@Van Dogs - I’m a Big Fan of The Cars - I’m here for example - but your description brings to my mind The Clash ahead of The Cars. “London Calling,” the masterpiece album of The Clash, spans musical genres, giving each a punk-rock sound/edge.
@@ellab8897: The Clash, Sex Pistols, The Jam, and so many more were certainly great, but (to me) The Cars were extremely unique ... and home-grown, which made them that much more special.
@@vandogs181- Good points. Because the first song by The Cars that I heard is ‘My Best Friend’s Girl,’ I did not think of them as being punk-rock. ‘Just What I Needed’ rocks and has the “someone to bleed - so bleed me!” (It also has Benjamin singing lead, which doesn’t hurt). That intrigued me. The punk elements are definitely there, especially in early songs. As you pointed out, The Cars had a sound uniquely their own. It’s not easily categorized. That they’re American, not British, does make The Cars special.
@@vandogs181- Hi. I haven’t yet used the link you provided. I can’t find it now, which is frustrating. Anyway, I have the uneasy feeling we’re in a dispute, one I didn’t intend. I think of The Cars as being a highly versatile band, whose versatility includes punk rock. ‘Take What You Want’ is totally punk rock, an example of the punk songs by The Cars. Their own unique sound/style is in every song they did. Being an American band makes The Cars extra special.
Another great video with great music. I really think that's the whole thing about the Cars . Often I don't even know what the lyrics are and I don't care. It's the driving beat and the sound that's what made them so good! According to all I've read when they would come in to rehearse for a new album all of the members would have im put on the music of each song. All until the last album D2D when Ric took over and we know where that went!
I wish I had paid more attention to this song in high school and later in life- I would have had a lot more fun withe the girls rather than being so uptight about how they treated me or tried to make a fool of me. Abuse me, mock me, reject me flirt with the other guys on a date: I DON'T CARE, but I will still ask you out anyway and maybe I can persuade you we CAN fun together, but that's all I care about. Best lesson-you are bullet proof. Lot of fish in the sea.
