tom is neither gray nor blue but both at the same time. due to production restrictions the paint colors would change a bit as well as actual age on the film & animation cels changing their colors too
The term cal arts style actually originated in the 90s with the Disney renaissance. Disney helped get the school going in the 60s, and many animators over the 20th century attended there. The Disney renaissance of the 90s honed in the style they animated with and that was the cal arts style. So when people get mad over new shows looking the same and calling it the cal arts style, it’s ironic because the name was given to the look of 90s Disney and every network trying to emulate that art style. Also, the gif comparing Steven, gravity falls, star, and gumball takes all those shows out of their art style to “compare how similar they are”
The captain planet overpopulation episode concluded that no family should have more than two children. The wierd and mildly damning part is that Ted turner, creator of turner broadcasting and co-creator of Captain Planet had 5 children at the time.
*Fun Fact about the Cal-Arts part:* Rebecca Sugar, the creator of Steven Universe, didn't graduated from Cal-Arts, but she was graduated from New York School of Visual Arts. So Steven Universe didn't originated the concept of the Cal-Art style. Most people complained that modern animation always used the same style all over again because it lacks the diversity and variety of stylization. If that's the reason why they have issue with the Cal-Arts style, then they should've said so.
@@TheSoCalledZoner1 I think Amazing World of Gumball has the "thick-line animation" style. Aren't people forget that Gumball has a lot of variety of art styles to fit each character's appearance and personalities as well as the environment?
You're making a complete pedantic, facile argument. People say "cal-arts style" because of the sheer, overwhelming number of shows that come from people who went to that one school. SVA is almost as prevalent to the point where people could use "SVA style" interchangeably with calarts style. No who on earth has ever said Stephen Universe started this trend either: Adventure Time is widely considered to be patient zero. So congratulations on um actually-ing everyone with your subject evading little factoids.
In my opinion I think that just what the trend is right now for animation. Sure some cartoons don't follow some of the trendy styles now used. It's kinda like how the early 2000s the big style was the bold outlines. And how rubber hose style was popular way before that. I think animation styles just reflects what's popular. I'm sure the style will change soon as well.
I don't agree with the Ed, Eddy n Eddy theory, cuz of a few things: 1) The reason why their tougues are a different colour is because of the jawbreakers they suck on, as the pigment from candy can do that. This makes even more sense considering the Kanker sisters have pink tougues, since they are the only characters who don't suck on jawbreakers. 2) The endless summer one could just be a cartoon thing, as it seems that the Eds at times acknowledge that they're in a show. Like how Phineas and Ferb has 104 days of summer, which i think is longer than a usual summer. 3) I think the adults i the show are only barely shown because it's supposed to be focused on the kids and their antics.
I kinda theorize that the Mandela effect is just a result of mistakes made by creators that are just straight up lied about and denied so they can pretend they don't make mistakes
Clarence was such a creepy and unsettling show. As a kid I remember hating the hell out of it. Hearing about the creator's behaviour isn't surprising somehow.
@@Getbent5198I agree with him there were many times in the show were things were just insanely nasty or off putting like when Clarence ends up eating like tons of deviled eggs in the sun that shit made me wanna throw up💀
So a bit of a fun fact about Steven Universe, it's a board-driven show, meaning the storyboard artists have a pretty big say in how episodes will play out. This also resulted in a lot of board-artists putting in their own style or spin on the characters. This made characters look consistent within an episode, but inconsistent throughout the series. After that Luke Webber entry I had to look up which episodes he boarded to see if he was one of the styles I loved or one of the ones I hated. The only episode the SU Wiki credits him with on his page is Arcade Mania, which was kind of a mid art-style-choice for me. Though, one of the screencaps of that ep also shows Pearl having buttcheeks. They didn't give her those in many episodes, and knowing who was behind that one now I think we all know why they were added.
It's ironic SU references Sailor Moon a few times, since thats basically the anime equivalent to the same practice. Though with anime, it's usually when guest overseers/animation directors are allowed to do "their" episode in their own style; it can make for some VERY weird looking episodes when watched back-to-back and some creators become infamous (e.g., Itou's 'pretty but difficult to animate' style vs Ando's "good facial expressions but every looks like chunky soup")
You forgot some details abour Weber; He has a comic, Bikini Cowboy, a quite... interesting one to read... but for its not so subtle CP overtones. He also made a kickstarter to make a color physical edition of said comic, it even got funded, but he never released it, effectively scamming all his bakers. Such a nice guy Luke...
Kinda disappointed that Space Ghost Coast to Coast never showed up on this iceberg. It was one of Cartoon Network's first original TV shows and was also the main reason for Adult Swim's existence.
Bro, I used to play Lunchroom Rumble ALL THE TIME! One of my favorite characters to play as was Kevin. Last time I played it was like almost a decade ago, alongside other games themed as derby games under Ed Edd and Eddy, I played a lot of CN games as a kid back then.
Cannibalism was rarely practiced in Polynesian nations if ever. It was found practiced more in Melanesian nations(Papua New Guinea 🇵🇬,Fiji 🇫🇯, New Caledonia 🇳🇨,Vanuatu 🇻🇺, and the Solomon Islands 🇸🇧)
teen titans go is a good show! i grew up with the normal teen titans and while i have nostalgia for that, i’m fine with teen titans go and have laughed at it if it wasn’t related to teen titans, people would probably like it
The topless Heather seen, i do remember seeing an uncensored version as a kid but that easily could just be my childhood imagination going wild and my brain not being able to depict imagination vs reality as a kid
I was really surprised about the steven universe concrete character as the show seems to have a very tolerant and progressive message I think In one episode they even talked about how racism is wrong
It is truly a reflection of the lack of diversity in the creative team. Whether it was unintentional is irrelevant. I will bet money that the team that created Concrete did not have any person of color that understood the consequence of systematic oppression.
@@franciscoborreroiv528 when you pair that alongside the whole plot of the show being ‘Sure my mom and her friends were space Nazis and had literal slaves, but maybe they aren’t REALLY that bad 🥺’ it’s very clear they didn’t have any racial diversity in the crew.
i use to be around truth or consequences, new mexico when i was small, i saw that house passing through it i never knew that, but i always knew the house reminded me of something, never knew why though
Just made my day now I can think about everything he put into this iceberg for the rest of the day today was gonna be boring but that just changed (Aint no way Valis liked this comment 💀)
Jesus Christ, and even the fact he worked on a ton of shows I enjoy even to this day like Generator Rex. Edit: I looked it up and what the fuck, the fact he said and drew that is wow. God I could only imagine what other creepy shit hes done.
@@LocalTorchwoodIntern I first heard about after watching the video by Easy I was filled with dread but then I remembered this was the same guy who made the Steven Universe video and the same guy who admitted he want to dox Mr. Enter people wised up and figured something fishy was going on here and thanks to That Kid Douglas and Four Chan Easy's video has been mostly discredited
@@nixxgen9574 Holy shit, and the fact Luke worked on one of my favorite episodes of Gen Rex, as a storyboard artist but still, is just weird. no it doesnt ruin the episode just, I hope he didnt draw any weird shit of that cast of characters.
@@LocalTorchwoodIntern I don't know I didn't watch Generator Rex if you want the full story check out the video by That Kid Douglas, he goes into more details than I can
@@nijucow He was a liar, and his claims can be easily proven false since he had no actual evidence. One RU-vidr debunked the entire EZ PZ video if you search for it.
Bruh i remember listening to a reading of the ed edd n eddy creepypasta and near the end of the video the narrator added their OC into the story for whatever reason lmao
A crossover creepypasta type show is so weird to see on Cartoon Network. (Well adult swim). Idk, something about the actual source material being In on the idea of making a creepy or dark show about the those childhood characters hunting the main characters of this show is just weird to see, but I ain’t against it. I wonder how the show will play out
that ending when he said "later" made me feel like I had to leave lol, like get the F outa here. I love this guy! He gave no F's! He was like this is my content like or not and it was good! Im subscribing and giving it a like just off that
@@Nekoszowa what's wrong with having LGBTQIA+ characters in children's media? It's not like they're having sex or something. Plus I wouldn't say she's doing it behind CN's back
So, I never saw Youri the Spaceman on Cartoon Network. I DID, however, see this on another channel. It's rather strange, since it ran on a weird channel that showed cartoons such as Sam Sam, Lola and Virginia, Pet Alien, and a cartoon known as 2020 (Yes, this last one is real).
As a Mexican, I feel like there should've been an entry about Latin American shows. Most of those have never been aired on other parts of the world so it's something worth of being in an iceberg. I'll give an example; there was a live action show called "La CQ", it was about a bunch of high schoolers and was made in collaboration with Televisa, for most people the show was absolute garbage and in fact as a kid I wasn't even that interested on the show itself, the only reason I loved watching it was because at that time, I thought one of the main girls (whose name was Danny) was hоt. Yeah, I only watched it specifically because of one character. It was also aired on another channel (Channel 5) so I got to watch it there too.
I remember watching the mammy two shoes Tom & Jerry cartoons on Boomerang back in the mid 2000s I understand why they don't air them on TV but I wish they were on HBO Max if they have Gone With The Wind on there I see no reason to not have have ALL Tom & Jerry shorts available even if some of them didn't age the best. 4:07 Also live action programs didn't begin airing on Cartoon Network until 2007 a year after the CN City bumpers ended.
i don't remember the exact context but there was a canceled airing of a new clarence episode back when the SA claims first came out. I just remember sitting with my dad waiting for the new episode and it didn't air, stating something like due to blah blah Clarence will not be airing tonight. My dad ended up looking it up and it was due to the SA.
2:24 IIRC, someone pointed out that because there's no other people in the T&J shorts with Mammy, it kind of implies she OWNS what's actually a pretty nice house (instead of being a maid, which would fit the stereotype). I didn't know about the animation edits to replace her though; I think some modern versions just tactfully redub her voice to be a less... It's a nice gesture though its really obvious when the sound quality of an old cartoon suddenly jumps.
I don't get why its racist to simply portray a woman as dark skinned in a cartoon. It seems more racist to say that it's racist having a black woman in the cartoon but idk, people will act like a victim whenver they can these days...
