially a private tour that they could video but the where, why, when so to speak shall remain unknown…. Beautiful collection and glad I could see what is still around.

Hello! You make really good videos, even if I always complain about it. that's because i'm a die-hard romantic and have an aversion to every new trent. Please excuse me. one can feel how much you love these plants. greetings from Germany.

Question: I have and am familiar with San Pedro cactus with a 4" cross section, the question is are there a larger "version" with a cross section more like 5 or 6 inches which I have seen in Malibu and elsewhere or is that due to cultivation rather than type?
@billyjack3580
@billyjack3580 Год назад
Could be that you saw a Trichocereus macrogonus.😢
@quail333
@quail333 Год назад
@@billyjack3580 I am not familiar with Macrogonus but I am definitely talking about a larger Trichocereus Pachnoi, what I have was from Cactus Mart in the Seventies.
