Great camera . The camera motor drive that u can buy as an extra allows you to use AA batteries. It also has a double exposure mode . Great video as usual

The EOS 5 has 5 AF points and it uses infra red to detect where you are looking. I actually use the eye controlled AF quite a lot, on my EOS 5, and it’s incredibly accurate.
The eye focus control works brilliantly for me, there is also a DoF sensor in the top left of the screen, which you didn't mention. I get the feeling you don't really know this camera very well. The top plate, by the way, is metal not plastic! In all the years I've been using my 50e the door latch has never failed. The 50e is a quality SLR camera which, like anything else, needs to be looked after and handled with respect.
I do use my camera, but there are certain features, like the DOF button, that I never use. You made a good point-I should have mentioned that. My camera’s door snapped open mid-roll, and I found out that you can buy a latch replacement from eBay. After a quick Google search, I discovered that faulty latches are quite common, not just with some Canon models, but also with Nikon cameras like the F100, which is known for its weak door latch. Recently, the door on my Canon Elan 7 broke as well. It’s just plastic and age; these cameras were never designed to last this long. Anyway, I hope you keep enjoying your camera. Eye control works great once you get it set up.Two door latches broke on mine also. I have a big piece of masking tape over the door latch on one of mine. Seems to work okay like that.
