California Cowgirls Rodeo Drill Team
The dream of amazing a crowd with fast and fancy horses, breathtaking maneuvers, and glamorous outfits began in 1994 with the introduction of the California Cowgirls Equestrian Drill team.
The California Cowgirls are the reigning Grand National Rodeo champions; ten time California State Champions and appear at rodeos, horse shows, parades, and special events throughout California and Nevada. The Cowgirls were given the honor of being the only drill team to perform at the World Equestrian Games in 2010.
While wearing eye-catching costumes, carrying rippling American flags, and riding beautiful horses in complex maneuvers at top speed, these Cowgirls are the perfect example of the American values that built this country. Their team is made up of real tried and true Cowgirls from all walks of life. They have several mother daughter pairs, farmers, teachers, nurses, welders, and professional working Cowgirls. The California Cowgirls hail from Wilton, CA and consider their role as a California Cowgirl a combination of play and hard work made easier with the love of country, family, friends and horses.

Blue Shadows Mounted Drill Team is a non-profit equestrian organization dedicated to teaching youth in Southern California how to ride horses while learning teamwork skills and responsibility. This organization is based off of early cavalry drilling (group of horses and riders moving in various formations and units) so not only do members learn how to become a better rider, but they will learn about drill maneuvers and leadership skills as well.
Since 1957, Blue Shadows has worked to instill the qualities of horsemanship, teamwork and dedication that has kept the organization running strong for over 60 years. Blue Shadows currently has two locations within Southern California: Lake View Terrace and Newbury Park. Both of our facilities have horses available, so horse ownership is not necessary. In fact, most members do not own their own horses. Blue Shadows members participate in weekly drilling practice, horse shows, parades, trail rides and community events. In addition, our advanced teams perform in outside equestrian team competitions. The instructors, mentors and board members are all volunteers and funding for events, operating costs, member support and scholarship program comes from donations, fundraisers and sponsorships.
