I live in Alaska and I was an academic growing not knowing sports. A couple of Canadian friends introduced me to hockey by inviting me to watch them play in an isolated small town league of very little teams. I was hooked. I asked them what a good team to like was, them being Canadian one said The Canucks and the other said The Leafs. So I watched a few games and I watched The Bruins in 2010 at the start of the season and I was hooked. They made fun of me picking my team as a champion team but I loved their style, aggression and tenacity. Been watching them since my first Bruins game. I've watched Bergeron continue to be such a consistent impact on the team taking hits for the team, assisting rather than looking for personal glory. Always helping and striking when he can and never being selfish. Setting up goals for other players and being a genuine leader all around. I am going to frame my Bergeron jersey on my wall next to my framed Orr famous photo. Bergeron received all those trophies because he deserves them and WILL be in the HOF and his description as the "perfect hockey player" is 100% correct. Gonna miss yah tons Bergey. God bless your retirement and your family.

I will say this about Patrice, there is not a single coach, player, fan, and frankly any fan of hockey that wouldn't or didn't want him on their team. He was the identity of those Bruins teams and regardless of who else was playing you knew as an opponent that going up against him meant it was going to be a long night. I hated having to go up against him every time but that is only said out of the respect I had for him as a player. Loved watching him play and low key I cheered a few times when he scored against my team lol. I mean how could anyone not love the guy? He was first and foremost class personified.

Without a doubt, a top 10 all-time Bruin. Put him on the ice with anyone on any Bruin team and he belongs there. King of the Selke, an offensive defenseman who could have had a half dozen more international medals, was closer to 3 Cups than most get to 1 (which he has), and part of one of the greatest regular season teams in league history. I'd cut the wait time, for sure. Genuinely don't think there's been as big a retirement (considering his career) since Ray Bourque. Who, keep this in mind, had to leave Boston to retire with the Cup. Bergeron never left Boston, spent his entire career with the team after they drafted him. And before Bourque, I'd say it was probably Gretzky. And in both of those examples, I wouldn't say their last years were quite on the level of Bergeron's last year (Bourque won the Cup, but it was nowhere near his best season). Did he have the best playoff exit? No, and that hurts a bit. But realistically, this year was still one of his top 5 best ever. He was a pretty big reason they steamrolled everyone but the Panthers. And while Leafs fans might cheer now that he's gone, even they have to respect the work he put in and the fight he had.

As a fan of hockey and the NHL i respect Bergeron for the two way game he played. Happy retirement to Patrrice Bergeron.

That was a sad moment in Boston and certainly one of my favorite players of all time

Never once heard a bad word about Bergeron in spite of how disliked the Bruins are league-wide and that tells you something. He was a respected leader, decorated with accomplishments and quietly racked up points. Maybe the quietest 1000 points ever.

That's because his offensive peak was very unimpressive. He was great defensively and had great longevity. But his peak seasons were far below many others of his generation.

The thing to remember with Bergeron is that he was never on a team that priorited offense. If he did, he'd have way more points. Same thing with Datsyuk. They played shutdown roles on balanced d first teams during the dead puck era

Heartbroken. It was to be expected, but oof. We lost the heart and soul of this team.
