The Cadillac Ranch - An Artistic Icon on the Texas Prairie
The "Cadillac Ranch" is an art installation created in 1974 by Chip Lord, Hudson Marquez and Doug Michels (the art group Ant Farm). It was funded by Stanley Marsh 3. It is located just west of Amarillo, Texas, on the south side of Interstate 40. It is 10 Cadillac cars buried nose-first in the ground. They are 1949 to 1963 models. While it is on private property, the public is allowed to visit. Over the years, the cars have been subject to graffiti, which is actually encourages. So, the designs on the cars change quite often. The angle of the cars is said to replicate the angle of the pyramids of Giza. It is also known as Stanley Marsh's Cadillac Ranch.
