I agree, 100%. The NHL marketing is so broken because they think TikTok videos or IG reels of fancy stick work will build the "fans of tomorrow." What builds fans of tomorrow are stories and lore of a game. THIS is what this channel is doing (either knowingly or not, while I suspect they know very well what they are doing.)

I think people are underestimating the the psychological strength that coach Tocchet has built into these guys. He's drilled into them a playing style that will help them win games and he's helped them to establish a psychology that will enable them to not deviate from that style when things don't go right. No single skill or combination of skills (defense, offense, speed, etc) will win you a championship. You need the skills plus psycological readiness to overcome situations that can cause you to abandon your training and choke. I think with these teams the skills are nearly a wash but the Canucks are stronger in the mental department. Canucks in 6.

For talk and I don't mean to be provocative, but I would argue this hasn't always been the case in Vancouver in the teams of the past. Former teams ('94 especially) did not quit but they couldn't adapt their game like the club does this year, IMHO. This club is double good....

@@gnyphq6405 Alain Vigneault was a great coach during the 2011 run, but he was either slow to adjust to changing situations or didn't adjust at all and that was his downfall. We knew the 2024 Canucks could play a loose style of game, but the Nashville series taught them to play tight, tough, defensive hockey over the duration of a series. The start of game 1 was almost like culture shock for the Canucks after making it out of round 1.

Some thoughts I had watching: JT Miller watched a lot of Crosby growing up in our hometown of Pittsburgh. If the Canucks win this series, QH is the only choice to captain Team USA at the FNFO next year. Time to see how CK handles adversity, but also losing by 1 away isn't actually so bad once you think about it. Zadorov's personality really came through in the postgame. If I could snap my fingers and be at any position in the league, it would be being his linemate(sorry Ian!) I had been Oilers in 7, now Canucks in 7 purely because of the current lead. Excellent matchup, and this Pittsburgher is very very happy to see Tocchet, Gonchar and JT Miller beat the not-best-player-in-the-world.

This Canucks team is one of the most resilient teams in any sport I've ever seen. It's also remarkable while they make mistakes they're REALLY GOOD at not letting those mistakes be fatal. Basically nothing can happen that prevents them from playing a complete game

While I would trade anything to have my team in the Playoffs (Blackhawk), it can still be really fun watching the NHL Playoffs without having a true rooting interest in the games. I still can't believe what just happened in this game! What an amazing comeback! This is just my opinion, but the most incredible thing about the Vancouver comeback was how well the Defense just absolutely shut Edmonton DOWN! How long did they go without even taking a single shot on Goal?!? Yet, I hope Canucks fans don't get too over confident. Consider that it could have been 5 or even 6 to 1 at one point, but for a great Goalie save and one puck hitting the crossbar. I get the feeling that this series is far from over. Even after taking this gut punch, Edmonton is still dangerous, still capable of winning this series. (I know, obviously right?!?) Anyway, good luck to bothe teams and both fan bases. This should be the best series in the 2024 playoffs!

Since the Canucks have so much depth, they can allow more time to lower lines, which means they're not relying on a tired first line when they reach the third period. Everyone still has their legs, but the other team is drained. You can call them comeback kings, but it really is is *stamina*. The later the game goes, the better we are. Just hope you don't end up in an OT with us.
@bananian

Yeah in the first period i was thinking holy crap the Oiler players have such an insane fast tempo! Canucks couldn't get set up at all. It would have been hopeless had the Oilers played like that the whole game. But now i see that it was probably not sustainable. Having said that, the Oilers will probably be more aggressive on the forecheck throughout next game so it will be a lot tougher for the Canucks. Hopefully nux is able to force turnovers which oilers does a lot and their goalie is a sieve. Nux have proven thst they are only human, and they bleed!

The Garland goal was straight out of the Garland playbook too. He often fakes clapper then shoots low off the rush. There are interviews where he talks about how he doesn't think he has the shot to beat goalies from distance so he tries to be deceptive with his shooting. Very smart player.

If you were in the downtown core last night, the screams rising up through distant windows was chilling! In the most beautiful way. I get a sneaky feeling Rick Tocchet's presence in an arena is starting to shit scare other teams. He just doesn't give a fuck, never gets rattled, and neither does the team. If they are up, they don't give a shit. If they are down and out, they don't give a shit. If an 8 Richter whacks Roger's Arena, they don't give a shit. This is absolutely the most well coached team in the NHL.

Rick tocchet was like that during his playing career too I think. Im not old enough to have watched him but his stats and power forward gritty style of play in the 80’s and 90’s iv heard that he played, definatly makes this team know how to play hard playoff hockey

@@NerdAlert66 , I was never big on the planned fighting shit in games, but I was curious a few days ago about how tough he was as a player and watched a few old videos. Not only was he a great forward, he was an absolute animal in a couple of the fight clips I saw! Actually quite terrifying. I hate to say it, but I do think we kind of benefit from it. If we come up against a savage animal team like Boston again, we are going to want that behind the bench. The guy is 100% for real.
