My daddy started his life living over on the Cattalooche , just like Cades Cove, the Gvt came and basically took it all to turn into national park land. My daddy loved both places. His last request before he died was to make one more trip over in there. He had a few kin that settled the place way back years before he was born. He always said it was one of the prettiest and haunting places he had ever seen along with the Big Cattaloochee
John E Oliver, Jr (6th cousin 8xrem) who married Lucretia Frazier lived in Cades Cove, TN…the Oliver’s were my cousins…all of their 10 children were born in Cades Cove..I have visited their homestead many times in Cades Cove..I really enjoy Cades Cove every time I go…
I love Cades cove took my dad and mother in law there frequently. Both are deceased now. I hope they continue to visit. Each of them loved it in their own way.
I always enjoy a trip to Cave's Cove. My wife and I have visited the cove for decades and it never gets old. We built a Hearthstone log home in 1994 and learned that the Hearthstone company was inspired by the Oliver cabin. They originally took down old originals and sold them but as the years went by those got almost impossible to find and buy so they started manufacturing their own out of Dandridge Tn......which is where ours came from. Thanks for the memories.

I don’t think it’s haunted. My Great Great Uncle George Washington Shields lived there. “George Washington Shields was born in 1844 at Cade's Cove, and was married to Lina Gregory in 1865. They had no children. He served for three years in the Federal Army with the 6th Tenn. Infantry, Company B, under Col. Cooper. He joined in 1862. He was wounded by a cannon ball striking his right hip in 1864, and was mustered out of service in 1865. After his marriage, he went to Missouri and later to Kansas, but in 1915 he returned to Cade's Cove & George Washington “Carter” Shields lived in his Cades Cove cabin from 1910 through 1921. A beautiful location in which to retire, Shields was crippled in the Battle of Shiloh”
Finally! Someone knows Carter Shields real history. Except for that last sentence. He was wounded at the Battle of Resaca, Georgia in 1864. He was my Great, Great uncle as well. We're related to the Shields and the Sands from Cades Cover. Related to John Oliver too.
They didn't build cabins back then for tall people ( Doorways and such ), we've been in most of them in Cades Cove and realized these people were not very tall or they just built for security instead of comfort. Thanks, 👍👍💖💖
Most often cabins from the time period were built with lower ceilings due to the amount of labor involved, head clearance wasn't as important as shelter and protection. Thanks so much for watching!
@@misskim2058 I'll have to disagree, an uncle of mine actually built a real log cabin home decades ago (full size, doors and ceilings) as to the houses of today. He built it on the same pattern as they were built originally in the Log Cabin era. His fireplace was the correct design for the era also. His home is warm in the winter and cool in the summer, they still live in it to this day.
From what I've read there are reports of ghostly figures in the windows, doors closing for no explainable reason, and things like that. Thanks so much for watching!
Nice video. So,have you ever seen anything strange or unexplainable during your trips in the park? Any wild men or big feets or wendigo? There is some folklore of a giant bird. I can't remember the name. I will have to look it up.
I've never experienced anything like that, the most I've personally experienced are a few orbs in some photographs and some doors on cabins closing for no reasonable explanation. Thanks so much for watching!
