Some maybe little known or unknown facts about Jean-Sebastian Giguere. Was consider a bust in the years years due to actually ripping both of his knees out once in Halifax in the CHL before ripping the other knee out while playing in AHL of the Flames farm team. Was consider to be done at that point of his career since he couldn`t move side to side like he used too. Spend a full off season learning to play his famous blocking style of goaltending due to his injuries; which then lead to most of his success with the Ducks. This guy took a lot of hard knocks along his career and still put up some very impressive numbers. Also had issue drinking water and crapping issues while in Calgary; which is why they gave up on him but fixed by drinking from a straw placed in his water bottle. Which was also fixed by the Ducks. Just never gave up!!

One of the greatest shutdown performances in hockey history. Giguere allows only 6 goals in 4 games ( two OT games) to the defending Stanley Cup Champions. I remember sitting 10 rows off center ice, and listening to the Moody Blues song " Please Go Away " , 🤣, on the public address system, as the Ducks completed the 4 game sweep. Giguere was from that day labeled " the difference " in Anaheim. With him in net, it was the first time as a fan that I felt like they had a decent chance to beat any team in the league.

He came in to more or less replace Toskola, so he had small skates to fill. So there wasn't as much pressure on him, and fans respected his pedigree. The thing I remember is in that second season it became apparent he was having groin pull issues, and I think in the off season, before the Avs picked him up he had surgery. I thought at the time he was a steal for a back up.

That 03 run was so damn fun to watch, but really hard to see him not win that year. I wanted Anaheim to beat New Jersey so bad! The kind of career Giguere had is one of the reasons why i love the sport so much. Hockey is a hard sport to play and to try and get to the NHL is so difficult. So when a player (I don’t care what position it is), it’s just so easy to cheer for them when they are finally able to get to that level where they go on a run for a while or end up having a really good career..i just love it!

Huge heroic run in 03, one of the best play-off performances I've seen. While Thomas and Quicks runs were perhaps more acrobatic, ingenious and I guess you can say more Roy-like, I'd say Gigueres was just as impressive. Apart from that he wasn't an outstanding player during the regular season and I guess he's one of those that will be overlooked and forgotten by those who didn't see him the longer we get from his retirement.

@@paulmoore7635 As a goalie myself, I'm sorry to say but you're completely wrong. The equipment was standardized to a reduced size post lockout. All equipment needed to go through an approval process to see action in the show. So if he had a piece of gear that was "oversized", it was within spec. Not only that, but the size decrease came in 04. He won the cup with stellar numbers in 07. In addition, having larger equipment doesn't automatically correlate to better save percentages.
