The Outrider is my favorite ship from the Star Wars EU. I was introduced to it with the Shadows of the Empire video game for N64 and I always thought it was a major improvement over the design of the Falcon. I am planning on using it in conjuction with Wedge to finally take down a friend's TIE Phantom.
I *need* this ship. And I give up. I'm just going to plan on picking up every expansion in this game. I've quickly learned it's pointless to have hope that I'd do anything else. /sigh... I miss the money in my wallet I never had. :(
This was the first ship I bought, not because of the game, but because it was my favorite ship and Dash Rendar is my favorite character. I have not regretted it since then, because I have been playing the game for awhile, and remain undefeated.
I had an X-Wing and a LAAT and used them as toy's. I never knew that these figures were from a board game until last week. Kinda makes me want to be a kid again to play with them and make a board to play it with my brother and cousin. I still think the LAAT and X-Wing lying around somewhere.
Another insightful review that explains potential synergy between cards. Still haven't had time to play just watch vids sporadically. When you're discussing the Outrider card towards the end why can't you use a secondary weapon at range 1? I read some of the FA core Rules Reference but couldn't find that. Or is that a New Rule included with the ship? Thanx!
I think that I was directly referencing the Heavy Laser Cannon, which is the go-to weapon for the Outrider title. It's range is 2-3 so it has a range 1 safe zone for enemy ships, since the title disables use of the primary weapon.
The Cardboard Dungeon I see now how the two cards work together. I was just looking at the cannon card. I guess if I had them in a hand next to each other I would have seen that but that's still good clarification. Thanx! I bought this recently because of this review. I hope you're making some adsense money on the vids ; ) If I ever happen to do X-W videos I'd probably just do unboxings to show every last piece but your one of a few who'd I give a shout out to for learning from. It'd be the type of thing "I learned this from X" or "X knows more about it than I do so check them out” ie I’m not going to pretend to be the source of info until I know what I’m talking about fwiw. Admittedly the card wording in this game from what I’ve seen so far could be clearer it’s sort of terminology shorthand for brevity however once I look at the FA Reference booklet it hopefully will make more sense. I’m doing vids on the WizKidz Packet Model TCG that on the surface looks similar but those cards spell it out pretty well. You just have to watch out for “all units” vs “opposing units” vs “friendly units” in the text on cards that are otherwise the same for example. It’s not quite as complex but there’s synergy in deck & unit building so it might make learning X-W easier fwiw
I had the idea of flying the two together as well, Chewbacca and Leebo are both very tanky pilots with decent damage potential. My build is different to that of most people; Chewbacca + Predator + Jan Ors + C-3PO + Millennium Falcon"Leebo" + Predator + Recon Specialist + Outrider + "Mangler" CannonPredator gives Chewbacca a bit of bite, especially against swarms with lower Pilot Skill. With Jan Ors on Chwebacca and Recon Specialist on Leebo, Leebo can gain a focus and an evade every turn as long as they stay within range 3 of each other. C-3PO and the Millennium Falcon essentially gives Chewbacca two evades every turn. I figured Leebo would get more use out of Recon Specialist than Chewie as he rolls more dice (thus more chances to roll eyes) while Chewie has more evade tokens and more overall HP to keep Jan Ors in play longer. If C-3PO makes Chewie too much of a target early game, they can be swapped over and Leebo can give Chewie the focus + evade, though this is much less efficient imo.
Thanks! I like both Wave 5 ships a lot. I like that they both bring a lot of good options to their respective factions. The upgrade cards bring a lot of neat options to the game for the older ships as well. Wave 5 is a fantastic expansion in that respect as well.
They called it "Chewieebo. which is basically using Chewie and Leebo as the pilots for their respective ships. Leebo had the Outrider title with Jan Ors, Predator, and Mangler Cannon Chewie had the Millennium Falcon title, with C3-PO, Recon Specialist, and also Predator.
Kinda hoping this ship gets some Scum pilot cards in the future (similar to the Firespray). Maybe placed in a Scum Huge ship. IMO the ship in the link would be a good Scum Huge; it was used by Crime Lord Tyber Zann. starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Crusader-class_corvette
Derek Taylor Here's a link to the BGG listing for X-Wing. About halfway down the page is a listing of every current and known future wave and which ships they contain. Hope that helps! www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/103885/star-wars-x-wing-miniatures-game
Thisson Sorry if I wasn't more clear in the video - I was talking about ships with turret primary weapons. The Y-Wing and HWK-290 can (and should almost always) make use of turrets via their turret upgrade slots. So yes, three ships with turret primary weapons, five ships total with turret capabilities.
I have a question about the build for the outrider?... Can you use Dash as a pilot and also a crew member to be able to hide on obstructions as well as attack? And can marksmanship be used with the heavy laser Cannon?
+Gabriel Prieto Dash Rendar is a unique name, and the rules state that you can never have two cards with the same unique name (indicated by the dot to the left of the name) in the same squadron. So, no Dash pilot with Dash crew. Marksmanship works with Heavy Laser Cannon.
spaceman022 as soon I saw the word "the ebon hawk" all I could think of was me repetively failing the mission in knights of the old republic to steal the ebon hawk
Nigel King Good catch; yeah that's my mistake. I think I must have gotten ion and stress tokens mixed up in my head. Anyway, change my statement to "you'll want pilots or upgrades that help out stress on enemy ships..." Y s
That's a tough pairing. In order to get both, you'd need to sacrifice the "best build" options of one of them. For example, if you took TLT and an Attack Shuttle on the Ghost, you wouldn't be able to also have the Outrider title and Heavy Laser Cannon on the YT-2400. When faced with a decision like that, it's better to take an optimally-built small ship instead of a suboptimal Ghost or YT-2400.
"Large ship won't move as far, but will move a descent length". This is wrong actually. A large ship actually does move slightly FURTHER than a small ship when doing a barrel roll, even with the side turned marker. A small ship moves 8cm (2 regular ships lengths). A large ship moves 10.5cm.
Foolster41 Yeah I should have been more clear there. What I meant is it doesn't move as far to the side as it would if the template was perpendicular (as with small ships). If the template were placed the same way it would move a HUGE distance.
+Rylan Joran - Not true! The Outrider makes a cameo in the special edition of A New Hope. In the Mos Eisley scene, you can see it lifting off and flying away. Now, I realize that this is a tenuous connection to the new canon, but I'm pretty sure Lucas is on record somewhere saying that it is indeed the Outrider and not some random YT-2400 freighter...
+The Cardboard Dungeon Well, then I stand corrected. I quite liked Dash Rendar, I just didn't like his clothing. Had they only dressed him more appropriately.....he looks like a saturday morning cartoon hero.
+Rylan Joran - Couldn't tell you for sure if Dash Rendar himself makes the cut into official canon or not (probably not) but it's definitely on record that the Outrider makes that cameo appearance.
If it was 4x bigger than it would make it a 4x4 base meaning it would be the size 16 fighters. So you are wrong and it is only twice the size of a standard ship.
