I think the authenticity of the photo is questionable but I don't think the reflection hypothesis is any stronger. For one thing, if the object is in water, then we are looking down upon it, and the upper portion would be larger than the lower portion. So if the horizontal symmetry makes it impossible that we are looking up at the object in the sky, then by the exact same token, it also makes it impossible that we are looking down at it in water.

1) A body of water that can be so still as to provide a mirror-perfect reflection has to be a closed body of water, like a lake, nota river. A flowing river would not offer such stillness. 2) the fence posts are not set into the ground perfectly straight. It’s an old dilapidated fence. It’s therefore pointless trying to draw an infinity plane for determining angle of attack. 3) The topography of the area is variable. There are crests, ditches and inclines along the fence. The photographer could have been standing in a depression. 4) The distance of the UFO to the photographer determines the vertical angle with which he sees it. The further away it is from him, the lower the angle and the closer it is, the higher the angle. With lower angles, the geometry of shapes hardly changes, whereas if it was close, it would have been at a higher angle, meaning the symmetry of the object would change more. In the mock-up, the UFO looks to be far closer to the fence than in the picture. 5) The object is NOT perfectly symmetrical. If you look closely, the top of the object has a flat part to it, whereas the bottom of the object doesn’t- it’s perfectly pointy. If it was a reflection, then the bottom would also have a flat part to it…because it’s a reflection of the flat top, but it doesn’t.

Potentially lay down having a smoke / picnic and taking the shot from a prone position was my first instinct on why the fence seemed higher than the background, especially as you don’t see the bottom row of barbed wire the camera may have been pointing up from a low position. Interesting though why they would reclassify something they could easily disprove by showing the rest of the photos

they reported that it was taken in a certain area, with no water but the photo could have been taken somewhere else where there was water, because there are no landmarks.

Basically Clarke was interviewing an ex Intelligence officer that he knew from things unrelated to UFOs and the calvine topic came up. He said he came from America to interview the two hikers. The idea of it being a secret test vehicle makes more sense than anything. It was seen up the road from a US base in Scotland used specifically for American classified weapons, around the time of the problems in Kuwait, there was a D notice issued on the photographs, and if he interviewed Kevin Russel (the photographer) it explains why the photographer never came out about it, he was probably told it's classified and he'll be in trouble

I have to say though that the angle of the fence has always bothered me. However it has been analysed by the MOD (and in assuming American services) and was deemed real at the time and still is deemed to be real, as in what is seen in the picture is actually there, whatever it is (reflection, alien, us craft etc)

Could the photographer had been sitting on the ground at the time that he took the picture? It looks like a really nice place to stop and rest or have a picnic and when the incident happened the photographer just grabbed the camera and took the photo really fast without taking the time to stand up.

I’m highly sceptical of alien craft claims as I am of the Loch Ness monster - but hey if multiple ppl can high quality video such from multiple different angles I’d pay attention. But regarding fence posts in Scottish Highlands- I grew up building fences, and depending on wetness of ground/weather exposure/ ppl climbing over them: often posts will veer from their original perpendicular state by sometime comedic degree - especially with age (they tend to rot at ground level due to wet climate). Often enough it’s the fence they’re stapled to holding the post up rather than the other way round as originally intended lol. I enjoyed the analysis though, and keep up the interesting work

Perhaps they were sitting and the fence was in a different location at that time. It seems like an old fence, so I don’t think this would be the case. Great video!

I am a Scottish professional photographer who lives and works in Scotland and I can confirm that the wonky field posts displayed in the image are not that unusual. The image seems to have been shot on Ilford XP chromatic black and white film which has been processed through C41 colour chemicals. I have used this film on numerous occasions and it displays all the hallmarks of it being the film of choice. This has likely lead to the ‘colour photo’ confusion due to it being processed through colour chemicals. I doubt that the narrow river that passes through the area would have been wide enough to create the illusion of a UAP ‘rock’ floating in the sky. The jet is also the correct way up. Are you saying that this has been inserted later or that a toy model has been used? If I had to speculate I would say that the diamond shaped object is an experimental military craft. I suspect the testing of new craft over quiet rural areas is a very common practice.

Maybe sitting in front of the fence looking up and with a very wide angle lens. Would angle the posts outwards and show them further apart making you think they were sitting further back, but we're close and still able to get so many posts in the pic.

I agree with your comments about the angle of the object towards the camera, it looks like the camera man was at the same height up in the air as the object, looking directly at the edge of the object. We should see more of the bottom of the object. I also wonder if the image of the jet is too sharp, I might be wrong about that. When I first saw the "found" photo I was surprised that the background is different from the "reconnected" photo that was organised by Nick Pope. If he wanted an accurate reconstruction, why not copy the original scenery as well. Also, all the talk about the original being the "clearest" photo of a ufo, it seems a bit fuzzy to me, like all ufo photos.

I agree re the objects angle, unlikely to catch it perfectly side on.

i get the reflection idea, but how you are going about it i am not so convinced on still - because if you going by the angle of the fence posts, then there is quite a steep view down to the supposed water and in which case i dont think you would get a symmetrical reflection on a object from that position, you might some so reflection but it will be altered by the angle too. Currently the objects reflection looks like it is being viewed almost directly from a horizontal point of view. Also the overhanging tree would too overhanging in that in instance and looks to be not too close to teh view - that is too much and too low that such a tree might over hang, - its shadow and general occlusion of light would have some effect i think. i think fences up on windy hills are often sloping this way or that, especially older ones, so i wouldnt be basing the debunking on that the fences alone. I think its a real photo of an aircraft , but the ufo has been in so wany inserted into the image - i dont know how, whether it was some prop there or done afterwards. I never get the sense of the ufo being somethign actually there. It also never really appeared to me to be a spinning top style ufo either - if it is somethign, it looks like mike some diamond shaped spear head, but the shadow of it just doesnt seem right it could still be the reflection theory i guess, just if the angle of view is not too downwards, - just dismiss the aspect of the fence, its too unreliable to base things on. Though again, just how bright it gets to the top left, doesnt make me think of a pond or lake reflection, and nor does the supposed gray horizon aspect at the bottom, - with such a clear reflection going on, you are not going to get a nice like gradation of some waters edges, - its going to be starker in contrast still. I don't know, it still just looks like actual distant hills to me. I am trying to tell myself its a band, but my mind is telling me it is atmospheric perspective. Usually when a debunking happens, once the reveal is given, its hard to ever see the original story, but with this i am still seeing primarily a jet and sky and horizon. I dont know if the ufo is real or fake. Overall i would have to still then dismiss the photo as its too uncertain still for me to be reliable as proof

I don't think they were ever classified, the story makers (including in many cases the government themselves) could easily make such claims and produce some vaguely official looking prop documents.

@0:46 The Ministry of Defense (MoD) has not classified the 5 other photos. The MoD has declassified everything except the name of the hikers (which is standard procedures). They didn't re-classify anything. The MoD has only one photo, they did not kept the other five which were of lower quality.

I think that fence is angled at the top as in a security fence.

Looking at this another way, the guys present that took the pictures, told the newspaper it was flying. Now given that they have kept their identities private for decades and they haven’t attempted to monetise it at all, could this be exactly what they say?

I also believe a hoax is most likely. The photographers told the MOD they were scared and laid/crouched down under the trees to take the photos, so if they are to be believed, they would be pointing the camera upwards (ru-vid.comkQqt0d34nbI?feature=share&t=2914). Also, the RAF officer who had the photo said the jet was in various positions in the other photos, sometime on the left, sometime on the right (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IgekUVzMSCc.html), which suggests the jet was there and not a stick. Still doesn't explain the object symmetry and pole angles.

I have heard that the object was a type of balloon that was used as a radar reflector for testing experimental radar, not unusual for that type of thing to occur in that part of the world.

The photographer was taking photos of a harrier jet flying through the valley at the same time a temperature inversion caused the clouds to drop and obscure the hill peak that's usually visible in the background there. They saw that it looked like a UFO, so tried selling the photos to the local papers.

You are also missing one thing. If it IS a reflection in the water, then the photographer made a lie, a hoax, and the photo could have been taken anywhere in the world, så looking after water in that area doesn't make sense ;) ...it could also explain why he has bin hiding since 1990. But! If the really are photos where you CAN se the landscape, our theories are wrong, but like always in the UFO-world, the best and final important photo are missing.

The funniest part to me is in Brittan you're allowed to hike wherever you please. You can trespass on people's properties to see the squirrels or whatever it is these geezers do. Imagine over the years, thousands of hikers turn up on your land and take photos of your fence and you don't know why.

Also….. couldn’t the “jet” still be a reflection of an actual jet? Because it’s “below” the UFO (rock) there could be a jet flying in the sky and that’s what the reflection is? When I hear information like that, it’s instantly been discredited. Someone, at least one person out there would be able to find more than one of these images.

The perspective issue with the UFO is the thing anyone should immediately realise, not sure how some people manage to miss that. Also the issue with the plane. If we’re looking at the plane in the sky from underneath, we should expect it’s left wing (given the direction it’s travelling in the image) to be slightly larger than it’s right wing because it’s left wing would be on the side further away from us/the photographer. But this isn’t the case in the image, the left wing appears to be smaller. However, this would actually make sense if this is a reflection because in that case we would be looking down on the underside of the plane rather than looking up, which explains the wing above is smaller than the wing below.

I’m not saying it’s real but as you say there is no where you can stand and not see the the hill. The pic at 8:10 if you stood at the left hand side a couple of metres away from the fence you would standing below the bottom of the fence so you would only just see the hills behind, like the photo.

Your man talking about the perspective of the picture regarding the plane is a bit mixed up .looking at the picture and colour mock up picture the plane is travelling from right to left therefore the left wing top or reflection is the nearest wing to the photographer so would look larger than the right wing !We can also see the tail so if the plane was flying level you would not see it reflected in the water OK if it was banked to right or left you probably would see a tail reflection but I do not think you adequately explained the plane as you did the rock reflection which I believe is very credible can you clarify in that regard ?

Retired cinematographer here…. It appears to be an island/rock in the water, The “airplane” is not a harrier , but a boat or ship. The bow is the “tail” of the boat and the “bottom wing” of the plane is either a man sitting in the boat or the pilot house of the boat reflecting in the water beneath the boat….just a theory but on a cloudy day the still waters read as the sky they are reflecting

If the incident is a hoax, then why would the military classify a hoax for another 50 years and only release the single 'debunkable' picture...? This picture sure does look like a reflection in water, but the real question is : what do the other pictures look like?

The Calvine photos are authentic and show a craft. The British DOD took this case very seriously. This was an experimental craft - U.S. Military deep black.

You're forgetting that this is one of six pictures that the daily record and the MOD had in their possession

this is 100% junk... you and everyone else are attempting to do fine analysis on a facsimile of an image, not an original image... it's a huge waste of time, backgrounds are washed out by mist fog, you aren't sure of location even... one big waste of everybody's time

Sorry, you got that one really 100% wrong it was not water it was in the sky, a photographer who saw the original higher quality exposures in a x 25 loupe confirms the sky was visible the negatives this was an out of focus copy by the way, you got that real wrong take the loss
