Hey YouTubians, it's Tony here with another RU-vid video! This time we go back to the CASIO G-SHOCK GW-M5610U digital watch and talk about the alarm and ask ourselves the question, is really that bad?
The reason why we ask ourselves this question is simple, we forgot to mention about it in the main review. So we thought that we would dig the watch out again, turn on the camera and concentrate on just that one part of the watch, so you can see if it is still the watch for you and your wrist.

I've commented on a few different videos how poor the alarm is. What is the point of having 5 alarms, an hourly time signal and a countdown alarm if you cannot hear them. It renders them useless. I still like my 5610U though

Casio and all other watch maker all should, minimum given 1 minute of beep sound, 10 seconds or 20 seconds is meaningless in my view.

Glad someone has highlighted this issue. It's a great Gshock, I've used mine nearly every day since 2015. The alarms on solar Gshocks are very poor - considering its a rugged watch for use in environments that demand standout audio alarm & countdown features - this lets the side down. It defeats the purpose of a watch like this to have to use your phone, because one of the main features is sub par. Jump up the price scale & you find abysmal weak alarms on watches like GPW1000 Gravitymaster and even MTG doesn't perform much better. I use the vibration GD350 & it's very good - but the faint high pitched beeper is old news and its unfortunate that the cheaper 168 you feature, has the superior alarm. Thanks again for featuring this issue - the 5610 is a superb watch, like you rightly say the countdown is a good visual reference - the alarm beeper is something I just try and forget about, when I admire this classic square.

It is all thanks to the chap who mentioned it in a comment about the alarm on the G-Shock GW-M5610U being inaudible. It did come as a shock to me as well, especially when I had compared it to the to the much cheaper Casio A-168W. Like what you had mentioned, it does defeat the purpose of having an alarm and audible countdown timer and hopefully Casio may improve on this in the future with newer offerings, especially as you had mentioned ones that cost a lot more money than the M5610U featured in this video. The GW-M5610u is the only Casio I have which usually wakes me up but not my lady, who can get very grumpy in early morning hours.

I never counted on the alarms because I couldn't hear them except in a quiet room at home, it would be no use walking in town. In this case for this watch, I can't even hear it in a quiet room! But I do love the multi-band six and the solar recharging of the battery. Since I didn't think the alarms we're going to be usable it's not a deal breaker for me. For audible alarms and a countdown timer, I go to my smartphone. That's just a side note, I can't hear any sound from the 5610 G-Shock watch that I have or the one in the video.

I thought mine was broken and was going to send it back. I saw this video, and then held it up to my ear when the alarm went off. Turns out it is just super faint. Thanks for the video.

And the real kicker is that decibels are a logarithmic scale. A 10 decibel difference is perceived to be twice as loud to the ear and technically a 3 decibel difference is twice as powerful. The basic Casio models are pretty good if you need hourly chime/alarm functions.

In fact it is very simple, the 5610u is "only" a perpetual dual time watch (the only square to my knowledge that shows 2 times together on a single screen without switching back to the home screen). You need to choose, you cannot have everything. You prefer World time (with swap function) to a usable countdown and a usable EL backlight -> 5610u or 5000u (Only WT and ST is usable, countdown and alarm are not) If countdown and EL (flashing, and ON until you press it) is more important -> DW 5600 (no WT, but does the rest better) simple.

I prefer the volume and tone of the g-shock. Subtle, delicate, delicious. The other Casio sounds grotesque, saturated, unpleasant, causing me anxiety.

I cannot hear the alarm, work the tiny buttons, and can barely read the small screen - apart from that, it is an absolutely fantastic watch...........

Is this still the best G-Shock to get? I plan on getting this to align all my other watches' to this since it would literally be the most accurate.

Tony, thanks for getting around to the alarm volume issue. As you said it's so quiet and high pitched so why did Casio bother, other than to have a list of facilities that would at least match the non G-shock models. I am currently wearing a Casio W-800H which I trimmed some plastic at the lugs and fitted a nato strap. It's a great watch which has useful audible alarm functions. 🙂

It's a great watch - in fact, almost the perfect digital, but the alarm volume lets it down IMO. It's even less audible when it's on wrist. It's too bad that it doesn't have the backlight flash option that's present on some other Casio modules. Great video.

G-Shock g5600ue-1dr alarm is useless just bought and for a week I tried to hear alarm gave up and switched off key , alarm and snooze it's useless, it's a tough solar other than sound I love this watch

I thought it was just me going a bit deaf! Got this watch a few days ago and I'm going to have to return it, its just too quiet, the hour signals are really poor and I sort of rely on those

The thickness of the back causes the alarm on the 5610U to be quiet. As soon as I can find a thinner back that actually fits the 5610U I am going to test my theory out.

That is the downside to all the added protection of G-Shocks. I have 2 resin squares and one stainless steel one. But non of them have a loud enough alarm sound. Especially If I compare with with my Casio A1000.

Good to know that other people are complaining about this. When I reviewed the small G-Shock GMD-S5600 (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-m45mieKZQLY.htmlsi=cwgVL8ZoF8VBhyPJ), it had the same problem. I actually use/need an alarm, and it made an otherwise great watch unusable outside a perfectly silent environment.

I was looking forward to mine when I ordered it. But the alarm being so quiet was a deal breaker. If I have to fall back on my f-91w, what’s the point? I had to return it for a refund.
