What I love about her voice is that her low notes are still loud and not muddy. At the same token, for an alto her upper range is pretty impressive. No pushing or shouting. Very controlled. God given talent. May she Rest In Peace.

Richard was the one who figured out the sweet spot of her range. Brilliant arrangements were his strength not many people recognized. What a duo, love seeing her rock on the drums too. Voice of an angel.
Never has there been a voice that can make me so extraordinarily happy and so profoundly sad at the same time like Karen Carpenter's can. That last low note she hits brings tears to my eyes every time. What a gift she was, and is.
I was 5 when she left us. I remember my mom taking it hard. When I was 15, my father said to me, “wanna hear the most beautiful voice ever.” He then played Karen singing Ave Maria. She has been a big part of my music collection ever since.

I love Ave Maria always have since I was a child, I even fell out of the loft (attic) whilst cleaning it (I was engrossed in the song) I was singing along with Karen and totally forgot about the hatch, well I fell through, landed on my feet lost my balance on the small landing below and fell off head first down the stairs narrowly missing the glass door at the bottom without so much as a scratch on me! All I could say for over an hour was: 'Aghh...' I am sure some devine being protected me as I have heard of people who landed on their feet from a hight breaking all manner of bones and to this day (over 30 years later) I still love Ave Maria x

Karen had no idea of how beautifully she sang. She had the heavenly voice that was a gift from GOD. There's no one else in this World that can sing as eloquently as she did.

@@rgaryc1111 Charles Goudod invented the melody for vocals, took the prelude from the Wohltemperiertes Klavier by Bach and created a wonderful song. I also prefer the Ave Maria by Franz Schubert you mentioned. 👍
@@rgaryc1111 Schubert wrote another Ave Maria with a different but very lovely melody. This melody is by Charles Gounod, written over Bach’s Prelude in C major (from the well-tempered clavier) with a few liberties taken with chord progressions.
Just heard this rendition for the first time as part of the bonus content at the very end of a documentary, "Close to You: Remembering the Carpenters" that i just watched. What a fitting end to a thoughtful tribute to a wonderful musical legacy. Karen, we love you and I'm sure you're making music with the angels.
