Very good been riding since I was 8 years old, now I am 70, Bought a 2024 XT250 a few months ago, and happy I did, fun little machines and plenty of pep for a small bike, gets me around in the woods and also can handle 65 mph all day long and if you need to pass a rig it will hit 70+ before you realize it. Sips fuel, I get 80 mpg most of the time and enjoy the electric start and fuel injection.

I'm late to the party lol. Getting back into riding after 15 years of not being on 2 wheels. I was looking at both these bikes this fall. I used to ride motocross and trials. What it came down to for me... I wont be going fast in the trees or hitting jumps now that I am 60 lol. So I went with the XT250 for the low speed power/grunt more like a Trials bike.

The bikes are indeed very capable, it is my skill that limits me...but I keep trying. Thanks for the great video!

Thanks Craig! it's a good bike to develop your skills on. I've learned a lot. The bike has never been the limiting factor.

Two of the best bikes in the 🌎! VictoriaZ and Momo are one of the big reasons I bought my first Yamaha, which is an XT250. I'm waaaay to short for a WR250. What an outstanding presentation that offers us what these two bikes have to offer. Great footage. Thanks for sharing 👍

Thanks for that comment! Victoria and I joke that we've sold a lot of Yamaha's over the years. We both love ours and are not supported or compensated by the company in any way! ha ha That was a couple of good days of riding in that video.

For taller riders / more road riding, the WR250. For mostly trail riding, the XT250 because of its light weight and more torque down low.

Great ride. I owned both the XT250 and the WR250R simultaneously. I ended up selling the WR250r because it was more bike than I needed for just putting through my woods. It was also a little tall for my 5'8" size. If I were doing more road riding - I would have kept the WR250R. It had impressive ride quality on and off road. #purplecollarlife

The same. I sold Wr250 ‘09, but xg250 ‘04 (xt250 brother) still with me. It s lower, lighter, better on low rpm for my wood trails) for long distance rides i bought DL650XT V-Strom.

Watched many of your videos and I am also in Massachusetts looking at picking up a WR, is there a way to contact you to run some questions by you? It would be great to get your advice being a fellow Northeast rider on a WR. Subscribed!

Thank you for taking us along and the narration! Please expand on your comment at ~4:38 ~"Here the weight and suspension travel of the XT250s is key". Are you saying the XT250's light weight is in the riders favor and the compliant suspension gives the bike a great deal of agility to carry the rider through the rough?

A great rider even if they're short can still ride a tall bike. Just remember to put your leg out on the high side. 😮 Sometimes a lighter, better quality tall bike will be easier for experienced riders. Short riders with a basic bike can benefit from more aggressive dirt knobbie tyres, make them hard / intermediate terrain if you ride on the blacktop. Ride safely.

The WR is one of those bikes that can literally do anything as long as the rider has the skillset. XT is great for puttzing around and for really short folks (especially beginners), but you start riding it faster and harder in more technical terrain and you start to hit its limits pretty quick with the lower clearance, weaker chassis, and less stout/travel suspension. Both great bikes

I'm 5'8" and a pretty novice rider, however I want to get into dual sport riding with an end goal of riding some of the 'Back-country discovery routes' in Oregon and maybe Idaho. Would this be a good fit? As a shorter rider I hear this or the TW200 are good choices, but is it forgiving going from road to trail on longer distances (like a discovery route)?
@Doorsfan13
@Doorsfan13 Год назад
Man. XT250 is the beast for you 100%. If you have NO experience riding, be careful with the torque and the weight will be something to get used to, but it's not a heavy bike at all compared to most others and it can handle quite a bit. More than you'll be able to throw at it in the next few years. Not currently running trail, but when I did I rode for probably 30-60mins on road, then 2-3 on trail, then another 30-60 back on the road and it handled that with no problems at all. Beat it up pretty good too lol. I've ridden it in mud, snow, as long as you're reasonably mindful it's an excellent bike overall and a FANTASTIC starter bike that still has the guts to handle a little pushing. There's room to grow on it for sure.

@@Doorsfan13 I appreciate the input, after looking at the Honda 300, and the Kawasaki, I feel like the Yamaha will be the best fit, this spring I’ll have to put my money where my mouth is.

Is the XT harder to handle with the additional weight?
@DualsportChic
@DualsportChic 2 года назад
Never had an issue but the bike is not meant for a 200 lb + rider as it will overwhelm the stock suspension. Cogent Dynamics makes an aftermarket suspension kit for the XT that can solve for that as well as allow the bike more easily conquer technical terrain. I’ve added the kit to this bike and it has made a noticeable improvement.

Nice video! What tire pressure are you running front/rear?
@DualsportChic
@DualsportChic 8 месяцев назад
I run 2 psi down from mfg spec (Rear 20/Front 23) on the XT 250 while in the dirt - gives a bit more traction and sure-footedness. On the pavement (Rear 22/Front 25).

I want WR250R with the same seat height as xt250. I hate Yamaha for making the seat too height. But Yamaha Motorcycle is my first choice as Ilike the Design, and Reliability based on my experienced. I used to ride Yamaha DT125 1982/1983 2 stroke liquid cooled engine with 32.2 seat height for 2 years on rocky mountains, deep mud, and so on all seasons and never had ground clearance issue. XT 250 is too ugly in my eyes and I don't like Air Cooled engine for off road bike even though I like the seat height.
@AdventuresWithMe00
@AdventuresWithMe00 2 года назад
I haven't researched it, but maybe you could lower a WR with lowering links and sliding the forks down into the triple tree?
@doobielawson702
@doobielawson702 2 года назад
Just my two cents here. I have a buddy who is 6'3 who had a wr250r, great bike. I rode it a few times and quickly figured out that at 5'7 the WR was not for me. I have had a KLX 250, it was ok. For the last 9 years I've been on a crf250L. The seat height is great. I put on some mods to increase the power. I've had tons of fun on it. If the WR was the same height, I would have gone with that. I don't think you can lower the WR down to the 250L's level, I could be wrong on that though.
@quikboarder93
@quikboarder93 2 года назад
You can get a lowering link as well as a low seat by Seat Concepts. Still not sure if it will be low enough for you, but it would make a big difference

If you get stuck put the bike in first gear then jump off while holding onto the grips of the bike with the clutch pulled in. Then let go of the clutch and give it some gas it’ll pull itself out of the hole most of the time.
