A beautiful insightful song by @thecastellows the 'blue-jeaned baby' is a metaphor for the USA of course. The challenges 'she' has in the song include Rocky Mountain high (i.e., drug use/abuse?), the need to lock the door (i.e., crime?), not being outspoken any more (i.e., national pride?), no being dreamed of any more (i.e., the "America dream"?) and the big-city chip on her shoulder (the 'chip' could represent a basket of problems in cities from homelessness/affordability, racial divides, crime? others?).
"Miss" is a verb in this song. Clever.
What is missed? I reckon family, community and faith, i.e., being on the front porch, walking in your home town after a football game, and John 3:16. In the second verse and the chorus these are the things they "see", or I imagine want to strive for, or return to. It is a profound song with a subtle delivery IMHO.
Powell introduces this song as one of their favourites - mine too :) She suggests it is a song that resonates with people/ they can relate to - yes, it does / yes, we do. Up in Canada we have the same challenges - we hear you gals !!!
Ellie makes a comment at the end that the song's message really gets her in the chorus. That makes sense - at it's heart it is a poignant song.
Want to strum and sing along at home? I loaded the chords and lyrics here: tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/tab/... (some words are guessed)... also here:
